tell me more about how steven universe has facade (2005) in its writing im intrigued

facade (which, for anyone who hasn't played it, is about a person walking in on an argument between two married friends and their attempts to mediate their quite broken relationship during a dinner with them) is noted as something that influenced the showrunner in a few interviews and I definitely think you could argue picks at similar things, specifically in how a lot of the drama of steven universe is structured around its main character having to get in between shitty and not necessarily solvable interpersonal arguments between people. it's also often a bit voyeuristic (for lack of a better term) in a similar way; one of SU's most oft criticized choices (and one which I personally like a lot) is that the show never breaks from steven's perspective, and as a result of that the show is peppered with scenes of him overhearing weighty private conversations between the adults around him, not unlike how a lot of facade plays out:

i think you could say one of the main artistic goals of the show is capturing the feeling of becoming cognizant of how your parents are also real people who are just as vindictive and scared and messy as you are and the way that can kind of mess with you; it's, imo, gesturing at similar things facade is going for but for the specific perspective of young teenagers

Without fail, every time a woman is talking about how she does not want to have children and never wants to be pregnant and how medical professionals, romantic interests and family members keep trying to bulldoze her decision and keep expecting her to change her mind because motherhood is something that is expected of all women and it is abhorrent to think a woman could not desire it, a random mother spawns in the comments to be like “Well, actually, you never know! Formerly childfree women who ended up having children and loving it are like detransitioners in the sense that there is nothing inherently wrong with changing your mind about having children or realizing you were mistaken about your gender identity but immediately weaponizing your indecision to tell people that the barriers to healthcare and the violations of their bodily autonomy and the way society ignores that person’s wishes is actually okay because you were wrong. #if you’ve been bitten by a snake and can’t just drive yourself to the hospital or call emergency services#then it seems the best thing you can do is not try to treat it in anyway and just walk calmly to#the nearest spot you last got cell service or just back to your car 

okay so here’s the Snakebite First Aid 101 that every Australian child is taught like ten billion times. If you get bitten by a snake:

- Try to get a look at the snake. Remember what it looks like. This will help emergency services get you the correct antidote as quickly as possible.

- Remain as calm as you possibly can. The faster your heart is beating, the less time you have.

- If the bite is on an arm/hand or leg/foot, bandage the area. This should be done IMMEDIATELY. Bandage it firmly, the same way that you would for a sprain. You are attempting to minimise bloodflow out of the bitten tissue. If you are not alone, it’s best to have somebody else do the bandaging. (A tourniquet is unnecessary in anything but the most dire circumstances. All this will do is lose you a limb for no reason.)

- If it is safe to do so, sit down immediately and keep the snakebite below your heart (opposite as for a sprain; you want the bite lower, not higher.) You can rest your back on a tree or something but it’s best not to lie down. This is to keep your heart rate and blood pressure as low as possible and make it as unlikely as possible that the venom will be pumped around your body.

- Call emergency services.

- If you don’t have a signal, send somebody else to find one and call emergency services. DO NOT go walking off to do this yourself if somebody else is available to do it. You want to do as little moving around as possible.

- If you are completely alone and have no access to emergency services, you are going to have to make the best decision you can and take a risk. If you can alert others without moving, this is ideal, but you may have to get up and move. If you’re in a snakeridden area, it’s best to never go alone or make sure you have a radio or phone (and signal), in addition to wearing snakeproof clothing. That way you can avoid this scenario. Being alone and unable to call for help with a snakebite is the worst case scenario, but it’s NOT a death sentence – bandage the bite, exert as little physical effort as possible, and if you have access to a vehicle, get to it as directly as you can to minimise walking.

- Remember that the vast majority of deaths by snakebite are due to people not knowing these steps. Correct first aid for snakebites gives you four to six hours of time; even clumsy or incorrect application can buy you two hours. Most people who are bitten by snakes are not injected with a lethal venom. Most people who are injected, and follow these steps, survive and fully recover.

IMO, blurring the lines between “I’m defending them because they’re right” and “I’m defending them because you’re taking this too far” is step numero uno to cutting down the very existence of fair trial and democracy–even in places where saying that might seem a little dramatic.

i dont think that people actually dislike 'fluff' in writing its just that not many people know how to write characters well when nothing high stakes is happening and therefore the scenes feel bland or wasted (tucks and rolls offstage) because they can only imagine people to be interesting during high action scenes and not during the slower moments in between (slides on a tomato) likely because they consider their own life and the people around them uninteresting and cannot imagine characters they want to like to be anything less than larger than life when in reality the quiet humanity between action is the core of all good character writing (gets shot)

Fucked up and evil how, BY DESIGN, you have the ability to go through the entirety of Scarlet Hollow treating Avery the exact same way they are treated by the rest of the town. How they are an incredibly interesting character with a lot of depth but only if you take the time to know them. You don't have to witness their problems for the story to progress like Stella or Oscar or Reese or Kaneeka, hell, even when they are finally in a chapter conflict without you having to invite them you have the option to almost completely ignore them and their role in the situation. Actually fucked up and evil. Screaming crying and throwing up. There is such good Avery for people willing to look for it but you have to be willing to... you have to go out of your way to extend to them a kindness no one else has. Yeah I'm gonna need a minute
