I feel really super lucky that I've only had good experiences with random dungeon groups on group finders. There was even one I'd never done before where me and another person were fucking up the mechanics of the last boss and we ended up wiping the group and I thought for sure I was going to get kicked but the group leader just sat back and explained it to us and then we went again and nailed it. I forget their username but god bless them for being patient and willing to try again instead of booting us

Thats awesome!! and I'm very glad to hear!! Like I said I know not everyone doing these kinds of dungeons is an asshole and I'm sure theres many kind people doing them, but I think that mine and many others experiences have been not particularly kind lol.

Not that anyone asked my opinion, but part of the dead Tesblr thing to me comes down to

A. I think very broadly this is not the ideal fandom spawning kind of franchise in many way, largely because of how flat the vast majority of characters are. Not that there aren't great characters but theres just not many per game, and I'd argue the main character of these games is the world itself, which is extremely freaking cool but not always conducive to fandom.

The series also lends itself to be oc heavy, which while that is extremely fun and cool, is also not the easiest to build a fandom on especially combined with the lack of really rounded characters to interact with

And B. Nothing is happening in the franchise really. Which is not something that is required persay? But tes is in a sort of unique position in that the next main line game got announced *way* to early, so hype for that has come and gone, and then the things that Bethesda has done since the last mainline tes game have been,,,I'll say mixed to be kind. So I feel like thats kind of all ended in a wet fart

Eso is of course still doing stuff, but, and this is coming from someone who does like the game, it's also not doing stuff that is amazingly exciting and cool in a way that drums up fandom. Not to mention that the higher level play stuff is real difficult to get into and to be 100% frank the people in it can be kind of mean. So that's also a bit of a deterrent to say the least.

In general it is a little sad because it was so active for a while but I kinda see why people left

#skooma rambles #tesblr #i have never been concise a day in my life and i will not start now #my tag is rambles for a reason #also to add a little on that last point about eso end game people being mean #obviously not all of the people in it are #but this is a mmo that is very heavily appealing to people who like to play alone a lot of the time and it is ON PUPOSE #so when one decides to go try something like say a dungeon theyre met with people rushing through it #not giving them a chance to do the quest sometimes kicking them if they explain theyre doing the quest #getting kicked without explanation if they dont get the mechanics right away or arnt able to oneshot everything on the screen #and then sometimes theyres being told off lile theyre the rude ones when theyre litterally just trying to dip their toes in water #all of this not on veteran mode #join guilds i hear you cry talk with people who will help #as though if youre just trying to see if dungeons are for you you wouldnt just use the sigficantly easier group finder #this is not just a unique to me experience btw parts of this happened to me but ive seen this echoed a lot #anyway thats just my gripes with eso specifically so i thought itd be better for tags then the main post #also for those curious on the mixed to be kind point #fallout 4 is ok but much more shallow then every other game in the series #fallout 76 im told has improved but still doesn't seem great and the launch was a disaster #and starfield has made a net 0 cultural impact and ive seen very few people actually excited to play it

could an MMO be built with an explicit direction to shun metagaming. what if you sent a cease-and-desist to any attempt at a wiki or datamining resource. could we rely on the playerbase to be annoying enough to pressure each other not to peek at information online. looking up a loot table or a dungeon map should be regarded as an infraction on the level of wallhacking

so i have finished a psychological thriller novel, and have begun the process of doing research so i can prepare to query agents. now, my novel has some pretty intense triggers in it, so i am aware it’s a bit of a hard sell– that being said, many agents have a “do not send me your novel if it has these things” list, so that’s what I’m looking for so i don’t accidentally trigger someone.

so i’m going down this list, and i find this agent. their “do not send me” list includes the following: non-consent/sexual violence, age gaps, teacher/student relationships, stalkers, cheating, everyone dies at the end, miscarriage/pregnancy, and abuse masked as love.

okay, cool! everyone has different tolerances for stuff, and it’s perfectly reasonable to not want to be involved with a story that has stuff you’re uncomfortable with. not the agent for me, but good on them for defining their boundaries.

but then i scroll back up and they’re requesting for gothic horror.
