I'm a painter in a contemporary style with retro appeal-like. I create pieces of traditional art: realistic oil portraits, vintage look paintings, oil painting reproductions, figurative art. My art inspired by love of history, old photos, literature, good movies. I work with oil paints long ago, I'm used to the smell of diluent and I'm a bit old school. Most of my artworks made during the polar nights or days, in my tiny home studio in the little town, 130-odd miles north of the Arctic Circle.

“Portrait of Victorian Blond Man in a Black Suit with a Bow Tie”, oil painting on hardboard panel, 7"x5". 

This is a portrait of a blond-haired man with noble features and an intense expression of eyes, he seems a bit wary, with a hint of turbulence beneath his composed exterior. He reminds me of a character George Ashley Wilkes in Margaret Mitchell's novel Gone with the Wind despite the fact that this portrait is based loosely on a miniature by Henry Colton Shumway (American artist, 1807-1884).

I wanted to imply his ghostly pallor and a soft haze as though viewing the subject through the distance of time. I like the effect of the silvery light which allows the figure to merge with her natural surroundings.

I enjoy creating people from bygone eras, there is a haunting, soulful quality to them that transcends time. Big-eyed handsome young man with pale noble face depict in a black suit with a bow tie combined with the grayish of the background.

I love painting faces as that seems to be where I focus even when painting a figure. And I'm thinking it is eyes on the face this is what fascinates me the most. Ah, those dreamy, big green eyes of young nobleman from 19th century... The perfect art gift for any friend or relative who loves original art and old fashioned male portraits. I create all my paintings by hand in Up North, beside Scandinavia, in the little city middle of the mountains, which is 130-odd miles north of the Arctic Circle. This cute small thing made during one of the polar nights, by me (Netta) in my tiny studio, along with my gorgeous son Nick for cuddles and our black male cat Moore for purring. This small oil portrait took me about two days to create and I enjoyed every minute.

“Red-Haired Little Girl with Two Kittens”

As I have mentioned before a few times, I love painting kids and pets. The yellow-orange-green original oil painting, features hand paint depicts the little red-haired girl with two blue eye kittens that staring and meowing in her hands.

This is a portrait of little girl, inspired by a photo taken by unknown author nowadays. And yet I think that the girlie in this photo has grown up a long time ago and turned into a beautiful woman and maybe also into crazy cat lady. And I thought it would be fun to paint this little ginger girl with plump cheeks in new colors as though she had posed for me.  

Looking at this painting I get the impression that the girlie is from my childhood. But at the same time, for some reason I think she has Irish roots. I guess she is playful and fun because she has a kind smile and seems to be passionate about cats as I do.

She is outdoors in full sun, perhaps in a park or on the lawn in the yard of her house. I wanted to convey a sense of dazzling mid-day light. There's something spring-summer like about this little girl, she's winsome, with narrowed blue eyes peeking out from behind the pair little meowing kittens. I like the picture because the atmosphere is peaceful. The little red-haired girl in the painting is smiling because she loves cats. There's an childhood vibe...

Royal Portrait. Realistic Portrait of the last Russian Emperor, Nicholas II.

This is an original oil portrait of Emperor Nicholas II, the last Russian Tsar of the Romanov dynasty. He was second cousins-once-removed of the German Kaiser Wilhelm II and cousin of the British King George V. Blue eyed handsome  Emperor depict in a dark blue gold braided uniforms with the order of St. Vladimir on his chest combined with the pale pink-blue of the background. Shrouded in light pink-blue haze, this officer in the portrait recalls a long ago era of the Russian Empire.

As I have mentioned before a few times, portraits are an obsession of mine. I love painting faces as that seems to be where I focus even when painting a figure. And I'm thinking it is eyes on the face this is what fascinates me the most. Ah, those dreamy, dark blue eyes with a sly light...

By one of my educations I am a historian, focusing on the daily life of people. I love learning about the life which people lived a lot of centuries ago. As a kid, I dreamed of being a time traveler and imagined popping in and out of to a different time and place and life. My original oil pictures are inspired by my love of history, literature and a good movies.

“Young fisherman with a big catch on his back”

Portrait of this cute boy is based on an old black and white photo of the late 19th or early 20th centuries. This vintage photo, presumably taken in France, was used as a greeting postcard on the occasion of April 1. And I thought it would be fun to paint this boy with plump cheeks in new colors as though he had posed for me. I tried to capture something of his gentle childish naivety and purity, while maintaining a high degree of realism. I tried to paint with smooth, thin layers of paint and I wanted it has the look of a portrait sketch from the early 20th century.

A handsome smiling boy pulled a big fat fish out of the pond or the lake. It is a good fishing catch. Young angler seems cheerful and smug. The little fisherman goes home to show his big catch off to his family.

It is bright color-rich oil painting. The old-fashioned clothes and the red-brown background enhance the vintage, retro mood of this unique piece of handmade art. My uniquely painting is equally suitable for persons, who interested in original art, fishing and love pranking to those around them on April 1st. This is real original art, with permanent value.

Painted by hand in Up North behind polar circle near Scandinavia in the little town middle of the mountains, by me (Netta) in my tiny studio, along with my gorgeous son Nick and our black male cat Moore who is a big fan fish dishes. We are living in a great fishing area, on the Kola peninsula, between the Russian Barents Sea and the White Sea and local men fishing a lot. Probably, for this reason, I can say that the fishery topic is very close to me.

The artwork is framed from a framing professional. The plastic frame has the hanging hardware which suitable for the frame and rated for the weight of the picture. So you will be able to hang the painting right away!

This is an original oil portrait of the Imperial Russian Army officer in a white forage cap with a fluted-edge oval cockade. Blue eyed handsome chevalier guards depict In a greatcoat with a karakul fur collar combined with the pale violet-blue of the background. This is a portrait of a beautiful, blue eyed man with a grayish blue military uniform that has been never really worn by Russian Army officers. And the man himself did not exist, too, because this is a portrait of a literary character. Nevertheless shrouded in light blue haze, this officer of the Chevalier Guards in the portrait recalls a long ago era of the Russian Empire.

I enjoy creating people from bygone eras, there is a haunting, soulful quality to them that transcends time. Therefore, I wanted to concoct a man who looked like he could have posed for a painter a couple of centuries ago. I guess this portrait ended up being oddly timeless, both retro and contemporary at the same time.
