Honestly I love that they made Mianmian and Jin Zixuan genuine friends in CQL. She can say what she wants about and to him and she regularly does so. There is just at least one person who Jin Zixuan allows to make fun of him for being arrogant, rich and rizzless and it genuinely makes him a more enjoyable character. It gives him more introspection and makes him from a character who is just mean, arrogant and rich to someone who cannot communicate his feelings properly to safe his life. Also. At least one (1) woman wants to be his friend and that is always a good look on a guy tbh

ok so like, we all already know how cursed it is that jin ling has so many uncles. he has more uncles than most people have parents. he has so many uncles they could practically start their own soccerr team. he probably lives his life in fear every day that someone new will come up to him and tell him he's his uncle.
well now it's got me thinking, among all his peers, jin ling is probably considered the least dateable person ever (aside from all the other reasons) because having six uncles...six of the most fearsome overbearing powerful uncles...six uncles who will go to extreme lengths to keep jin ling safe by all means possible...means it's got to be common knowledge that if you date jin ling, you are almost surely facing down the barrel of six shovel talks
just picture the classic "if you hurt her, I'll hurt you" but coming from the most unhinged, overprotective, maladjusted cultivators known to man. here's how I think it would go:
the first one is jiang cheng. how could it not be? he hardly lets jin ling out of his sight. he was probably watching ten feet back, jaw clenched and hand on his sword, when the person first asked jin ling out. and he's going to bring it. all the power of the infamous sandu shengshou, directed at a trembling teenager. using tactics formerly reserved for demonic cultivators who might be connected to wei wuxian. the person is honestly lucky if zidian doesn't make an appearance. because jiang cheng is going to give it his ALL. this is what he's been training for. he's harder on jin ling's partner than he is on yaoguai. (although if the partner is especially shrewd, they might notice that he's 99% bluster)
then we have lan xichen. lan xichen has one of the most traditional takes on the shovel talk, and it's not very threatening. at some kind of gathering he might approach and ask to speak with the partner, far enough to not be overheard but still staying within jin ling's eyeshot. lan xichen would speak calmly, telling jin ling's partner how much his nephew means to him and giving them pointers on what it means to be a good partner. lan xichen would make no overt threats, but he would be direct in stating that he hopes the two will have a loving relationship, and if that is expected to change, he will be seeking updates and will intervene if necessary. after all the fury from jiang cheng, it's a welcome relief. but it's only a brief respite before the other uncles come crashing in and ruining the relative peace.
with jin guangyao, you'd get just what you'd expect. probably a dinner invitation to a fancy restaurant. a power imbalance, carefully crafted so the partner simultaneously feels out of depth, uncomfortable, and yet is in gratitude to the wealthy and benevolent lianfang-zun. the meal is spent chatting, with pleasant smiles and thoughtful, kind words. some remarks would slice a little too deep, nothing overt, nothing traceable as a threat. but jin ling's partner would leave the dinner shaken, mind fixated on how deftly jin guangyao twirled the knife when cutting his food, and how often he alluded to the network of people prepared to protect jin ling from "outside trouble". when jin guangyao drops the person off at the end of the night, he smiles and tells jin ling's partner "welcome to the family" and the words have never sounded so chilling
wei wuxian is a bit of a mystery. with his reputation, he's almost certainly the most feared, the uncle who jin ling's peers whisper most about never wanting to face. who would ever imagine that they could be confronted by the yiling laozu himself, one on one, and live to tell the tale? who would even dare get close to the man's family, after they've heard what he's willing to do to the partners of his siblings? but wei wuxian, above all, is here for some chaos. don't get him wrong - it's not like he's letting them off the hook. he's going to give this poor kid a severe talking to, probably rile them up a little, messing with them with a mixture of threats and lecturing, until they're shaking in their boots. and only then, once he's deemed they're no threat, will the jovial attitude take over. wei wuxian will smile conspiratorially, and suddenly jin ling's partner will find themselves beseiged with embarrassing stories from jin ling's childhood, plus some random life lessons. they'll come away from the interaction confused, unsure what just happened, but with plenty of material for teasing jin ling. (ironically, to jin ling, this may in fact be the scariest potential outcome of all the shovel talks)
