A couple of cards from my favorite movie on my favorite holiday.
“Why is Kaima attacking? We’ve done nothing wrong!”
The shouting naga monk fled, just as the boar-shaped spirit in question trampled another nearby house. Even with Kaima on the warpath through the peaceful village, the monk still barged into one of the few intact buildings, and slithered to a stop amid an indoor shrine.
“Hama! It’s time to leave!”
“One moment, Mister Shigeki!” a cheerful, elderly voice replied from the back. “I’m just finishing up these last few-”
But before Hama could even appear, Kaima burst through the front door, and wall as well. Part of the roof collapsed, narrowly avoiding both Shigeki and the shrine. There it stood, fury glowing in its eyes, and the veins of light that crisscrossed its body.
“Hama…” Shigeki pulled a blade from his robes. “Never mind. Stay back there.”
But it was too late. A second, more elderly naga appeared from the back room. She regarded Kaima not with fear, but merely surprise.
“Oh! Kaima. What an unexpected surprise. Have we disturbed nature somehow…”
Kaima took one thunderous step closer.
“…in our very small, very self-sustaining village? Where spirit and mortal realms merge?”
Kaima paused, confused.
“Well, of course! Surely we are worse than the megacities! Worse than the corporations and their factories!”
To Shigeki’s utmost surprise, Kaima took an awkward step backward.
“Unless, of course, you were…merely looking for an easy rampage?”
Kaima shook its head, before quickly retreating through the hole it had made. This left Shigeki staring at his elder in disbelief, and earning a knowing smirk for his trouble.
“What was that?” hissed the younger monk.
“It was…an unfortunate truth,” Hama sighed, tiredly. “Modern methods of fighting have become so good, as to repel the spirits themselves. So, the reckonings don’t happen where they are needed.”
“They happen out here. Where they can at least get a few licks in,” Shigeki gasped in realization.
“They too get frustrated at the state of the world. And so they lash out…”
[I know the hallmark of nature spirits is to lash out whenever there’s a disturbance. But given the cyberpunk setting for NEO, I doubt that that more traditional village in Kaima’s art is anywhere near the worst offender! Also, goading doesn’t really work on mana dorks!]

Got inspired to try and make magic cards out of Deltarune characters, here’s the first!
Back at it again! This time I've finally stopped playing Deltarune long enough to make these.
I wanted to lean into the whole different route aspect of Deltarune (and Undertale). Normally I'm very against white = good / black = bad, but it seems to work for the player's intention behind each route.
I intentionally didn't add a gradient to the set symbol because if Marvel can get away with it, so can I.
As always, feedback is appreciated. I'm not 100% sure on the wording, costs, or even whether some of the abilities work in the colors.

In honor of the best bird at PAX East 2025: Chocobo, Awakened Inferno!
I'll be attending the Magic the Gathering Final Fantasy panel at PAX East, so my traditional liveblog will not be happening here. I'll be trying to do so on my Bluesky instead. Hope to see you there!
You may have read my words. Here are some more.
I know I said I wasn't going to show very much of it, but I've drawn more in my sketch book today than I have in the past, like, five months, so 👍
I wrote an article about the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct.
A post about my thoughts on the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct.
I'm not sure if this is the type of thing folks here would enjoy, but if so, I'll post some more.

Another season, another Wanderer promotion exclusive to Japan
THIS one, however, comes with its own music video!
The singer is Aoi Eir, and it's very cute.
Of course there are playmats and sleeves, this time with the Wanderer, Narset, Yoshimaru, and a little dude we saw recently:
The art is by fuzichoco, who's done a bit of work on the game already.
There's more at the official site:
WPN店舗で対象のプレイ・ブースターパックを6パックお買い上げごとに、短冊に入った『ちびキャラシール』をプレゼント。あたりのシールを引けば、その場でアクリルスタンドかプレイマット、スリーブと交換。
Makes me miss living in Japan.
Once upon a time there was a kingdom in the clouds.
The kingdom was ruled by wise monarchs for generations. They supported learning above all, and it was the most prosperous nation in all of history, in either direction.
The monarchs encouraged the kingdom's scholars, who made wonderful discoveries. They took care of the people of the planet below, who did not have the same gifts as those in the sky. And they hoped for an even greater future for all the people of the world.
In time, the hopes of the people in the sky became dreams, and they studied the dreams more than anything. Their crafters and smiths continued to create greater and greater wonders using discoveries found in the kingdom's dreams. And it was in these dreams that the first inkling that a power greater than even the sun was within reach.
The King of the kingdom in the clouds passed away, and his wife, a kind and powerful woman, took the throne. Her dreams revealed that the power was in the ocean far below her kingdom. She set her crafters to make their greatest wonder yet: a palace beneath the waves.
Dreams became reality.
Reality became a nightmare.
The people of the planet were forgotten or worse, and few people from the kingdom in the clouds thought to help them anymore. The people who worked on the palace beneath the waves became monstrous, forgetting who they were. The Queen harmed her people and her planet and her own children in pursuit of the new power. She became cold. Lost to her dreams. Lost to her own zeal.
The Princess was frightened of the woman her mother had become and fell into her own darkness. The Prince attempted to fix his broken family, but he was too late.
When the palace beneath the waves was completed, the Queen set out to take the power herself. She came face to face with a beast that fell from the stars, and had been slumbering under the center of the world for uncounted eons.
It awoke.
With a cry that shattered the heavens, the beast let forth an eruption of malice, furious at being disturbed. It destroyed the kingdom in the clouds, all of its history and achievements and dreams. The survivors were left without their homes and without their gifts. The people of the planet took them in and taught them their ways.
In time, the kingdom in the clouds was forgotten. The beast went back to sleep and slumbered under the center of the world once more.
