i decided that i would live for the sake of love.
follow up birthday thought -
grown up Lucy and Lockwood, married with kids.
picnics in the garden underneath the apple tree are a summer staple. anytime there’s good weather, the little family has afternoon tea outside, soaking up the sunlight.
and Lucy’s birthday is always the first garden picnic of the summer. it’s a tradition! Lockwood picks up donuts and buns and crisps and cake, Lucy fills up thermoses with orange juice and tea (and hot chocolate on the colder birthdays) and the kids hang paper chains from the apple tree and make a crown for their mum to wear.
and the Lockwood family devours the treats with lots of giggles and dancing and games of Questions and I Spy, until the little Lockwoods are sugar-high and chasing each other around the yard and Lockwood and Lucy are smiling at each other and holding hands…
every year, he tries to make a comment about how this is the first real day of the summer which is perfect because it’s the day Lucy was born, and she brought summer into his life… and Lucy always shoves him and tells him to have some dignity and shut up
later, George and Flo and Holly and Kipps will be over for a big birthday dinner and lots of laughter and memories and a lighthearted argument or two
but for now they are at peace and happy and sitting in the sun in their garden.
Luce,
I saw you looking at your reflection today.
You were tugging at the streaks in your hair like you do sometimes, twisting and pulling and trying to hide them, and you said something to Holly about dyeing them soon.
I know you don’t like them. They’re a constant reminder of the nightmare that was the Other Side.
But when I look at them… all I can feel is grateful. Grateful that no matter what happens, I got a glimpse of what you’ll look like when you live to grow old.
You know, perhaps better than anyone, what it means to be an agent. What it means to wonder if you’ll ever have a future. Believe it or not, I have hope for one… a future where there is tea and biscuits and decades of photographs on the walls and children’s drawings all over the Thinking Cloth and George over for dinner and your hand in mine.
But if we never get there, at least I have a piece of what it would be. At least I can enjoy how beautiful you look with white at your temples. How perfect you are. And sometimes, when we sit by the fire and I’m almost asleep, it feels like maybe we really did reach that future. Without ghosts, or fear, or doubt. A future where the one thing we know, the truest thing in the world, is that I…
Yours, Lockwood
unironically one of my favourite scenes of lockwood because he looks so utterly pathetic and sad in the most endearing way?? who let him be that pretty while looking in love yet miserable?!?! Jokes aside, there is something so unmistakably young about him in this moment. This quiet, painful reminder that he’s not the brave, put together adult he tries to pretend to be. He’s just a teenager, completely out of his depth, trying to hold it all together ;-; </3
Every single fic update there is an author trying frantically to find the right balance between a nonchalant aside of "leave a comment if you enjoyed =)" and clinging desperately to the coat tails of a random stranger, dragging along behind them on the street wailing "Please, please! I have to know what you thought! I'm desperate to talk to people about this! Ask me about the alliterative repetition! Ask me about the symbolism!"

I’m sorry but… anthony j lockwood in The Creeping Shadow making a point to correct all the mistakes he made in The Hollow Boy
1. didn’t trust/allow Lucy to use her talent vs consulting her and asking for her help
2. asked Holly to assign them to separate cases vs paired himself with Lucy every chance he got
3. made a toast to Hol and ignored Luce vs giving Lucy her own toast and thanking her for everything she did
4. i’m sure there’s more but i have to get ready for church
LIKE. THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF IF HE WANTED TO HE WOULD

I thought writing would feel like;
Turns out it’s herding cats. Half of them are on fire, and the other half are narrative choices I don’t remember making.

In another life you still would have turned my head...
another one! this time remembered the gray lock
"At a quarter past three on the afternoon following our encounter with Flo Bones, two young teenaged tourists, slurping iced Cokes from giant paper flagons, turned out of Museum Street’s hot sunlight and entered the shady side-road. The girl wore a True Hauntings T-shirt, a floaty knee-length skirt and sandals. The boy wore a blue cotton shirt, an enormously baggy pair of shorts, and sneakers. Both had large sunglasses; they laughed and joked loudly as they strolled along."
Happy valentines dayyy!!! Bit late but never too late to post locklyle being the cutest
And death embraced her, dancing For it had found its pair Lucy Carlyle you will always be that girl
Battle of the Cancelled Shows - FINALE
Which TV show deserved more seasons?
Lockwood & Co.
Dirk Gently's holistic detective agency
Snoop on the other polls here
Hate towards any shows will NOT be tolerated!
Why Lockwood & Co. deserved more seasons:
It should have adapted the five books ! Also we didn't getting Holly Munro, the hyperefficient Black girl hired by the agency in the later books. She's feminine and lovely and clashes a bit with Lucy at first but plays well with the team and helps them out quite a lot Oh and we absolutely deserve the Locklyle slowburn to continue. Not to mention I loved the show! version of George
They adapted 2 of the 5 books and set everything up in the first series and then it was canceled!
It adapts a series of five books and they only ever did two!! AND IT ENDS ON A CLIFFHANGER!!!
It was seriously as close to perfect as I can just imagine a tv show to be.
Why Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency deserved more seasons:
Banger first season that I legit can't even get into because of how complex it is and how many layers it has. VERY COOL. If you watch anything from it watch the first season. It starts off really confusing but the more it unravels the more you'll be astounded by just how much of it is set up from the beginning. The second season I like slightly less compared to the near perfect first because I kind of saw it all coming immediately but that was also pretty awesome regardless. They set up one of the previously good/neutral ish characters to be an antagonist in season 3 which was hype. And thennnn season 3 never came.
Not only was this a fun show with an EXCELLENT cast (I love every character and I’m impressed by every actor (And There Are Many)), but at the end of season 2 you can see the next 2-4 seasons laid out in front of you. The character arcs were going to be fascinating, they had seasons worth of theme and material to play with, it was all going to be SO good, and it just doesn’t exist. Every time I rewatch the show it hurts anew, because it was all there! They had thought the future through and worked to set it up beautifully and all I want is to follow those threads and get to see how fulfilling the challenges they give each character are, but NO.
It left off on a partial cliffhanger - several characters were reunited and set up for future adventures in a very specific way - while one character was left on a very anxious cliffhanger and now we'll never know if she kills her evil best friend or not 😭
