After many years I am finally returning to complete Book 3 of Dragonfable, and my biggest motivation is my boundless, unconditional, undying love for this man. I love him. I love him.

Thinking a bit about how AQW has been adressing Zhoom's bounty hunting past and how his actions are something that he still has to deal with, and it's gotten me thinking about Sha'Rae and her actions in Dying Light.
More specifically, what if she had a different motivation to betray us than simply being threatened by Sepulchure.
Imagine that you're a rebel, fighting to overthrow the tyranical lich that rules you land. Imagine that this Lich was served by a skilled and merciless bounty hunter, that many of your friends and even your father had been pursued by him. Imagine that you worked in the inn that this bounty hunter frequented, always careful that he never caught onto you.
Imagine that one day a hero arrived to your home, that with their help you were able to topple the tyrant and free your home. then imagine seeing that hero call the bounty hunter, your boogey man, a trusted friend and count him among the heroes that helped free you. This bounty hunter now entrusted with safeguarding the source of the tyrant's power
Imagine the betrayal that you would feel. He might try to apologise but the pain remains.
Then imagine that someone arrived, claiming to understand that feeling of betrayal. They offer you a salve to your pain, a gift of the power to avenge your fallen comrades and all he asks for in exchange is the Orb of Light.
This works so well because Sepulchure is the guy with the credentials to offer such a deal
As Valen he fought to liberate Greenguard from another tyrant. Then as Sepulchure he finished off Slugwrath for good
And he was always a character defined by deals and promises
