AO3: PaigePenn. Main tumblr: @nonbinary-octopus [Story Masterpost] Read this blog in chronological order Yes, I do have taglists, both general and for specific stories. Please ask for them on my main, for organizational reasons. This is a blog to collect all the stories I post on tumblr. Everything is tagged with what sort of story it is (for example, #sanders sides and #gt are my most common tags) and, in the case of multichapter stories, the chapter number and the story it belongs to. (Single-chapter stories are tagged #oneoff rather than having chapter numbers, and do not always have a tag for the story title, as there's nothing to group them with.) In addition to the tagging system, you may notice that I reblog from two different blogs. They are both me, but @nommy-thoughts is my vore sideblog, so if a story is vorish, it'll be reblogged from there (and tagged #noms). Most of my writing isn't vorish, though, so almost everything will be reblogged from @nonbinary-octopus.

once you’re in the hive, the other bees assume you’re supposed to be there
[Ao3]
Status: In progress
Summary:
Virgil accidentally gets absorbed by his best friend’s brother’s polycule.
In his defense, they keep feeding him every time they see him, and Patton’s cooking is really good.
“Good.” The giant smiled, and reached for him again. As their fingertips closed around his bicep, they said, “You really are so small. What delicate little bones you must have.”
Lewis was not a small man; he had not even been a small youth. He certainly felt small now, however. Was this how it felt to be a beetle subjected to a child's curiosity? He hoped the giant wasn't the type to end their examination by tearing limbs off.
Gentle. They'd promised him they'd be gentle, if he cooperated.
The giant gently pinched his arm between their fingertips, their grip like a vice. Lewis fought back the urge to struggle. It would have been a fruitless resistance, and the giant wanted him to let them do this.
He let himself in, glancing around the front room as he removed his shoes. Roman was not immediately visible, and though there was a blanket on the couch, it didn't look like it was taking up enough space to have a sleeping person under it. The television was turned off, as were the lights.
Logan set his bag on the coffee table and headed further into the quiet apartment. It only took him a few moments to check the other rooms, confirming that they were unoccupied. Unless Roman had gone out uncharacteristically early, he must be in his bedroom.
Logan knocked lightly. When there was no reply, he opened the door, expecting to find Roman asleep.
Instead, there was a stranger standing half-crouched on Roman's bed, one hand on the curtain but angled to face Logan. He looked equal parts bewildered and stressed. “You got it open,” he said in a surpised tone that barely carried across the room. He stepped down from the bed with far more grace than Logan would have expected, and strode purposefully toward him. Logan almost flinched, but the stranger merely peered past him out at the hallway.
“Who are you?” Logan demanded. “How did you get in here, where's Roman?” He was aware that this was too many questions at once, but they all felt fairly pressing at the moment, and he was having some difficulty prioritizing.
The stranger grimaced apologetically. “I haven't seen anyone else,” he said. “How long have you been here, did the human catch you too?”
hello I started a new story today. it is sanders sides in slime rancher. so I decided it's time to do another wip wednesday again
send me an ask for any of these wips and I will write and post at least three sentences for it. gonna leave this one open til new years I think because I am posting it shortly before midnight and also this week gonna be busy for a lot of people.
gonna call this theme "far from home"

“Bleeeaurg,” Roman complained.
Virgil blinked groggily, and tried to sit up. His head swam, and he slumped back down. “Blech,” he agreed. His mouth tasted gross, like he'd been chewing on tire rubber.
“Virg’l?” Roman said, sounding just as out of it.
“Yeah, 's me,” Virgil mumbled. He rubbed his hands against his face, tried to wake up more. Was he hungover? Was this what a hangover felt like? Virgil tried to remember what he'd been doing last night, and came up blank.
Virgil groaned, and tried sitting up again, pushing himself up on his elbows. He still didn't feel great, but he managed to blearily assess his surroundings. The room was round, with a domed ceiling. The sunlight was coming in from a wide window to his left, past the second bed with Roman in it. It had curtains, but they were open. On the other side of the room was a pile of boxes and furniture, padded for travel and looking like they’d been jumbled around some, but not too bad.
