- Ch. 268
“He’s back.”
Whether this was a dream or reality was no longer important. It was just that a long-cherished wish in his heart had finally been fulfilled.
Chu Wanning was almost hoarse: “So……don’t hate anymore.”
Taxian-jun gazed at him.
Roughly thinking that this dream was approaching its end, Chu Wanning closed his eyes, lifted his red-marked hands, and touched Taxian-jun’s cheek: “Turn around.”
Something seemed to collapse at the bottom of his heart, and Taxian-jun started at him without blinking, ignorance floating atop his face like a thin layer of wispy cloud.
“There’s no road ahead, so go back……don’t keep on going forward.” He cupped his cheeks. The Beidou Immortal, rising and sinking amidst two lives, looked at the Taxian-jun who had long ago turned into a living corpse. After two lifetimes, both of them crippled and broken. Chu Wanning’s voice was mute, “Mo Ran, why is your face so cold……”
Cold like ice.
If I could, I would want to be a candle, and in harsh winter’s long night, I’d stand at the crossroads, waiting for you to turn around. I want to burn for a lifetime, to light your way back home.
But why are you so cold…….
I don’t know how long I can burn. What if when my strength has gone dry and I’ve burned out, what if when I’m extinguished, you’re still in the dark night, unwilling to come back? Then, what should I do?
Chu Wanning’s fingers trembled slightly, and he closed his eyes.
He had spent his life alone, with no relatives and no friends. He didn’t fear death.
But just thinking that perhaps he would burn a lifetime of warmth and still have no way of thawing Mo Ran’s already frigid heart, he felt extremely remorseful. He thought that if he were to be extinguished, then one day, that young man might want to embark on the prodigal son’s return home but would no longer be able to find the direction of the past. At this, he felt he needed to live on.
It’s okay to wait one more day.
Maybe tomorrow, the ice will melt.
And that man will turn back, emerge from the interminably long night, and walk towards the waning light.
translating my favorite 2ha passages, 3/? (i will take suggestions too!!)
So, you’ve entered a tournament to joust for honor and glory, have you? Best make sure you know all the ins and outs and, most importantly, how to win! This post will only cover the basics, not the entirety of a medieval tournament, and will also not include details of the various weapons and armor used. If any information is incorrect, feel free to alert me.
GLOSSARY
Tournaments or tourneys are a mock competition to showcase the competitors’ prowess and are popular entertainment. The nobility would hold these at any opportunity, including weddings, births, baptisms, conquests, alliances, welcoming ambassadors or other people of note, etc. The final victor is awarded a prize or money. Prizes consisted of jewelry, weapons, armor, a falcon, or a horse. They could be withdrawn if a horse was struck, an opponent was hit in the back, or if one of the competitors had collided into the tilt three times.
In the early Middle Ages, the victor would also claim the weapons and armor of their defeated opponent, claimed by a knight’s squire known as a kipper. The kipper would often have to beat the reluctant knight with a heavy club in order to incapacitate him and retrieve the spoils of combat.
Competitors with criminal backgrounds or poor reputations were banned from competing and knights were made to prove their lineage to take part by displaying their family’s coat of arms on the shield, surcoat, and horse’s coat became the done thing. Sometimes the competitors would also have to pay a fee to the monarch before the event to participate, and were advised to do so before setting up. Saddles had higher backs, armor was heavier, and breastplates came with lance rests to provide extra stability. Removing one’s helmet was a sign that a knight did not wish to continue.
Jousting is one of many, hastiludes, or martial game, and is fought on horseback with blunted wooden lances, though swords were also used. During the High Middle Ages, jousts would continue on foot after both competitors had been unhorsed, with various weapons used, or were sometimes even fought in groups. This changed with the rise of chivalry when tournaments became more regulated. Though it is considerably less lethal, up to 10% of competitors could be injured or killed.
