As someone who has only seen the first 5 seasons of Supernatural, I’m calling out to the community to recommend some of your guys’ favorite Supernatural fics in ao3. The reason as to why I’m asking strangers for their recommendations is because i can’t find anything I want to read since I’m not exactly sure what’s canonical and what’s not when it comes to the later seasons.

I do have some preferences when it comes to fics, though, and i will list them out. I am pretty flexible about those preferences if the story is intriguing enough, but there are some lines I won’t cross.

My preferences are the following:

NO INCEST (non negotiable, i won’t read anything involving incest)

Sam Winchester focus or both brothers (they have to have a good relationship and get along with each other)

If there is a ship, preferably Sam/Jess or Dean/Cas

I like when Bobby, Jim, Caleb, Ellen, Missouri, etc. appear and treat the brothers as they should

It has to be somewhat long (around 200k words)

It has to be completed (no hiatus or incomplete works)

Not a big focus on the angels or the demons (i want it to evoke the early season’s vibes with monster hunting)

Psychic Sam is one of my favorite tags, but it’s not strictly necessary

I don’t care much about smut (if the story contains it i usually just skip over it)

I also enjoy Stanford era stories

I’m a sucker for angst and hurt comfort, but they also have to contain a bit of fluff to make everything better

Not really into the omegaverse thing

I’m not sure how i feel about crossovers (if it makes sense i can always give it a try)

The writing has to make sense to the characters as they are, i don’t want to read the brothers acting strange or talking in a way they wouldn’t canonically

I would really appreciate anything you guys send in, if it has something I didn’t mention or anything really, send it in and i can decide for myself if i want to read it or not

Dude i finally got on the deamons of the shadow realm wagon and the story is great and everything yada yada

Lets talk about the deamons. They are so freaking cute. Yin and Yang, Danji and Kiri, Whiteout and Ink, BunBun and Torty, the list goes on. They are just the most adorable little things, seeing them love their masters is like diabetes attack.

When Jin names Ai and Makoto and they start snuggling with him, or Yin and Yang’s cutey patootie reactions when Asa talks to them sweetly. My heart can’t take this cuteness aggression

Murphy has to be the funniest character from The 100. There’s no one more pathetic than him. The writers just keep kicking him in the balls and he just has to take it

The way he rolls down the stairs after Ontari kicks him and gets up like nothing happened. He’s so used to it by now, he doesn’t even react

So I need someone to tell me I didn't imagine this or read it somewhere in a fanfic, but it is a fact that the reason Ed is short is because his body is the one keeping Al's alive, right?

I'm pretty sure I read it in the Manga but I went back to try and find it and I couldn't and I can't tell if I actually made that up (which tbh I don't think so) or I read it in a fanfic (which I also don't think is right)

It was something mentioning how Ed sleeps a lot and eats a lot to keep Al's body alive on the other side of the gate and when Ed almost dies when impaled through the stomach, the connection is severed instantly and Al loses his consciousness immediately

I have a very careful rotation of fanfics, Tumblr and Instagram and that's just how I like to spend my free time, but ever since I finished reading If We Were Villains I haven't been able to get back to the norm. Iwwv thoughts keep plaguing my mind and they have disturbed my carefully curated peace. I'm just never gonna be able to move on. This book will haunt me for the rest of my life

Can we talk about Gibbs and Fornell's bromance?

We start ncis and both of them meet for the first time during Yankee White, fighting for jurisdiction of the case. A couple of episodes in, they have a loud discussion in the bullpen and then go to the elevator where they have a somewhat civilized conversation, to which they question why their teams think that they don't like each other? While laughing? I mean come on

We see their relationship grow with the show and I think it's one of my favorite things of the entire show. They genuinely care for each other, they rely on each other

I also think it's very funny that when Fornell and Diane were going to get married again, they went to Gibbs for his blessing, which is incredibly adorable considering that they don't need his blessing, but they still wanted it. Just like when Fornell opened up to Gibbs about online dating and asked if Gibbs would give him his blessing. You can clearly tell that Fornell holds Gibbs' opinion highly and even if Gibbs doesn't always show it, he also cares for Fornell. Like when he got shot in season 13. Gibbs ran to talk to his surgeon. He. Ran. Gibbs was concerned, he was worried for his friend

Not only that, clearly Emily loves him a lot too. When Fornell and Diane were thinking of marrying each other again, Emily went to Gibbs to talk to him because, not only does she trust him, she also holds his opinion highly. And when Fornell gets shot, she made sure to call Gibbs about every single update, to which he would go to the hospital to visit every single time

I love their friendship, I love their dynamic

So I took the liberty of watching NCIS' backdoor pilot in JAG because I have free will and I found it so interesting

