Hey hey! This isn’t something I intended to post about, nor is it me asking for pity. But maybe other fanfic writers have encountered this???
Since my last update on Hold Your Breath, I have received three comments that are borderline rude, questioning the storyline, how I wrote the characters, or simply saying, “what the fuck was that”. I stopped posting fic due to my mental health and anxiety around it. I’ve moved out of the fanfic spaces and into ones that have welcomed original writing. Posting what I have left of my fics is a nice return to L&Co, but I’m not here to fuck spiders (as Australians say). Either you have something nice to say or you keep your thoughts to yourself. Don’t like my fic? Don’t fucking read.
To new fic readers: If you want a story exactly like the source material, go reread that. If you want a spin on the characters, the world, or the characters plonked into another world, then read fanfic. Fanfic writers make absolutely NO MONEY of their art. Your hits, your reads, are nothing more than numbers that mean jackshit. But your comments slip into a real person’s inbox.
To the people who have left kind comments: Thank you. Your words always brighten my day. And your reads, hits, kudos, mean more than I can explain.
