i feel like the real main problem with genAI is the wrecking of the environment tbh. and the capitalism but that kind of goes hand in hand if you think about it. but like. i don't get the "it makes you stupiddd!!!" crowd because. like. it's destroying whole lakes. the lakes. like. the environment doesn't need this right now or ever

The thing is, even criticizing those aspects outside a larger criticism of capitalism and its general influence on the environment misses the point in my opinion. AI isn't uniquely destroying the environment, or people's quality of life - all of the dangerous tendencies that the AI boom has been escalating and accommodating in concerning ways existed before AI and exist in a much larger societal context than the one surrounding AI. I agree that the way AI has escalated many of these problems is really worrying and dangerous and I'm not saying you're wrong to point that out, but simply removing AI from the picture wouldn't fundamentally resolve the destructive powers of capitalism.