You can clearly see where the foundations for NCIS were being placed and what changed when they, not only got greenlit, but confirm that people liked the concept of NCIS. The way Gibbs is gruff and rough, but softer. The way Ducky goes on with his story telling. The "female agent from the FBI". Tony being a charmer, not yet a playboy. It was amazing. I genuinely enjoyed it a lot

Also, personal opinion, but I think I would have preferred it if both Tony and Gibbs remained relatively the same with their character writing. I don't really like how mean Gibbs can be sometimes and the way Tony is a womanizer, I liked them more in the JAG episodes. I specially liked it at the end of the second episode when Gibbs looks at Tony and Viv tired and chuckles at them. It's such a fatherly thing for him to do, which he tends do sometimes in NCIS, but never this affectionate

And I will be completely honest when saying this, they clearly knew what they were doing when they added this scene

From the moment that they tell us that both Tony and Viv have arrived to this scene, the camera never focuses on Viv, but they give us this perfect shot of Tony. They knew what they were doing, they were exploiting that beautiful face and they scored because I watched this scene kicking my legs in the air

When I started watching ncis I found it so weird that I was so picky about which fics I read and I just realized today that it is because I love when they appreciate Tony's contributions to the team and his abilities, but most fanfics about that are Ziva bashing, Mcgee bashing, Abby bashing, sometimes even Gibbs bashing or Kate bashing. And I get that they tend to be mean to Tony, but at the same time I don't want the fic to make me hate them because honestly I don't

I want to read a fic where they really appreciate Tony, where they acknowledge how smart he actually is and how good he is at his job

I don't like reading fanfics about real people, I love, love, reading fics about TV shows and movies and books and comics and everything, but there's just something about reading fics about real people where I draw the line

But, BUT all the tiktok edits of Felix from Stray Kids and Kota Miura the MMA fighter omg they make me want to read fics about them sooooo bad. I'm weak, I don't think I can't fight against the temptation

Do you ever just reach a point where you read soooo much fanfiction that you run out of things to read? There are hundreds, if not thousands of works out there, but specifically that I like? That make me feel so immersed in them that I can't stop myself to continue reading until I'm done with it? The list gets shorter every time and I'm concern for my wellbeing as I've been hitting the rock bottom of my selection.

This might be a sign that I need help and to start reducing the amount of hours I spend reading fanfics on my phone

So i spent a little too long scrolling through Pinterest and I kept getting those posts that are just screenshots of tumblr posts and they were like Harry Potter headcanons or fic ideas and the comment section was filled with people saying how to find a pretty similar fic in ao3. I went to ao3 and looked up the ones that sounded appealing to me and when I was about to start reading them, I came to the realization that I only like the headcanon but could not care less about the story.

It's kind of fascinating, I mean sometimes it's so hard to even find one fic of a headcanons you like and when I find headcanons I like, I can't care less about the fic. I like the idea and the ways people view the characters but there is something about reading it happen that's just not it

Questions I had left after the end of Umbrella Academy season 4:

What happened to Sloane?

Why did Five suddenly stop caring about the family? When he and Lila are stuck on the subway, why did he not try harder to get back?

Why did Ray walk away from Allison?

What are Hargeeves and Abigail? What happened to their kind?

Why did Abigail create marigold to begin with?

If Hargeeves' kind fled from their planet, where did they end up?

How did Five create the time commission?

Why is there a subway?

If 43 babies were born because of marigold, what happened to the ones who lived?

The reason why Lila had to go back and stay with the family was because Ben/Jennifer had to absorb all of the marigold. So then what happened to the other superpowered people around the world?

Why does the apocalypse have to happen? If Hargeeves kills Jennifer, is the apocalypse the universe's way of correcting the wrong?

If there is an Umbrella Academy, a Sparrow Academy and a Phoenix Academy, what other academies are there?

How did Five manage to secure a job with the CIA while still looking relatively young?

How did Lila find her family? How does she know they are her family?

Did they land in this timeline as consciousness inside bodies with established lives or did they have to create their own lives?

How did Jennifer even get into the giant squid?

How does a commission worker, become a commission worker? Are they snatched from a random timeline? Is it like with Loki, where all the TVA workers are variants of people in the timeline?

If Grace was a real person in the 60s how did Hargeeves make the robot that would become the kids caretaker? Did he keep her corpse or did he just make a robot?

Was the 1960s Grace the Abigail of that Hargeeves?

Why did Hargeeves only try to get seven children? In the first timeline he managed to get seven babies and in the second timeline he manages to get another six babies, so why didn't he try to get all of them? (at least the ones that would be alive)

Why was there a Ben riding in the subway in the end of season 3?

What the fuck is Christopher?

That's all I could come up with for now, but I will probably add to the list if something else comes up
