Tumblr you give me the anxieties but I like having a place to babble.
so I read lord of souls and the infernal city last winter and turns out theyâre pretty enjoyable
Skyrim build idea: lawful to a fault khajiit who is so obsessed with the letter of the law they end up doing a lot of damage. Extra interesting because they have to fight against stereotypes along the way
Travel Time in Skyrim
(reposting from my Hero story)
Hires Map | Hires Travel Days Map
I wanted to make a note about Skyrimâs geography. I donât recall where I found it, but someone else estimated that Skyrim was approximately the size of the country Poland. Early on when I started writing âHero by Mistakeâ, I calculated distances between landmarks by road travel, and plugging in the maximum distance a horse could travel in a day whether carrying a person or dragging a cart. I am putting this at 16 travel hours per day for Skyrimâs hardy horses â this is twice the max for Earthâs horses, so weâll blame this on magic, yes? Heh. I estimated how many travel days it would take to reach any given place, more or less. So, I estimated that horse-travel days by road from Whiterun to Windhelm would be about three (in Polish terms, this would be approximately from Bialystok to Lodz). Windhelm to Riften would be about four days byhorse or cart (approximately Bialystok to Rzeszow). Double that time if youâre walking. I donât know how accurate my calculations are, but at least theyâre more accurate than in-game travel!
An easy guide is using the above map of Skyrim. Diagonally, each grid square is one travel day by horse/cart, 1.5-2 days foot travel. If you want to âpushâ travel time (say, you need to get somewhere RIGHT NOW, extend beyond the grid square slightly). I tried to account for easier road travel, and more difficult travel across rough terrain.
Travelers might make use of landmarks for camp sites, such as huts and monuments. So for instance, one horse travel day could be between Rorikstead and Swindlerâs Den, between Karthwasten and Sky Haven Temple, between Ivarstead and Frokiâs Shack, or between Morthal and Meekoâs Shack. These distances would be about 2 days of foot travel at the very least.Â
Comparisons
312 kilometers (aka Windhelm to Whiterun)
Horse travel: 3 days, 16 hours per day, 6-7Â km/h, 48 hours total
Fit foot travel: 8 days, 8 hours per day, 4-5Â km/h, 66 hours total
Child/family/unfit foot travel: 30-50 days, 3-5 hours per day, 2-3Â km/h, 104-156 hours total
Example Calculations
Windhelm to Whiterun
Northern Path: Windhelm stables, Nightgate Inn, Lorcius Farm, Whiterun stables - three horse travel days
Southern Path: Windhelm stables, camp across the river from Cronvangr Cave, cross the river at Mixwater Mill, kill bandits at Valtheim Towers and camp there, camp in or near Stormcloak camp, Whiterun stables - four horse travel days
Windhelm to Riften
Windhelm stables, Kynesgrove, camp near Mzulft or Imperial camp, Shorâs Stone, Riften stables - four horse travel days
Whiterun to Solitude
Northern Path (avoiding Labyrinthian): Whiterun stables, Lorcius Farm, Fort Dunstad, Stonehills mine, Morthal, Meekoâs shack, Dragon Bridge, Katlaâs Farm (Solitude stables) - seven horse travel days
Western Path: Whiterun stables, Fort Greymoor, Hamvirâs Rest, Labyrinthian, Morthal, Meekoâs shack, Dragon Bridge, Katlaâs Farm (Solitude stables) - six horse travel days (not overnighting in Labyrinthian)
Winterhold to Windhelm
Winterhold, camp near Stillborn Cave, camp near Forsaken Cave, Windhelm stables - three horse travel days