Right.
Too late to change their minds now. A thousand light-years too late. Now that he was more awake, Virgil remembered planning, remembered packing as much of their worldly belongings as they could fit in the 7Z crates.
He didn’t remember any of the journey. They’d said he wouldn’t, that it would just feel like he’d dozed off for a bit. Virgil wondered if any of them had ever taken the travel meds before.
I don’t really see these much? So I figured I’d be the change I wanna see in the world and start making some of my own.

Poor Lewis... Keep his story going, he should be manhandled more. Enrichment in the Enclosure, please.
not to worry, the manhandling has only just begun! :D
~ ~ ~
“It's alright,” the giant said softly. “I won't drop you.” A finger brushed the side of his head, then down his arm from his shoulder to his elbow. “Are you hurt?”
Lewis had to take a moment before he could answer. His heart felt like it was trying to escape, but was he actually injured? A fall like that — even just the short distance he had actually dropped, not all the way to the ground — after a fall like that, onto stone or pavement, even onto grass, he would expect injuries. Torn clothing, scraped palms and knees where they struck the ground, if nothing else.
Lewis lifted his hands, examining them. They smarted a bit, sure, but were fully intact. A touch to his knees found them hardly tender, and his trousers untorn. His elbows, the same.
it's been a bit since I did a wip wednesday lol. Time for another one!
Rules:
I will list four wips below
you will send me an ask requesting one of them

Wips:
Enrichment in Their Enclosure (chrono) (non-chrono)
Rotate the Energy Skyward (chrono) (non-chrono)
John Goes to Mars (chrono) (non-chrono)
Switching Heights (chrono) (non-chrono)
Snippet, from Enrichment in their Enclosure :
It ought to have taken Lewis several long terrifying seconds to hit the ground. Instead, his feet collided almost immediately with a solid surface. He stumbled, knees buckling, and might have been able to regain his balance if not for the ground jolting under his feet such that he tumbled roughly to his knees and elbows.
He was alive. Winded, certainly, and shaking from the terror still coursing through his veins, and he had only barely managed to keep from bashing his face against the ground, but he was alive. Lewis slumped in relief, eyes closing for a moment as he caught his breath.
He was also, he realized after a moment, not actually on the ground. His forearms were braced against a surface which gave gently under them, and even through his sleeves he could feel warmth radiating up into him. Lewis swore under his breath and opened his eyes.
Flesh.
He was sprawled across the giant’s palm, perilously close to the edge. Their fingers arched up to the side close enough to touch, but they hadn’t closed on him this time. Actually, that was almost more surprising than the giant catching him, considering how casually they had been moving him around earlier. With a bit of a groan, Lewis pushed himself upright. He didn’t think he should stand, not on a platform this small and unsteady, but he didn’t need to stay down either.
No sooner did he rise to his knees than the giant proved his instincts right, tipping their hand under him. Lewis had enough time to take an alarmed breath before his back hit their other palm. It was… well, it wasn’t his idea of gentle, but it hadn’t hurt at least.
Enrichment in their Enclosure, and two hiveminds and a stowaway, please!
Lewis dared not look down. The fall from here would be— worse, the giant was lifting him again! They raised him up nearly to their eye level, watching with clear interest as Lewis struggled to keep his grip, to not fall to his death. Clear interest, and not a flicker of concern.
Of course, what concern was it of theirs if he fell? He could be replaced; they had made that clear from the start. It makes no difference to me.
The giant's thumb twitched. Lewis's grip failed him, and, flailing for another handhold, he fell.
Enrichment in their Enclosure and two hiveminds and a stowaway, please!!
Or at all, he realized. They had said they wanted to pick him up, and they had said they would be gentle. They had not said anything about how long they intended to hold him, or if they planned to keep him indefinitely.
“The other sentries were getting antsy, I figured— oh, you've got a good grip there, don't you,” the giant interrupted theirself as they lifted the thumb they'd told Lewis to hold onto, and hoisted Lewis into the air along with it. The palm beneath him abruptly dropped away, leaving Lewis supporting his own weight. Lewis gulped, hands tightening on the wrinkles of flesh he had managed to grab onto, and held on for dear life.