The joust a plaisance is series of elimination jousts taking place over the course of several days, where an overall victor would be determined. Each competitor would run the tilts three times with each opponent.
The pas d'armes, or passage of arms, was when a knight, or tenan, stationed himself at a designated location, such as a bridge or city gate, and proclaimed that any other knight who wished to pass must first fight, or be disgraced. If the challenged knight, or venan, had no horse or weapon, they must be provided with them. If they refused, the knight would surrender his spurs as a sign of humiliation. Should a lady pass through she would leave behind a glove or scarf, to be rescued and returned to her by a future knight who passed along the same way.
Tiltyards are the enclosed courtyard where a joust takes place and were built within the walls of castles and palaces. They were rectangularly shaped and spread with sand or straw, with the length of the field ranging from 100-200 meter/110-220 yards. Tiltyards were also used for training, most often with quintains. Earlier versions would have been called a list or list field and would have been roped off.
Henry VIII’s tiltyard included towers and could seat 10-12,000 spectators. Spectators could watch from the stands, pavilions, balconies, and tents. The grandstand which housed the nobles who were spectating the jousting tournament is called the berfrois.
Tilts are the barriers within the tiltyard, on either side of which the joust competitors are located. Originally made from cloth they were later built out of timber. As time passed, these structures were referred to as tilt barriers, while the joust itself was called a tilt/tilting.
Atteint is a common term used to determine a hit in a joust.
A lady’s favor was given by a noblewoman to her chosen champion in a display of courtly love. Favors could range from detachable sleeves, handkerchiefs, ribbons, scarves, veils, to even floral wreaths. These could either be proudly left fluttering when tied to a knight’s weapon or armor, but could also be tucked privately away.
THE JOUST
Competitors used to aim for vulnerable places such as the chest, throat, or helmet to knock their opponent off their horse. Later jousts instead changed the objective to specifically shattering their lance or hitting the shield of the opponent. In the early 15th century, mechanical shields that shatter when struck became popular as well. Shattering lances were also a safety feature, with a knight’s squire providing replacements, usually three, and were used as a point system.
The best horse to bring was a strong warhorse, tended to by a knight’s groom in his tent. In a display of pageantry, horses would be outfitted in caparisons featuring its owner’s heraldic crests, as well as armor to prevent any potentially lethal injuries.
Competitors could also challenge each other in a variety of ways:
Joust á Plaisance, for pleasure or of peace, was a peaceful joust utilizing the barriers, special armor, and lances tipped with coronels.
Joust à la guerre, as in war, and the Joust á Outrance, as in attack to excess, were meant to imitate war. Lances had sharp tips rather than coronels. To joust á outrance is to joust to the death.
Joust at Large, as in at random, were similar to the à la guerre but did not have a barrier. Once the lances had been used, the combatants would remove their reinforcing plates and turn to blunt swords. It is akin to the mounted melee and would continue on foot after the competitors had been unhorsed.
Very handy resource 💜
how does being punched in the face feel like
literally i just wanna know
It depends on where you get hit
Cheek: a round dull pain that clocks your entire head in a different direction. It’s painful and throbs but the main effect of a punch to the cheek is how jarring it is. You feel it in your mouth, your teeth. And no matter how you position that punch the knuckles will always hit the jaw and cheek bones adding a frame of sharp pain in which the redness will be painted.
Temple: getting hit on the temple pushes your head to the side rather than turning it. It’s disorienting because it leaves you very off balance. It essentially feels like a bad pressure headache, like when you have a sinus infection on a plane, but in one spot and on the outside. It’s sharp in the middle and radiates outward and even after the initial impact it pulses like an earthquake epicenter. It easily causes long lasting headaches and is the most likely of these examples to cause a concussion.
