Shit. Shit. Shit. That cocky smile, the way his eyes were scanning her and the song. He knew something. He knew. He knew her secret. On her first mission she had already been caught. What on earth was she going to do with him? Lola tried her best to not let it show but it didnāt stop her eyes from being an open book as they widened in surprise from his question. He did know but Lola wouldnāt lie down easilyĀ and let him know fully it was her. As she saw him get closer, she licked her lips slowly before replying, boredĀ āIām not Irish, Iām English.āĀ
Nathan nodded at her response and looked down at his book.Ā āRobin Hood was English wasnāt he? Some lord who went rogue or something. Iāve not read the book but I am familiar with the film. Whatās your take on it? Is he really a good guy or just trying to make himself feel powerful?āĀ If this was for any cause it was to make sure she didnāt touch his stuff again or come near his house. Heād like to pretend it was all because he was selfish and didnāt want her to touch his possessions but also there was a part of him that knew if she was caught her dad wouldnāt hesitate to take action.Ā
theawkwardevansĀ·:
She watched him as he gently put her down on the bench, he was incredibly sweet about it and in moments like this, she got to see the shy side of him which made her even happier. As he spoke to the sand, Lola couldnāt help but scan his face before opening her folder quickly when he began to glance back up.Ā āItās very simple, we contact the person and arrange something and you go out with them and if it doesnāt work, then thatās okay but if it does, success. I normally do threeā¦ā He doesnāt want a girlfriend, remember!Ā āoutings before I step out.āĀ āThatās sweet. My high school sweetheart-ā Wow, was she really that old? So old that she was going through her ownĀ āwhen I was youngerā story? She stopped there, the story wasnāt that interesting and she wasnāt old.
Nathan nodded at her explanation of it and tried to stay opened to the concept of going out to meet girls he barely knew or didnāt know at all. He was nervous but this was her job and that meant she would be spending more time with him. He appreciated her company it was like having a real friend even if he was paying her.Ā He leant forward when she paused and tilted his head.Ā āYouāre high school sweetheart what?ā Nathan was genuinely interested to learn more about her in anyway. She already knew so much about him.Ā

Lola wasnāt taking her eyes of Nathan for a second, hearing Frank trying to keep his lunch in his stomach and not on the vanās floor. With her eyebrow raising in defiance, she watched him, her face turned quick to horrified, as he took the spit and swallowed it. She looked a second longer before she too was hunched over and trying not to be sick. That was so⦠gross!
She could hear the female acting like nothing had happened as Frank continued to not puke but Lola couldnāt care less to laugh at the womanās innocence. She wanted off this stupid van and her body suddenly gained the energy she needed.
She screamed again, a loud wrenching scream exploded from her to gain all three of theirs attention as she thrashed about. āI want off! I want off! I want off! Just let me off! I donāt mean a n y t h i n g to you three! LET ME GO!ā It was the equailvent of a two year oldās tantrum if it wasnāt so emotional and desperate for the situational but Lola refused to go out without a fight.
Nathan rose his brows at her fight and clapped happily as she thrashed around.Ā āWow youāre a crazy little thing. Youāve got some fight in you Iāll give you that but we canāt let you go quite yet considering weāre being tailed by police and honestly I think youāre more useful than you think you are.ā He was just playing with her. In a week or two heād let her go and allow her to go spread his shenanigans around. If there was one thing that could humanise him itās that hurting someone innocent was never his goal. For a great cause some may have to fall but for now he was dealing with the small fry of the city and none of those meant he had to harm innocents only mess with them so he could strike fear into those around him but that wouldnāt work if they werenāt afraid of him.Ā Alaska watched Nathan carefully and moved her attention to Lola knowing full well that this wasnāt a situation either her or Frank were comfortable in but Nathanās word to them was law. They chose to follow him so with one last look to Frank she began to doodle in her notebook to distract from her screaming.Ā

Lola raised an eyebrow that Alaska had questioned her but she quickly shrugged it off. It was a fair assumption to make, she did look like trouble. Pointing at one of the more reluctant cheerleaders, she stood back a little allowing room for Alaska to take the lighter off her. āItās in her bra. She flicked it out earlier.ā Lola stated unemotionally, as the bus around her began to scream out for mercy, for justice and for her to stop. So many demands. Lola tried to keep herself from shaking but it was hard when there Ā was so much noise around her. So much noise, she hated it. She just wanted it to stop. Her hand resting on one of the chairs, her nails gripped into the fabric, as she tried to stop letting all the screams get to and into her head. That was before it was all over. A shot rang out, silencing everyone as Lola checked over herself. She hadnāt been shot but she felt the adeline rush over her. Peace and quiet had begun, the only thing to be heard was her footsteps as she stepped around Alaska and walked towards her saviour, raising her hands in an almost silent begging request to be free. She mumbled a āthank youā softly.
Nathan looked down at the blonde and gestured for her to get off of the bus. He watched as she retreated before turning his attention back to the bus. Alaska had already fished the lighter from the cheerleader and skipped over to Nathan happily. āYouāll all be good and stay quiet now okay? Just like you shouldāve stayed quiet when you fucked me over all of those years ago. You realise itās your fault I am here right? You reap what you sow.ā Alaska hopped off of the bus and Nathan followed behind her while locking the doors shut. He had the full ability to blow the bus up and they could all watch. With a small huff he looked over to the blonde while flicking the lighter on and off. āWhat do you think I should do? Blow them all to bits or let them go? Have they learnt their lesson? I wonder.āĀ