“Not solid to gaseous?” A checked, to be sure.
“No,” the human confirmed. “Solid to liquid to gaseous.”
If the water must go through the intermediary step of being liquid, there was only one method. “Energize it.”
“Good!” the human said. “Yes. Energize me.”
“No!” A said.
“For what reason, no?” the human asked. “Difficulty? Expense?”
“Danger,” A answered. “That would kill you, you don't energize living things!” Not that the human could easily fit into the energization chamber, even so.
The human considered this. “Is it possible to energize water without danger?”
“Yes,” A said. Water was not alive. It would not be harmed by energizing.
The human made the affirmative head gesture. “Good. I desire energized water. Not gaseous, however proximity to gaseous.”
This at least was something that A could acquire for them. It might be tricky to calibrate the energization process to not quite render the water gaseous, but they could compress it afterward, perhaps.
“What will you do with it?” they asked as they led the human toward the place on the ship where the energizers were.
“I will drink it,” the human answered, and A stopped.
“You will drink the energized liquid?” they repeated, horrified. “No, again, danger!” Why did the human keep asking for things that would harm them? Touching water that had been energized to nearly gaseous might not be as dangerous an intent as wanting to touch the fuel as it propelled the ship, or wanting to use the energizer on theirself, but it would still cause considerable damage, and to drink it!?
“I will take caution,” the human attempted to reassure, but A was not reassured.
“Energized water is dangerous,” they reiterated.
The human considered. “Does energizing…” they paused, clearly trying to think of the right words. “Does it change the water?”
“Of course it changes the water, it's energized,” A said.
“Yes,” the human said. “However. Aside from the energy, does the water change? Is it… is the water bad? It makes me sick? It is contaminated?”
“Not contaminated,” A answered, because their water was very clean, containing only the additives which make it better to drink. “It would harm you, an injury.”
“Ah,” the human said, and nodded again. “Yes. I take caution, and I avoid injury. It is possible to energize the water less, or it is possible to add solid water to the energized water to remove energy.” They look imploringly at A. “This is acceptable?”
A hesitated. It was hardly an ideal proposal. “This is important?”
“Yes,” the human said emphatically, and gestured yes as well. “Yes important, more concern accompanies solidifying liquids than combustion my mouth. I prefer combustion my mouth above misplace my fingers.”
Their fingers, which were emotionally solid water. “Human fingers can detatch?” A asked. They had not heard of such a thing.
The human made a sound of amusement, except that it did not actually sound amused. “It is not intended,” they said. “They do not return activated. It is bad, misplace fingers because bite of solid water.” The human intensified their pleading expression. “Gratify, is danger.”
A still did not want to let the human drink energized water. “Is there another way to protect your fingers?”
“Yes. It does not translate,” the human said. “Rotate the energy skyward, lift the energy, energize me skyward. Gratify, the ship solidifies liquids and it injures. It is not possible to touch my toes.”
A looked down at the human's feet, which were clad as always in the stiff shoes they preferred. It was not usually possible to touch the human's toes, so they weren't sure why they had mentioned it now. Still, the human clearly was distressed, and the only solution they had managed to communicate was energized water. Much as A wanted to fuss over the human like a mother flufflet, they had to admit that they were no expert in human needs, nor in what they could safely endure.
“I will give you energized water,” they relented, and gestured for the human to follow.
The human's expression changed immediately from imploring to delighted. “Good! Gratitude!”
They reached the room where the energizers were installed, and A opened a cabinet to select a container. “How much energized water?”
The human leaned in. “This,” they said, indicating one of the larger vessels. “Gratify?”
“Yes,” A said, even though the idea of the human deliberately consuming that much energized water was still quite concerning. They took the container, filled it with water, sealed it, and placed it into the energization chamber.
This would be the tricky part, calibrating the energizer appropriately. The water needed to be energized, but still remain liquid, and they could not use compression to force it to retain that state. “How much energy?” A asked, beginning to adjust the settings.