Eye: this is a weird one. The fist doesn’t fit within the eye socket so either the knuckles on the brow and cheeks bones protect the actual eye or they don’t. The former option gives a full spreading pain below the eye which results in the classic black eye look and a sharp pain on your brow similar to hitting your shin on the couch. The latter option, well bad things can happen when a hard fast object makes direct contact with your eye but for the sake of this it feels like a vacuum bc the concave shape is being covered and pressurized. The eye feels pushed back and pulled forward all at once. It doesn’t necessarily hurt that bad for that long unless the punch was meant to do damage. I’m fortunate to say I don’t know what it would feel like then.
Nose: remember that prank kids used to pull where they’d line up their hands with their nose, push them in one direction and crack a knuckle at the same time to pretend to break their nose? Yeah that’s what it looks like when someone punches you from the side in the nose, except it’s someone else’s hand and your nose makes the sound instead of their knuckle. It’s just like breaking any bone where you hear it and feel the action if it being done but that moment of shock blankets you for a split second until all the pain comes rushing back. It’s sharp and needlelike and can give you black eyes just to add insult to injury. If you get hit in the nose from the front it’s like the uncomfortableness of when you have to sneeze but can’t. Except that feeling took all the steroids and is now using your face as a punching bag to express its roid rage. It crackles outward like static electricity under your skin, your eyesight gets fuzzy and you can’t tell if it’s because you’re tearing up, it’s hard to open your eyes, or you’re momentarily stunned and blinded. Just know it’s all three. I find that this one knocks the wind out of you the most. Gotta remind yourself to breathe just don’t try to do it through your nose.
If you really want to know what this feels like I’d suggest joining a mixed martial arts because they’ll teach you correct form and power distribution and you can spar with pads and actually hit each other.
I’d also recommend learning what it feels like to punch someone in the face. It’s much more fun and pretty damn cathartic when they deserve it.
i was just being stupid but these descriptions are actually so well written i could feel them lmao bless
Well, thanks for “being stupid,” because this is a great ref for writers.

Writer's Guide: Guns
I'm not the biggest fan of guns but I need them in my new WIP. Guns are probably one of the most used tools within most medias, besides being one of the most misused tools. So how can we write them? (my other post on guns focuses on the damage guns can do to a body so go there if that's what your looking for)
Part of a Gun
Action: The action is the brain of the gun. It is the part where you load, fire and eject the casings.
Stock: The stock is the handle of the gun. It is made up of the butt and the fore-end.
Barrel: The Barrel is the nose of the gun, the point where the bullets are fired from. Once a bullet is fired, it travels through the barrel and out the muzzle.
Muzzle: the muzzle is the hole the bullet exit from.
Bore: The bore is the inside of the barrel
Cylinder: The Cylinder holds the rounds in a revolver. It rotates as the gun is fired, pumping bullets into the chamber.
Grip: The Grip is where you hold gun.
Hammer: The Hammer on a revolver is a pin like instrument that strikes the primer which fires the bullet from the gun.
Clip: An clip stores the rounds of ammunition on a single line-like device that can be placed into magazine.
Magazine: The Magazine is a container that is spring activated, which can be detachable of fixed. It holds cartridges for a repeating firearm.
Trigger: The Trigger is what you pull yo fire the gun
Trigger Guard: The trigger guard is the loop that fits in front of the trigger to shield it from accidental firing.
Ammunition
Bullet: is the projectile that exits the gun.
Cartridges/Shell: This is the case, primer, propellant and projectile (bullet). The bullet sits in the cartridge case.
Shotshell: Are rounds of shotgun ammunition, containing pellets rather than a bullet.
Gun Safety
1. Keep the muzzle pointed downwards (not near your feet or others) when not using the gun.
2. Unload gun when not in use
3. Always check the safety.
4. Be sure of your aim. Don't fire blindly because you'll end up wasting bullets and you might hurt somebody
5. If the gun is jammed, don't look down the barrel to see why it's blocked. Point it away from you, open the action and remove the blockage safely.
