shipping a consensual, safe & sane pairing all the while i'm shaking my head in disapproval so the audience knows i still love wildly toxic abusive fictional dynamics
We back.
Actually I DO think twelve year olds should get hrt. That’s the normal age to start puberty, so why does it have to be different for trans kids?
If you think trans kids don’t deserve the right to a timely and correct puberty – the same way cis kids already get – you are transphobic.
if trans kids are too young to start puberty so are cis kids
I’ve seen a post talking about Deep Space Nine being pre-9/11 show and I’ve never felt that more than Kira talking to Tom Riker and literally going “dude you’re so bad at being a terrorist, you don’t have that dog in you, if I was in your shoes right now I would’ve been murdering everyone I could because I was a an effective terrorist and that’s what an effective terrorist would do”, and it’s not presented as Kira being evil or unhinged, she’s just making a (correct!) observation about the situation.
Sex scene as character study is so good. What is your relationship to your body? What is your relationship to your partner? What lessons have you absorbed from the culture about yourself as a sexual being? How much do you have to trust someone before being comfortable with intimacy? What fears and insecurities come to the fore for you when you take your clothes off? It's so good.
are you aware your mutual is sexualizing body horror?
are the two brothers from supernatural really gay for each other or is that a fan thing
are you really asking me if a network television show from the mid-aughts had canonical gay incest in it

I’ve seen you people thirst after men I wouldn’t even feed to my creature
i really liked this essay on why literary fiction is sounding so much Like That these days, especially work by asian american authors:
This entire process selects for homework-doers, personal entrepreneurs, and individualistic bureaucrats. It's why, like I said, the oracular outsiders, the Pauls of the world, who can't conform to society's expectations to check boxes and become legible to the powers that be, aren't in these programs and aren't getting the opportunities that are downstream of them. It's why you end up with tons of fiction about "my white boyfriend" and "everyone online is mad at me" or "anxious strivers in NYC" or "my annoying polycule." These are the obstacles this class encounters. You can't spend time, like Cormac McCarthy did, living in an unheated cabin in the Smokies, or embedding with the Mujahideen like William T. Vollman, or working as a psychotherapist like Olga Tokarczuk. You must move from strength to strength, always turning in your homework on time, and certainly never suffering a psychotic break.
-- Trip, Estragon News, The Oracular Outsiders and the Homework Doers
i quite liked the conclusion to the piece:
Maybe it's because that fiction is being written for the people already bought in. Art that is made for the purpose of institutional legibility and approval is dead on arrival. Writing must stand on the outside, viewing the world at a tilt. Our world is being eaten by word machines that can imitate us perfectly. Unless American letters find the courage to welcome back in the oracular, it will disappear, replaced by machine that can conform to the demands of institutional legibility—really, the demands of capital—better than any human ever could.
Also sometimes the purpose of a sex scene is to be titillating and that's, like, fine. You wouldn't go out there and argue that movies shouldn't have jokes unless they "serve a narrative purpose" because you understand that generally the purpose of a joke is to make the audience laugh and perhaps release some tension. Being horny is a normal human emotion like being amused or being scared and sometimes media is trying to evoke that particular emotion; the artist doesn't owe you a 30-page double-spaced justification for trying to make you feel something through their art. Your separation of horniness and sex from other emotions and experiences is sex negative and deeply ingrained in cultural conservatism.
every medical drama from the usa has one character who's like "i served two tours in iraq" and everyone starts falling over themselves to be like "ohhh you're so brave thank you for patching up boo boo's on the people bombing babies you're soooo brave and big and strong" and it's gross