It wasnāt hard to find Nathan Prescott, as soon as she mentioned the name to classmates, they were already pointing her in the right direction. Some out of fear and some wanting to see how this played out. Nathan Prescott from what she had gathered with everyoneās reactions was not some dweeb.Ā She found him sat by a computer in the library and she knew it was him as he was the only one in there. She composed herself a little, the mental paragraph she had formed in her head ready to be said at any moment, but as she patted his shoulder gently, she felt herself get suddenly very nervous. I mean, what could she really say? Change the card? Thank you for thinking my work was worth photographing but that isnāt good enough? She was now regretting even bothering the boy until he grumpily turned around. He was cute, that was her first thought, and a bit pissed off was her second but she was used to that but then her eyes focused on his singular hurt eye. His slightly purple eye. Her paragraph forgotten, she raised her arm to point, saying franklyĀ āWhat the fuck happened to you?ā
Nathan rose his brow before settling back in his seat to look up at her.Ā āI walked into a pole.ā He couldnāt be bothered to deal with her or anyone at this point. This was just another shitty day and heād get through it like all of the others. He was the rich kid everyone hated but everyone wanted to be friends with just so they could have access to his things. Part of him sometimes didnāt care and gave people what they wanted if it meant he had company but today he didnāt want to be around anybody.Ā Though he was starting to get the feeling that Lola was the type of person to do what she wanted. Heād heard about her of course and her friends. They were troublemakers but still okay enough to stay in school. He however was probably not supposed to be in school but his dad made sure he was stuck here.Ā

She couldnāt help but think his smile was a mask, his eyes showing the real emotion behind his intention but they looked so sad and she barely, well at all, knew him. Or did she? She didnāt it wise to reach out and say outrightlyĀ ādo i know you? i have amnesia.ā but it kept playing at her mind. She decided to keep playing the local character. āYeah, tell me about it.ā He wasnāt wrong, from what she remembered it was hard to find a good coffee shop, especially for her. There was no space in her little book to sayĀ āi rate this coffee shop the bestā when there was so many people after her and she only had descriptions to go off. She had more important things in life to think about than what coffee shop she should go to but in this world of abnormal, she wanted a bit of normal to breathe into. The man spoke again, distracting her from her thoughts.Ā āErr- I, um⦠Iām terrible at directions or even remotely being a tour guide. If anything, youād be showing me the city.ā Shit. How could she have so easily fallen into a trap? Her anxiety rising at the situation and now she didnāt know whether to lie or flee, this man either knew her and was calling her bluff or was just a simple cute guy who saw a blonde girl in a coffee shop and thought to speak to her.Ā
Nathan smiled as she spoke and was patient in her pauses. With a nod he took a sip of his coffee before looking outside.Ā āTo be honest itās pretty stressful out there so it makes getting around difficult but was worth an ask. If you know anyone who can recommend more places to me let me know Iāll probably be here again.āĀ It was always weird for him to be in close proximity to her. His job was to stay away but he found it difficult. It was hard to know if she was truly doing okay if he wasnāt close to her and this job got pretty lonely since his world had revolved around her safety for the past few months.Ā āSo, whatās your name? If you donāt mind me asking of course.ā He looked up at her with a smile trying to do his best to not make too much eye contact with her incase it creeped her out. Sometimes it felt like he knew her so well but when he was this close she really did feel like a stranger.Ā

Lola heard the humming before she remotely even considered gazing at him. The line he was singing was playing in her own mind too, along with the movie clip of the whole town in shackles and starving in the cold, dark dungeon. Just like she would be if she looked at him because that is all it would take; one look and he would know for sure and it would all be over. But how could she not? She kept her cold glare as she slowly moved her head to face his, raising a sharp eyebrow in a silent question of what he wanted.Ā
Nathan waited for a response but like a champ she wasnāt rising to the bait. He was almost about to stop when he saw her head beginning to turn. When she met his gaze his humming stopped and he leant forward. Honestly he wouldnāt have cared about any of it but it was the fact sheād come into his room. That was the only space he deemed safe and the fact she nearly stole his camera was a motive.Ā āWhereās your green hat and tights?āĀ
theawkwardevans:
Lola was still smiling at him, her feet waddling as quick as she could beside him despite her sinking with every step, until she saw where he was looking, her smile turning into shyness before seeing his smirk.Ā āI didnāt know we were going- HEY!ā Her yell of exclamation was short lived as Nathan calmly spoke to her, silencing her as she put her arms around him. He was stronger than she thought, her eyes going wide scanning over his frame which managed to carry her all the way to a bench. Her ears not catching a single word as her mind internal awwed at the gesture. He was a sweet kid really, despite what he wanted everyone to say. She forgot about the boys who had recently bothered him as she was placed onto the bench, a gentleĀ āThank youā from her lips in reply.Ā āSo⦠are we ready?ā
Nathan sat down and he almost forgot what this meeting was about. Suddenly he began to feel a little sheepish but knew he was paying for her services so it was only fair.Ā āYeah I am ready. How does this whole matchmaking thing work?ā Heād have to try and act like he was interested in this when all he really wanted was a friend. God he felt so pathetic but it had come to this and he needed to accept that.Ā āCause I have never done shit like this before. Your kind of services are new in Arcadia. Most of us just marry high school sweethearts and all that crap.āĀ
