wintergreenacademia’s subpar opera reviews
(All of these have been streamed through the met)
Carmen: the first opera I saw! Fabulous orchestra, pretty good storyline. Best parts are toreador song and the part where carmens friends are doing their tarot cards. 4/5.
La traviata: my favourite opera. Alfredo and Violetta’s romance is SO DAMN CUTE. Best parts are hide-and seek and un dì felice eterea. Point taken off only because she takes too long to die but that seems to be a big thing in opera. 4.5/5.
Rigoletto: pretty good. Pissed me off a lot though because the duke never got what was coming to him. 3/5.
La bohème: in my opinion, the main storyline was boring. It’s nothing you’ve never seen before if it’s not your first opera. HOWEVER. Musetta is my dream role and all the stars are for her. 3/5.
Mariage de figaro: uhh pretty good but I wanted countess to end up with cherubino :(. Refreshing though because it’s not a tragedy. 3.5/5.
Faust: Faust is the WILDEST trip I’ve ever been on. I appreciated how marguerite goes batshit but in the beginning it’s really slow. 4/5.
Manon: Almost my favourite. I say almost because Manon pissed me off in act three and four but overall suuuuper good. The love story is so real to me and the chevalier is just. Perfection. Ugh yes 4.5/5.
(Incomplete list:))