"WE WERE ON A DRAGON BREAK!"
Dawnguard Heavy Armor by DoubleZeroFX
Did You Know: One of the enchantments on Oblivionâs version of the Mace of Molag Bal was âAbsorb Strength 5pts for 0 secsâ? Because of the zero second duration, this enchantment did nothing.
Useless, just like moldy balls
Did You Know: The author Ahrtabazus controversially claimed that elves were a type of faerie? He claimed they would fit into his Faerie Chain, a hierarchical organization of the fae, ranking above whilloki (pixies, the lowest ranking of the fae), but below nephrine.
Indeed? Very well.
The Fae are some of the most common creatures in Tamriel, indeed scholarly opinion considers man and elf to have a place among Fairykin. Letâs begin with the lowest Fae:
Sprites
One of the lowest of the Fae, a Sprite is usually seen as a mysterious energy, a floating ball of light, an odd force compelling you somewhere. If the Will-o-the-Wisp is a sprite, they can even be a hostile and deadly force (studies into wisps are sadly lackluster at this time). However, they have been specifically noted to be âadventurousâ, luring people to quests.
Pixes (Whilloki)
Described as âGlimmering Sparks/Whimsical Prankstersâ, the Pixie is a lower form of Faerie. That one looks like a Fire Atronach, which raises questions about the Fae and the Daedra that I sadly cannot answer.
SylphimÂ
Little is known about the Sylphim, although they are often spotted alongside higher Fae.
Nixad
A Nixad is an insect-like creature, noted to live in forests and glades. Nixads are noted for stealing valuables and sweets, and shocking people to make their hair stand on end. However, they are also noted for helping adventurers by lighting their path in the darkest corners of Tamriel, multiple forms of Nixad are even noted to be friendly and willing to form lasting companionships.
Elf (Mer)
This is where the elves would roughly rank. Elves are most usually noted to have lengthy lifespans, pointed ears, low fertility, although these traits are not necessarily going to be present in each type of Elf.
Nephrine
Very little is known about the Nephrine, except the specific detail of them ranking over Elves.
Nymph
Considered to be some of the most beautiful creatures in Tamriel, scholarly research into their kind was limited by a sense of lack of seriousness among their kind. Conventional research is generally limited to noting their indiscriminate sexual practices, aversion to clothing, and are noted for their melodious, song-like language. The few records on the creatures can be best described as âpornographicâ. A nonconventional approach by Vondham Barres had him break against the formed image of the Nymph, claiming the creatures were shy, immortal, yet approachable and wise.
Human
Ranking in the middle are humans themselves, roughly all humanoids would find themselves here (we donât have the formal rankings, so the order for this section is more arbitrary). As you are a human yourself, I shall not spend more effort on them at this time. Note that âintelligent trees, brooks, rocks, and mountainsâ are ranked after this point as higher Fae.
Spriggan
Spriggans, natureâs guardians, are the extremely zealous protectors of our world. Thankfully, some Spriggans will focus on a particular site over attacking wanderers, and are a rare sight in populated locations. Spriggans can be communicated with, and even convinced to let travelers pass unharassed. Their relationship to the rest of Fairykin is sadly, poorly understood.
Nereid
It is unknown if a Nereid is truly a type of Fairykin. They might have some relation to sprites, based on some tales, but that is purely conjecture.
Ilyadi, Gheatus, Chonus, and Sygria
At this level, virtually nothing substantial is known. Chonus and Sygria are noted to keep lower fae as hanger-ons. Gheateus and Illyadi were powerful and mighty beings of the early days of the Summerset Isles, both kinds are believed to have been exterminated by the elven population.

So hereâs a theory Iâve had for Skyrim for a long time and am now sharing with the community.
So Elisif has taken a backseat to the civil war, as far as its seen. Which of course has earned her some disdain from the fanbase over the years. But as I thought it, the more I realized somethings.
Why is there so much push for Elisif to become High Queen? Yes she was married to Torygg, she holds no right to the throne. Yes you can elect a High King/Queen, but it seemed like it was a family thing for Torygg.
And even more so, why is she the only Jarl who keeps her title if the Stormcloaks DO take over? You ever notice that? Or the fact she seems more worried over the loss of her claim to the throne rather than anger towards the Dragonborn like all other Jarls you overthrow?
And then it hit me.
Holy shit, Elisif is pregnant.
Think about it, sheâs always marked as essential, Falk handles most of the problems that come into her court. General Tullius is taking control of the war as to not stress her out. And carrying the deceased High Kingâs child would obviously make her more of a High King/Queen candidate than just being the former High Kingâs widow.
Who knows, maybe this theory will get confirmed in TES6

Nibani Maesa, the Ashlander Wise Woman who helps you with the Nerevarine prophecies in Morrowind. I'm a sucker for wise women characters anyway but she is just my rock. I would go back to her whenever the plot advanced and just like, hang out while I got my thoughts together.
Do you think Khajiit get the zoomies like normal cats do? do you think a khajiit will get up at like 2 am and their spouse is like âbabe everything ok?â and their just like âyeah this one just has to run like 4 miles right now.â
youâre just having a normal conversation with a khajiit and suddenly their pupils dialate as they enter the Silly Zone

i know iâve been ranting about this but anyway! if you happen to be a fanfic reader and want to help the problem the TES fandom has where fanfic writers just burn out immediately upon putting effort into anythingÂ
comment on ficsÂ
seriously, comment on fics, even if itâs something as short as âdouble kudos!â or saying the part of the chapter you liked most, or if on tumblr tagging âomg!!â in your reblog. this is the lifeblood of fanfic authors and they WILL go back to reread it 20 times
ask questions! whatever lore the author introduced, they probably care a lot about it, so if anything caught your eye definitely go ask them to elaborate or share additional headcanons
share your own headcanons with the author
strike up a friendship with the author based on shared headcanons and a love for the series
reblog the things you like, preferably with fond comments in the tags
if you do any one of these, you WILL make someones day, i promise you
morrowind fanfic is a thankless endeavour but it doesnât have to be! if you enjoy someoneâs content, let them know!Â
