Coming into a fandom late
Coming into a fandom early and watching it become an angry clusterfuck
Being in a dormant fandom that suddenly comes alive again after a new book/movie
Don’t forget about those who come in the midst of a fandom war.
Accuracy at its best
Being in a fandom and not even knowing there’s a war going on…
all of this shit…lol
When You’re Not In The Fandom But You’re Nosy AF
When you get into a fandom only to discover it’s dead
This gets better every time I see it.
@fuboos-mess
Being in a dead fandom…
Or being in such a tiny fandom that it feels like youre the only one
The accuracy hurts.
Being in a fandom that had a shit ending.
When you’ve been fangirling long enough, you’ve experienced all of the above.
Being in a fandom meant for kids.
This just gets better..
@mi-kleos
When you realize that joining the fandom has ruined you
Fandom hell in general
Yes.
This^^^ just… ALL OF THIS.
Being in so many fandoms that you don’t even know what’s going on
THIS IS THE SKULDUGGERY FUCKING PLEASANT FANDOM IN ONE POST!!
Trying to recruit people to your fandom
Annnnnnndddd it’s back
Being in a fandom which has so many antis
I’ve probably reblogged this before, but that was before these great additions.
Being in a fandom that actually works together
ah, oldie but a goodie
Yeah I’ve felt a bunch of these xD
The one I finally lose my shit over AO3 tags
Like generally this doesn't grind my gears as hard. But dudes! If Dragon Queen isn't the end game then don't tag it. What is this thing, where it's used to prop up other ships? Like it's a tiny little thing to begin with .
I'm just kinda done with opening a fic going 'Yay DragonQueen' and then the first note in it is 'This is an OQ story or SQ'
WWWWHHHHHYYYYY.
Someone that doesn’t bow to Sharon’s killer…
Thank god someone finally said it
Sharon: Rusty, your gun is always the last resort.
Rusty: Promise
Shoots Stroh-five times (shoots to kill)
Me and probably Sharon:
I also can't get the WWSRD podcast out of my head. Especially since Mary was SO against the alternate, 'Sharon takes a bullet in some sort of shoot out while protecting Rusty from Stroh' that fandom was saying they would have much preferred (then oh say, Idk dying at your desk).
So...
I just don't get it guys? Like help me out here. It's not more rational or plausible for Sharon the police officer to kill someone in the line of duty while maybe also taking a bullet in the process, then say a 20 year old kid, who did everything his mother, the aforementioned police office, told him not to?
Is this show off its chops? There is no fucking way Sharon Raydor would be proud! Have they met her? Or like in the last 3 episodes completely forgotten about her and everything she preached for 6 years?
I mean what the actual fuck?
Oh Janet. She is undoubtedly my fav ❤️
Going through the stages
The previous times I have gone through the stages of grief, I experienced a linear grieving process. I went through one stage and moved to the next, and then the next. There were stages I didn’t go through at all (depending on the person I had to say goodbye to).
With Sharon Raydor, I am finding myself going through a different process, which in a way reminds me a little of the process I went through when my cousin Sharon was dying of cancer (and later passed away).
My first stage was bargaining, which is often my first stage of grief. To think that there was something I or anyone else could do to change the outcome. Once I realized it was beyond my control I was able to move on to the next stage.
My second stage was anger. Or more accurately, rage. I was angry at Duff for writing this death, I was angry at myself for getting attached to this character, I was angry at Ron Moore for killing Laura Roslin and creating the idea Duff eventually copied.
I don’t know when exactly I moved on to the next level, but I found myself spending 2 days in complete and utter depression. I’m glad I didn’t spend too much time in that stage, because it really drained my energy. Granted, for me, Mary’s podcast made everything worse. I’m glad that she did it, but I was hoping to hear something different and she clearly feels differently about her now. And also she was not taking into account the fact that the fans were not involved in the creative process and therefore could not know what it felt like to be Sharon Raydor at the moment of her death. It felt like in a way, she was unable to understand our POV, which to me made it worse. There’s nothing worse than being upset and having someone you look up to not being very supportive of your feelings.
And after I took in what she said and did what she requested, which was to look at the plot with an open mind, I was able to move on, and I reached the stage of bargaining once again. My bargaining this time was different. I bargained with myself, mostly, about the possibility to let myself believe that the show ended at the wedding. I have never gone through the death of my favorite character with the rest of the fandom before. Some times I’ve even known a character was going to die when I started watching a show, so it was not as bad for me as it is this time. And for that reason I’ve never found myself in a situation where I felt the need to abandon canon and decide when the show is ending for me. This happened for a couple of reasons. The first reason is that as a fanfic writer, canon is very important to me. I relay on it to accurately represent the characters in my stories and to make them seem realistic. The other reason this decision was hard for me is that there were parts that I liked in the episode and didn’t want to let go of. Eventually, I resolved my problem by asking myself which point in the plot I am willing to accept as the last thing that happened. And I am still undecided on that but somehow I started moving to the next stage which is denial. I am avoiding everything that happened after Sharon hugged Rusty in her office. I can’t stand watching ahead of that part, and by refusing to watch that I am essentially choosing to believe it never happened.