The human considered. “How much energy,” they murmured softly. “One-third circle, maybe? Does that translate?”
“No.”
“No, obviously.” They considered some more, then dismissed it with a shoulder bob. “I do not know your measurements. More proximity to gaseous than to solid water. Which is easier, energize small, then energize again, or excessively energize and allow dissipation?”
“How will you test it?” A asked dubiously.
“Touch,” the human answered, and must have correctly interpreted A's instinctive reaction of alarm, because they quickly added, “Cautious, cautious, I touch gently.” They gestured, tracing the shape of an imaginary container in the air. “Look. Not touch fast.” They held their hand over the imaginary container, moving it through the air. “Not touch, yes? Cautious of danger. If too much energy, not touch.”
That was somewhat better than touching the energized water directly, but A was not mollified. “You will open the container and touch the escaping energy,” they said.
“Yes,” the human agreed, as though A was just asking for clarification.
“It will injure you.”
“No,” said the human, calmly. “No danger, if it is too much energy to touch air, the gaseous water is visible, and I do not touch it.”
Energy itself is not visible, and the amount of energy which would escape from an opened container of energized water could still be quite dangerous, even if the water itself had not been energized to the point of becoming gaseous.
“I will energize it in increments,” A said. The human had said the water should be closer to gaseous than to solid, but A was still unconvinced that would truly be safe for them to touch, let alone drink. They set the energization to a much gentler setting, so that the water would be agitated, certainly, but wouldn't injure the human from just a touch. Hopefully.
It would certainly be unpleasant at best for A to touch, but would require extended contact to cause lasting damage. Humans were odd creatures, hardier than other species in some ways, in their strength, their speed, their endurance, their tenacity, but their skin could be so soft, so easily torn.
The energizer indicated that it had finished, and A opened the chamber. They removed the container, and then, very carefully, sure to keep their manipulators out of the way of the opening, unsealed the lid.
It released with a small pop as some of the energy escaped, and then easily moved out of the way to allow access to its contents.
Hoping this wasn't about to go poorly, A offered the container to the human.
“Gratitude,” the human said, taking it. They tapped a finger on the side of the container. “It is equal,” they said with interest. “Touches equal as before.”
“Yes,” A said. “It is shielded against energy escaping.” Obviously, or they would have needed protective equipment to handle it. Also, that would be an extremely inefficient container, if it allowed the energy to escape through its walls.
“Tidy,” the human said. Holding the container with one hand, they lifted the other and briefly held it above the container in the way they had demonstrated earlier.
Then they dipped a finger into the energized water without hesitation. A nearly tried to snatch the container away, and was only stopped by the knowledge that fighting over it was likely to cause a spill.
The human did not make any sounds of pain. Rather, they made a disappointed bodily gesture, a slumping of the shoulders and a downturning of the outer corners of the mouth.
“No,” they said, retrieving their finger from the container and wiping the water on their garment. They passed the container back to A. “More energy, gratify?”
“You are certain?” A asked cautiously.
“Yes,” the human said, tipping their head forward forcefully. “I am solidifying liquids.”
A put the container back into the energization chamber and adjusted the settings again, this time energizing the water to the midpoint between solid and gaseous.
When they offered the open container to the human again, the human once more waved a hand over the opening, and then bared their teeth in an expression of pleasure. “Yes. Good. Gratitude,” they said, and raised the container to their lips.
They did not drink the energized water as quickly as they usually drank water, only taking a small swallow before lowering the container again and baring their teeth at A more forcefully.
“Good?” A asked. “Are you hurt at all?”
“Good!” the human agreed. “Not hurt. This assists. It is possible for it to be kinder; however, continuing good.”
“Kinder how?” The human seemed quite certain that the energized water had not injured them, but any way to mitigate potential harm would be good.
“It is unadorned,” the human said. “It is… it is functional, however it is not extremely flavorful.”
“It is water.” Water had some flavor, yes, but it was minimal, and A doubted that energizing it changed that. Had the human expected it to?
