TEAM BLACKS HOUSE OF THE DRAGON | SEASON 2
HOUSE OF THE DRAGON (2022–) “Driftmark” written by Ryan Condal & Kevin Lau
They are both so beautiful and they are truly perfect for each other
235 FAVORITE SHIPS OF ALL TIME (ranked by my followers) 72. sara lance and ava sharpe - legends of tomorrow
My new favorite excuse for not jumping on new trends or bandwagons is 'I'm 30.' No more explanation needed because anyone under 30 just thinks I'm old and everyone over 30 understands implicitly
Huff
The core of Sokkas character is that he is a 16-year-old boy who grew up trying to be a man because that is what his tribe needed after his father left for war. In that attempt, as someone immature and unguided, he had sexist attitudes, only to later mature and become a real man.
His character development is very special because it teaches little boys the true meaning of being a man. The fact that they remove his sexism in the live action speaks to the fact that they did not understand his character
With no flaws there can't be any grow
The thing about Katara is that she was angry.
She was angry that the Fire Nation killed her mother.
She was angry that her father left them.
She was angry that she was the only Waterbender left in the south pole.
She was angry that the only person her age was her brother, who constantly disregarded her interests and her role in the tribe.
She was angry that what little waterbending she knew, had to be self-taught and how she struggled with that.
she was angry that a twelve year old instantly picked up what had taken her a long time to learn.
she was also angry that her tribe wanted to kick that twelve year old into the wilderness over a mistake.
she was angry over the earth-benders the fire nation had captured and put into a metal box.
she was angry.
And she knew she was angry.
Because she knew her own anger, she was the first to empathize with Aang when he got angry.
And it was because of it she could tell Aang forcing himself to lock his emotions up was not the answer.
Because she knew her own anger, she kept herself under control in the dessert, when everyone else was a mess.
Her anger empowered her. where anger was a tool of self-destruction for firebenders, for her it was what helped her push forward.
It was her anger that freed Aang.
It was her anger that helped her stand to Pakku.
Her anger was her strenght.
She was angry. And this was neither a mistake, nor a writing flaw.
i hate being an adult because no matter how hard you try your house is never ever ever ever ever clean
it's so fun how they removed sokka's sexism because it's "problematic" but then took away every aspect of katara that made her who she is and completely flattened her personality in a way that leaves none of the aspects that made her a feminist character and in a way that is only ever done to female characters and by fun i mean im going to kill them
it's so fun how they removed sokka's sexism because it's "problematic" but then made suki a nepo baby who spends the whole episode making heart eyes at sokka and getting flustered around him because she saw him shirtless and who grew up sheltered and has never seen the world (by which she means boys) and who spends no time talking to or about the other kyoshi warriors, and it's so fun how instead of her teaching sokka that women are just as worthy and capable as men it's her thanking sokka for "bringing the world to her", and by fun i mean im going to kill them
your show doesn't pass the bechdel test.
Sokka 's whole arc in the original is about how he's scared and inexperienced, so he latches onto toxic masculinity as a crutch. Then, through traveling the world and broadening his horizons, as well as gaining skills and confidence, he realizes this viewpoint is wrong and finds a positive, balanced masculinity to identify with.
Likewise, Aang needs to be whiny and distractible at the beginning so we can see him mature.
If your characters are already mature, then you don't get to grow with them, and also why are you making a show ABOUT CHILDREN?
As for the Bechdel test....I dunno man. It's not really important but also it's the BARE MINIMUM.
Ugh.
sleepy queen
I'm feeling like supporting some women's wrongs! (And rights, but definitely also wrongs.)
Pick your favorite of these female characters:
Carmilla (aka Mircalla) from Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu's "Carmilla" (1872)
Vittoria Corombona from John Webster's "The White Devil" (1612)
Mary Crawford from Jane Austen's "Mansfield Park" (1814)
Attolia Irene from Megan Whalen Turner's "The Queen of Attolia" (2000)
Catra in "She-Ra and the Princesses of Power" (2018-2020)
Tar-Ancalimë in JRR Tolkien's "The Mariner's Wife" (c. 1965)
Procne in Ovid's "Metamorphoses" (c. 8)
Lucrezia Borgia in "The Borgias" (2011-2013)
Miranda Lawson in "Mass Effect" (2007-2012)
Cersei Lannister in "A Song of Ice and Fire" (1996-)
Kuvira in "Legend of Korra" (2012-2014)
Clytemnestra in Aeschylus's "Oresteia" (a ways back)