6. Keep your barrel clean. Any excess cleaning fluid even dirt can mess up your shot or even cause blockages that can burst the barrel
7. Don't alter your gun in any way on your own. Even if you're a self proclaimed expert, don't touch the gun. You can fuck up the intergrity of the weapon.
How to Hold a Handgun
1. Your dominant hand should grip the gun, high along the back strap (back of grip). This will give you better leverage and handle the recoil better.
2. Place your other hand against the other side of the grip. Four fingers should sit snugly under the trigger, while your index finger should rest against the trigger itself.
How to Hande a Rifle/Long barrelled Gun
Hold the rifle with two hands, hold the grip of the rifle with your dominant hand. Your fingers should wrap about the base of the rifle, under the trigger guard.
Your non-dominant hand should be wrapped firmly around the base of the grip. Holding the gun right will help reduce recoil and ensure better control.
How to fire a Gun
Align your sights. Your gun has a sight at the front and at the rear. Aim and align your sights through these points. There should be equal space between the sights.
Set your sight. When you’re aiming a gun, you’re you are looking through the front sight, the rear sight, and your target. When you're aiming at the target, it will look blurry. The sights should but clear.
Press rather than pull the trigger. You should squeeze it, applying constant pressure until the weapon fires.
Things every Writer should know about Guns
Hollow Point Bullets are not more deadly than full metal jacket bullets. Though a hollow point will cause damage, full metal bullets are actually more likely to over-penetrate and move when with the flesh, causing a more devastating wound.
Guns are really loud. How loud exactly? Most heavy duty guns could cause hearing loss. It simply isn't possible for two characters to have a lovely chat while firing weapons.
Rifles with scopes make it easier to shoot but they won't make a beginner a sudden genius marksman. Scopes help but they don't perform miracles.
Shotguns shoot shells not bullets.
Your character should not tuck a just fired handgun into their waistband or else they will get a nasty burn.
Silencers or better yet, suppressors do not silence your shots. They actually lower the sound by a few decibels.
Don't have your character fire gun sideways. They will fuck up their wrist and look stupid while doing it.
Most rifles and shotguns aren't pump action
If you drop your gun, if won't fire itself.
The clip and magazine are two different things. They can't be used as synonyms.
When somebody is shot, they don't go flying back. They crumple on the spot.
The exit wound of a bullet is larger than the entry point.
Most beginners will have trouble with recoil. Bloody noses and black eyes are common is one doesn't know what their doing.

A series of live readings for a handful of boy’s love novels I have been meaning to read or continue for months…might as well motivate myself with some halfway decent graphics and (attempted) book blurbs!
If you’re interested in LGBT+ Asian-inspired fantasy, I highly recommend delving into the world of Chinese web novels. Many dedicated fans pick these up for translation on the bird app and they are literally everything I always look for in Asian-inspired fantasy but never find, probably due to the publishing industry’s idea of what counts as “marketable”.
They all are, of course, #OwnVoices and written by authors who are pretty well-versed or do their research on the history, philosophy, and literature their characters consume. As a result, characters never feel like they don’t at least belong in their world - it’s reflected in their speech, mannerisms, values, etc. The natural integration of a common canon of Chinese poetry, philosophy, and values is particularly valuable and difficult to write if you haven’t been raised learning all of that history in school and absorbing it from the culture you live in.
Genre Notes: • Wuxia = martial arts fantasy, no supernatural elements • Xianxia = “cultivation” novels, a mix of fantasy and martial arts wherein characters usually aim to cultivate spiritual energy to reach immortality • Xuanhan = fantasy, may have cultivation, but also encompasses more supernatural elements including the heavens/gods
All of these have m/m romance, some more heavily than others. Warnings are not complete, will be updated as I progress through the stories. None of these are too bad though, except for a certain scene in Invitation to Wine.