now, with most of the other uncles taking on the brunt of the responsibility, lan zhan doesn't think his own intervention into jin ling's relationship is necessary. he's always been more fond of actions than words, and he doesn't have any long speech to give. probably, wei wuxian cajoles him into it, exclaiming "come on lan-er-ge! [partner] needs to hear from the great hanguang-jun! who else would they respect enough to listen to in this family?" so lan zhan reluctantly agrees and fulfills what he sees as his duty to be a good husband (and uncle). truly, he's going through the motions. he says very little, something straight and to the point like lan xichen but without any of his brother's smiling or gentle words. and yet - yet- unintentionally, this scares the wits out of jin ling's partner. wei wuxian was accidentally kind of right. just being at the mercy of hanguang-jun, scolded by him up close, with his solemn expression and intense silver eyes, jin ling's partner is left feeling like they've narrowly evaded certain death
and finally, considering all of that mess going on, nie huaisang is 100% the least feared uncle. sure, he wants jin ling to be in a good relationship with a partner who will treat him right, but what does that have to do with HIM? he doesn't want to cause any trouble! and he's just not very good at this kind of thing! if he was coerced into doing a shovel talk - and let's face it, he'd have to be - he'd be nervously chuckling and scratching his head like "well, I really don't know what to say," and for once, jin ling's partner would feel like maybe there was someone in jin ling's family who wasn't out to get them? an uncle who was funny and lazy and maybe a bit incompetent at trying to act threatening? but...what they wouldn't know, and would never find out about, were the shrewd eyes watching their every move from afar, keeping track of their behavior when they thought they were alone, and the anonymous notes detailing their potential transgressions against jin ling, passed along to whichever uncle would be likely to react most murderously...and tragically, that, out of everything, would make nie huaisang's shovel talk the most likely to result in a breakup
Theyāre probably laughing because Xiao Zhan is walking upright behind him, while Yibo is carrying the infamous false legs. I mean, who wouldnāt be getting the giggles? What I love, though, is they couldnāt stop finding this funny long enough to get a proper shot. š¤
Actors having fun on set is one of my favorite things to witness. Especially on grueling difficult projects. And The Untamed was basically produced on thoughts, prayers and soda crackers, during a sweltering, oppressively hot summer. Yet, the group a people brought together seemed to vibe instantaneously.
They all fell in love and oftentimes, that translates to screen, regardless of talent or content. The sincerity resonates with the audience. Itās what cult classics are made of š
Au where Wei Wuxian does a blood sacrifice thing as he's dying, so no one he loves can be injured by another person. If someone tries, they are injured instead.
Lan Zhan gets whipped three times before the whole thing is called off. He has to carve the new rules condemning his love instead. His attempts at branding himself fail so he paints the mark on himself every day until he figures out how to make it permanent
Wen Ning can't be controlled, and so he goes to Cloud Recesses to watch over A-Yuan.
A-Yuan excels in long-range combat and music cultivation since it's difficult for others to properly spar with him.
Jin Ling becomes even more cocky. After all, what's going to happen? Is someone going to hurt themselves trying to hit him?
Jiang Cheng has several crying sessions over this because how can Wei Wuxian care for him after everything and how dare he do this
The only time someone has successfully hurt these people is when Jiang Cheng and Lan Zhan get tired of the other man's shit during a discussion conference and try to punch each other in the face. The result is that they are both thrown into the air, with Jiang Cheng cutting his head open on a table and Lan Zhan spraining his ankle by landing wrong
I find it interesting how it's only after seeing Jin Guangyao again at the gates of Cloud Recesses that Lan Xichen really starts to believe Lan Wangji and Wei WuXian.
I feel like it's how kind and polite and understanding and benevolent he is.
Any reasonable person would have gotten upset in some way, protested their innocence or tried to convince him.
Jin Guangyao didn't.
No tears, no anger, not even a slight upset at being denied entry, just the exact same peaceful smile and tone as ever, reasonable to the point it's unreasonable.
He's played benevolent sect leader too long and too automatically. To the point it's become unnatural and now Lan Xichen is in a situation to see the act of it all.
