incredibly excited for the new extra juri & shiori get married chapter
Blink* blink* šš„ŗ šš„ŗ
So cute š
Iām so hug deprived rn I MISS MY FRIENDS :((((((
Tiny little shiori's cuz i love her ā„
don't tell me you wound up dead
i'd never believe you anyway
Fit idea
I look through my irl friendsā blogs every 2 hours and get disappointed when thereās no new posts
Post-revolution juriori
Sorry if its stupid but i kinda think like they would be closer after revolution but still shiori playing silly games to keep juri attached to herself npt showing her love to juri but using juris love to feel better.
Shiori yapping about metaphysics and spirituality
Juriori ideas never end...
sometimes Iāll see clothes and think theyāre utena as hellĀ
this is supposed to be an inktober shhhhh
Girlfriends girlfriendss grown upp
Shiori wearing something a bit fancy cuz she cant go out basic while juri is like a fashion icon next to her (juri is not paying attention on what shiori is talking about at all) at first i drew shiori with longer hair but like her bob is just way to iconic to change so.
Azure, Paler Than the Sky
FINALLY finished this piece, which I started over a year ago. Juri's 2nd duel is one of my favorite moments in Utena. There are so many gut-wrenching shots that I couldn't get out of my head, so I had to draw them all. This'll be available as a print at Lightbox Expo this year!
Locket vs. Stopwatch
Putting aside the practical reason he uses it, do we think Mikiās stopwatch is his equivalent to Juriās locket? Both represent time passing, specifically their strong fixation on a version of the past.
Unlike the locket, Mikiās watch has no direct ties to Kozue because heās still trying to find his āshining thingā while Juriās already kind of resigned herself to yearning for Shiori. Stopwatches are reset every time theyāre done recording a (usually short) interval of time passing, so that could possibly symbolize how the ideal of a āshining thingā only lasts for a short amount of time until the rose-tinted glasses break, āresettingā the cycle afterwards in pursuit of a new one.
Juriās motive for dueling is more pessimistic in nature. Her locket is worn on a chain around the neck, which is a more vulnerable area. It acts as a leash, giving her respective item a sense of both control and strangulation. These donāt apply to the stopwatch since itās always held in the hands, which is one of the most externally active body parts. Itās light, functional, used openly, and unless itās a super luxury stopwatch, has less monetary value. This is all in contrast to the locket which is heavier, hidden away, not particularly functional, and probably more expensive.
So while Mikiās stopwatch represents time moving in a cycle that always returns to one moment in time, Juriās locket represents staying in and being exclusively focused on one moment in time. Both items represent stagnancy in different ways. In the end, neither of them are really moving forward.
I think the real culmination of Juri and Mikiās parallels is Ruka. As much as it hurts to say, his purpose in the story in relation to the fencing club covert-misogyny-towards-girls-with-purple-hair duo is really interesting so Iāll probably make a part 2.
I made them in Tomodachi, Juri called Shiori "girl in my locker" and Shiori nicknamed her "my freak lesbian"
being into revolutionary girl utena is crazy bc youāll look at a screencap and be like āomg⦠shiori (cut out by juri but yk) is crossing her LEFT hand over her RIGHT hand rather than her RIGHT hand over her LEFT hand like every other girl in the scene, symbolizing her non conforming to society and that she is a lesbian. also the men arenāt crossing their hands which symbolizes they are expected to be like masculine and strong or whatever (also symbolized by their blocky, rectangular uniforms vs the girlsā sailor suits with skirts that have more soft angles) instead of demure and obedient (obedience implied by the hand gesture the girls do). so by still crossing her hands shiori symbolizes that she is still giving in to heteronormativity and patriarchy (as she does by looking at the brown hair guy who i think is right next to her? idk) BUT by doing it in a way different from every other girl there she is also being subtly a lesbian. i wonder if juri is crossing her hands like that tooā