Faraway Wanderers / Tianyake / 天涯客
A tired ex-spy wants to live out his remaining days in leisure but ends up involved in a chaotic series of events along with the other lead character, a playboy martial artist, and some ducklings (children) tagging along. Author: priest Genre: Wuxia, Action/Adventure Warnings: Mild gore
Nan Chan / 南禅
The story of a fish that cultivated to gain a human form and an immortal with amnesia, who committed a serious crime and was cast from the heavens for it. Together, they go on a quest that will take them through the “eight sufferings” (birth, death, old age, sickness, partings with loved ones, encounters with enemies, unfulfilled wishes, and the inability to let go) and uncover a mystery in the heavens.
Author: Tang Jiuqing Genre: Supernatural, Xuanhuan
To Rule in a Turbulent World / Luan Shi Wei Wang / 乱世为王
The spoiled son of a wealthy tea merchant acquires a loyal slave who supports him when he is down on his luck and cast out by his father, having to renovate the old estate his mother left to him. Later, he goes to take the imperial examinations and war breaks out when the “barbarian” tribes from the north attack. Ultimately, a story of growing up in a turbulent era.
Author: Fei Tian Ye Xiang Genre: Historical, Wuxia, Action/Adventure, Slice of Life Warnings: War violence, explicit sex, underage sex
Liu Yao: The Revitalization of Fu Yao Sect / 六爻
A boy is taken in by the eccentric master of a rundown cultivation sect comprised of kids. Later, tragedy strikes after leaving their mountain home and they must find their way back – uncovering the secrets of their sect and proving themselves against a world that mocks them.

Invitation to Wine / Qiang Jin Jiu / 将进酒

Have you read yuwu? I've been thinking about giving it a shot, but I was wondering does it happen before, after or during the events in 2ha?
Yes, I read Yuwu (human tl in another language). I like it quite a lot actually, but it might not be to everyone’s taste. It takes place 1000 years before 2Ha, in a darker, more cruel world (same universe). The main trope is childhood friends to friends with benefits to enemies to lovers.
The current Eng tl updates very regularly and has warnings in the beginning if you’d like to check it out.
2Ha is like, several root canals interrupted by sweet candy.
Yuwu is constant toothache without any relief for 196 chapters.
Chapters 1-34: https://shizun.moe/yuwu/
Chapters 35+: https://t.co/JvkSXAK9D7?amp=1
Imagine if every major character in SV was a transmigrator - except no one knows what the others are bc system and ooc rules lol. and literally everyone is like wtf's going on most of the time.

Yue QingYuan: Fukk I’m the tragic childhood friend why can’t I be someone else instead? Couldn’t I just be Mu QingFang, at least he doesn’t need to juggle the responsibilities of being the Sect Leader and trying to care for a troublesome childhood friend??
Liu QingGe: Check the reader!LQG tag lmao
Mu QingFang: Oh no. I’m not good with all these medical stuff, these people are so gonna die. Oh no. Is that blood? God please no I’m gonna faint —
Qi QingQi: Oooooh nice I’m a beautiful lady!! A badass queen too!!! But how am I supposed to act as a Peak Lord? Wow everyone’s so pretty. Heck Liu QingGe’s about as pretty as the ladies here why oh god. I am intimidated by their beauty. But all the eye candy’s pretty nice.
ZhuZhi Lang: … Nooo I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die to protect my lord! But… TianLang Jun… is so good… yeah I think I’d gladly die for him after all lmao. Oh I’d totally die for Shen QingQiu too. … Do I really have to die?
TianLang Jun: Lololol this is so fun. Eyyy ZhuZhi Lang wanna read porn with me? Oh wow, look, my arm just came off! Lololololol. Wait I’m supposed to merge the two worlds? Naw that sounds so troublesome… Wait system no what are you doing don’t take my — Fine, fine, I’ll do it!
MoBei Jun: Whoa sick I’m the ice demon. Look! Ice powers!! Ain’t I awesome!!! *clears throat* I mean… Ahem. You never saw anything. Now get me some ice cream.