“Yes,” the human said, and drank some more of it, a larger swallow than before. “I do not assume you possess energized” –a word the translator did not recognize– “composite.”
"Doubtful," A said. "What is it?"
The human repeated the untranslated word, then, "lactation, glucose…" They considered. "Primarily that, yes. It is possible to create with energized water or energized lactation."
"No," A said. They had foods containing glucose, of course, but not glucose on its own, nor whatever the untranslated term had been, and they certainly did not have any lactated secretions on board. They were not of a species which fed its young in that manner, nor did they anticipate having any such young aboard, especially not without their parents.
"Excessive misfortune," the human said in a tone far calmer than the words. They sipped the energized water again. "Is it possible I do this? Will you demonstrate?"
"You want to energize more water?"
"Yes. Is it difficult?"
A waggled a hand in an approximation of the human gesture for "the answer to that is neither Yes nor No; it is somewhere in between, or both simultaneously, or otherwise complicated." The energization chamber was not difficult to use, if one understood it, but as the human had said, they did not know the measurements. They had no experience using the chamber. It would take more time to instruct them than to energize another container of water for them.
"How much do you want?" A asked. The human had not yet drunk even half of their current container.
The human bobbed their shoulders. "Total of my water intake," they said. "Temporal indicator, ongoing, until it is possible to translate 'Gratify is it possible to rotate the energy skyward, liquids are solidifying inside this location.'"
New words.
"Inside this location?" A asked.
"Yes," the human said.
"This room?"
"This room, that room, flight room, all. The ship is solidifying liquids."
Notably, there were no liquids solidifying in this room, nor was A aware of any in other parts of the ship. "Can you show me?"
"Certain," the human said, which was an odd casual form of yes they liked to use. They set their container of energized water down, and pulled the sleeve of their garment up to bare their arm. "Look."
The human's skin… it had not been that texture before, had it? It had been smooth before under the sparse fur, and was now riddled with small lumps.
The human said another word that failed to translate, and "-collisions."
"Injury? Sickness?" A asked, worried. Why hadn't the human mentioned this earlier? They needed treatment! A still didn't know what of their medical supplies would work on a human, and not being able to translate the cause of the lumps would only complicate things—
"No, no," the human said, laughing. "No, no injury, no sickness. Look, my fur, it stands. It attempts to snare energy, it is—" They perked up. "It is ineffecient shielding. The cup, it is shielded, yes? Energy is inside, does not exit. My fur attempts that." They pulled their sleeve back down to cover their arm again. "Garments, also, shielding to retain energy."
“You require energy shielding,” A said, thinking. Like the container, like the hull of the ship.
Finally, they were still. Or, not still exactly, Lewis had not seen the giant be completely still even in rest, but their movement went from a raging storm to around that of a calm ocean. Lewis cracked an eye cautiously open as the hand leveled out and the giant fingers began to unfurl from around him once more. They were back in the middle of the field, where the giant had been sitting earlier. That was a relief, somewhat. On the one hand, the giant seemed content to remain in place, now that they had Lewis. On the other hand — in their hand — the fact that they had taken Lewis back with them suggested that they had no intention of putting him down any time soon.
And then they lifted Lewis close to their chest and stood. It was like an earthquake, like being at sea in the middle of a storm, and all Lewis could do was hold on and ride it out. He squeezed his eyes shut, but it did little to help as the living force of nature rose, and swayed, and carried him off.
It wasn't a long ride, the giant's ground-eating stride reaching their destination in only a few steps, and then they lowered theirself back down at a rate only slightly slower than a freefall, and far more jerky.
Enrichment in their Enclosure for WIP Wednesday please!
The giant glanced away down the fence again. “Oh, hold on,” they said distractedly, and moved. Without even looking down at Lewis, they scooped him into one hand again, fingers closing in around him. Lewis managed to grab onto the giant's thumb in the chaos, wrapped his arms around it, and held on. “I know, I know,” the giant boomed above him, much louder than they'd spoken before. Lewis wished he had another pair of hands to cover his ears. “Too close to the fence. I'm moving, don't worry.”
