Introducing the OCS!
Violet: she's the leader of the Memento Mori coven. She is like 16? And so aloof that no one really knows where she is at any given time. She's one of the oldest vampires in my universe, she was turned during the great depression, lived with a coven for a time before running away and eventually forming her own. Violet now is actively suicidal, planning to take Memento Mori into a war for more land when she knows its a bad idea but she just doesn't care.
Salem: he is second in command in Memento Mori, his official title is High Nobility. 99% of the time he's the guy you're looking up to if you're in this coven. He was made a vampire in the early 2000s after he was leaving a party drunk one night and a rogue vampire turned him. He basically takes over Violets role in makibg decisions for the coven- hes the president, she's the queen type deal. Salem adopted a son named Matthew. By adopted I mean he killed Matthews mortal family when Matthew was a baby and then decided to raise him himself inside the coven. Matthew and Salem hate each other and Salem eventually disowns Matthew for being "too weak".
Matthew: Matthew was at one point in his life set up to be Nobility in Memento Mori. Now because he was disowned by his father he is considered a commoner. He is book smart, anxious, and an overthinker. He's constantly being used as an example of what not to be. He hates Memento Mori because he can see through their lies. But leaving would basically be a death sentence for him. So he stays.
Mordecai: my baby. My blorbo. He's somewhat like Matthews Brother but he's originally from an allied coven called Caracalla. He was also raised from a mortal baby and made a vampire when he was an adult. but unlike Matthew he is extremely devoted to his coven and views vampire life as a blessing where Matthew sees it as a curse. When mordecai grew up he decided to go live in Memento Mori where he earns the status "protected nobility" so his opinions instantly mattered more than Matthews. Also he's profane, hedonistic, sadistic, and overall a huge brat. He always gets what he wants. He has a wonderful relationship with his father back in Caracalla. he spent most of his childhood years bullying Matthew. The two are the biggest of enemies.
Xavier: Xavier is my beloved trans guy character who falls in love with Mordecai. When Violet decides that she's going to have a war she demands that a bunch of new vampires are turned and in that first wave was Xavier. He pretty much instantly caves to coven propaganda as they frame Memento Mori sort of like a utopian society... Minus the killing and the suicide missions. Xavier is culturally Jewish, he famously loves knives. He's a goofball.
Endi: so I can never fully settle on if I want Endicott (Endi) to be canon or not. Anyways he is Mordecai and Xavier's biological child. He is born a human, but from childhood he starts having prophetic visions and speaking in Nelthyet even though he had never been taught it. The story remains open ended about whether or not the visions are real or if they're something mental, but he scares the others with forbidden knowledge and eerie predictions. Here's a member of Memento Mori of course as both of his fathers are.
Piper: Piper is another one of the coven members who is turned to plan for war. She's quiet, anxious and at first rather unremarkable except for the fact that she is incredibly good at telepathy. All vampires can learn to fly, use telepathy and mind control- but Piper was instantly able to do it from day 1. She likes horses, nature, and tarot. She had her head shaved when joining Memento Mori as an experimental way to see if they might make her lose her sense of identity faster.
Palmer: next we have our first Nightshade member! The nightshade coven consists of young reckless teens and young adults who were made vampires. All nightshade members wear coyote tails pinned to their pants to represent a sort of animal nature and coven loyalty. Palmer is the motherly witchy pack mom. She is kindhearted, gentle, and nurturing. Members regularly go to her for advice and healing from emotional wounds. She starts dating the leader of nightshade named Eris. She finds herself at home amidst the chaos and hedonism of Nightshade.
Anubis: Anubis is another Nightshade member! You may be asking "why is he named after a god?" And the answer is that every person in nightshade changes their name after they are turned. In this coven it's pivotal that no one knows your real name, and it's considered an insult to be called the name you were when you were alive. He chose Anubis because he liked it. Anubis is a sweetheart, an optimist, a little bit of a philosopher type. He also has the ability to control fire. Some vampires randomly have abilities that others are incapable of learning and Anubis just happened to be one! When he was alive he had a sister and he struggles with missing her knowing that whoever turned him almost certainly killed her.