Which brings me back to anger, because it seems to randomly flare up every time I read an angry post or tweet about it on social media.
Anger is a stage that seems to be waiting in the background while I go through the other stages and it lead me to wonder why. Why did Duff have to write what he wrote? I’ve looked for the rationale behind his choice because even if I didn’t understand it, I needed to open my mind up to the option of listening to it. And luckily last night Duff replied to a fan on his FB page and explained his choice. I don’t agree with his reasoning, and I certainly don’t agree that he chose to invalidate the fan’s interpretation, but for me the explanation was good enough to be able to let go of my anger , because what I really needed was a reason, doesn’t matter which one. I am sure the anger will return, and I hope that at some point I’m going to reach acceptance, but even if I don’t ever accept that Sharon Raydor was killed off and the way and timing that it was done, I accept that I am going through a grieving process I may not ever complete and that’s okay with me.
I don’t know if I’m just rambling or if this actually means anything to anyone, but I am posting this in hopes that my analysis of my experience will be helpful to someone in the fandom.
This omfg. I don't know if I am dealing, like I'm still so angry and I'm probably in denial a bit too. It's sneaks up randomly during the day out of nowhere, and I'll be like oh yeah, he fucking killed her.
I also listened to the podcast hoping it was going to clear stuff up, and as much as I love Mary, you are totally right that we did not get to experience this through a creative standpoint and be there from the beginning of the concept all the way up to filming to editing it etc. So we were so caught off guard especially with all the things that were said before the season started because some fan called it, that he was going to kill her off and that started bulldozing through the fandom and making noise. So things were said to put the fandom at ease, which ended up being flat out lies.
The thing that kinda really stood out in the podcast with Mary, was how she mentioned how all the fans have being saying that they wished she took a bullet saving rusty from stroh or something similar and she was just like flat out no, I'm sick of violence and just no. But I'm sorry, because 1. This is a cop show 2. When have any of the squad fired their weapons this season or been in any violent situations? (Cammi did break that one guys nose I guess). So I'm kinda just like, well what exactly are you referring to Mary? Outside influence? Because of the world we live in these days? I just don't get it. You would rather see Sharon Radyor die at her desk, instead of defending this kid she's poured her heart and soul into, that has always been her number one concern, that she has preached through the entire series that she wants him happy and safe! I get that the storyline itself may have been cliche or corny. But you were bringing Stroh back anyway so why fucking not? It fits better, it goes along better with the Sharon that we know. That we love, because I'm sorry but it did look like the Sharon that we saw in that episode was giving up, and I know a lot of the fans interpreted that way.
Sharon Raydor did not deserve to die at her desk, during some run of the mill case. It was entirely too conflicting with the legacy she has built over six + years.
To the Duff why did he kill her response. Well I fucking called that. To me it felt very spiteful and bratty. Essentially major crimes got cancelled, so it was a big fuck you to the network. You cancelled my show but I'm the creator so I can still fuck with it before it ends. Oh I mean, end it on his terms. It is rather sad now, because those fans, the ones that were campaigning for you all season to get major crimes saved, the loyal ones that love this character? This was just like kicking them while they were down. They were loyal to you, gave you fantastic ratings, stuck around through all the changes and THIS is how you repay that, this is how you say thank you?
So I'm moving back into anger again. Lol
But my final point is, the fans deserved better, Sharon deserved better.
Will I be watching the last four episodes? I don't think I can at the moment, everything is still very raw. I know Mary talked about it being a disservice to not watch it, because it's not the rest of the cast and crews faults, and I get that. I understand it. I respect it. I have enjoyed watching all these actors for many years now. But. Let's be very clear here. I originally started watching The Closer for Mary McDonnell. I watched her episodes only through season 5, 6, 7 (?). And I just fell in love with her Darthness right off the bat. So I just... I don't think I have much interest in watching these guys continue the adventure without her, ya know?
Mary discusses the events of episode 609, and her feelings about the episode, the choices made, and addresses the reaction to the episode and the events.
Oh Mary you precious unicorn queen, I love you, I truly do. But no, I just can't agree on some of this stuff. Sharon's demise was senseless and pointless and served no purpose to any progress in this show. It was never going to be satisfactory to the fans and for the shows creator to ever think that is just delusional. Just because the show was cancelled doesn't mean you have to kill off your main character and claim it's 'going out on your own terms'
tbh this feels like the work of a fanboy whose run off to write fanfiction because his feelings were hurt and now wants to burn everything down to get even.
farewell, sharon raydor
It hurts because she mattered.
This.
