So Bellarke is going to be canon this episode and then have 30+ years of smutty dreams next to each other in the cryo pods because of course when they finally find out that they both want to bang, they can’t bang, but have to sleep instead...
Here are some of my thoughts about Bellarke in the finale and in this season as a whole. I don’t know who is going to read it, but I am really looking forward to the episode and wanted to write down my feelings/opinions - maybe they will help some of you to look at some things in this season differently. This fandom desperately needs more positivity, so let me be the fool who believes in canon today and is actually looking forward to it :)
For anyone who wants to keep their hopes down (great for you): for your own good, please don’t read :D There is no guarantee that BC will be canon.
I honestly don’t care about expectations, I enjoy Bellarke, I like speculating and will be ok even if they are still “platonic” (yeah right :D) today...
For the negative folks right now: yes, I get some of your frustration, but this post is also probably not for you... It is not about arguing whether some of the storylines this season could have been done better, dialogues written differently etc. I like the season and actually think it’s good for BC, so...
For all the brave hopeful Bellarke souls still out there:
Funny thing – the more negativity, frustration and doubt I see in the fandom, the more I think that we are going to get canon BC today and I will be brave enough to say - even a kiss or a tleast an almost kiss/something physical. I didn’t have that feeling in the previous seasons (never really expected they will go canon in 4x13 for example), I do now. And yeah, paradoxically the biggest reason WHY is that there was never a finale in which romantic BC seemed less likely at first glance:
There is only one episode left (40min) and a lot of story to be told/storylines to be finished - yes, this is the case in every finale
B/cho is still a thing - in all the other finales B & C were technically single
BC are still separated - they were reunited in 2x16 too, but were in a better place emotionally
BC are at their lowest point - the argument & the slap, betrayals, C leaving B and working with “the bad guys”...
That’s quite a lot of things that need to be resolved for them to become canon. Sure, we know that they will make up and end the episode together, probably discuss some issues, forgive each other, hug as always, but confess their love, kiss?? Nah, there were episodes in which they had more time, were closer... Even fans who were certain that this is our season are having doubts. And I believe that is a good thing.
Imagine you are a screenwriter who is writing this epic story about two soulmates and you are deciding when and how to finally make them canonically romantic. You make them go through ups and downs throughout the seasons, gradually build their trust and love for each other, increase the intimacy in their scenes, give some hints of possible romantic feelings... Great, you did everything right. But oh shit – now everyone in the audience is kind of expecting them to be together and kiss..And that is not exactly something you want – you want the audience to root for the couple, yes, but at the same time be kind of surprised when it actually happens. A bit like the 2x05 hug...
So what do you do? Yes, you guessed it. After all the build up, you give them some tender touches, heart eyes and emotional talk (4x13) and then BAM, separate them for 6 years, have them not properly talk after that because of all the plot, war and stuff, give them a new gf, child, friends, so they have confliting interests...then give them once again a glimpse of light, hope for a future - the together scene this season - just to completely take it away from them, make them argue, betray each other, leave each other...hit their rock bottom, from which they can’t go up in one episode and certainly not kiss, right? The audience is now in doubts, excellent. (Yes, we expect it all the time, but think more about the general audience)
That leads me to the complaints and dissapointments of many people this season – lack of scenes or lack of emotional scenes where BC talk about their feelings, missing each other etc...I think that is again a good thing.
Once again imagine that you have this great “6 year tragic separation of two soulmates” storyline in your hands with gems like the 2199 calls, Bellamy basically trying his hardest to be a good leader in space for Clarke’s memory - to be the head because of her words... and you want to milk the emotions out of it as much as you can.
Now you can make the guy break, cry and lose it after he leaves his girl and thinks she is dead (something like 4x04 Bellamy learning that Octavia is dead), you can make them fall to their knees and lose it when they meet each other after the years, have them talk all season about them missing each other and not being OK with being separated...OR...
Or you can show some emotions in their scenes but still not fully go there (basically saving most of the “emotional energy” for later use), adding one unresolved/undiscussed thing to another (I left Clarke behind and I...) and another (how did you survive alone? oh you know I was just chilling with Madi, I totally didn’t call you like 5000 times) and another (traitor who you love) and another (you totally poisoned your sister for the greater good, not for me)...until you have a nice collection of angst that is ready to be used in one superpowerful scene that just wouldn’t be as powerful if you have already seen for example B cry 3 other times that he lost C and couldn’t forgive himself for leaving her.
Don’t get me wrong, every scene of Eliza and Bob together is a gift, the emotional ones especially... But if you have angsty talks, kisses, makeout scenes in every second episode, then you start to devalue them. The lack of emotional exchanges between BC this season means that the finale scene will be all the more precious, special and valued. You lose something, you gain something in return. And I am actually glad that the writers did it this way.
BUT THIS IS IT. After you do all these things to the soulmates, there is no going back. This is the climax of the BC story (as in romantic, will they, won’t they). The amount of unresolved things is intentional. There will never be more angst, emotion and tension between them than NOW - you can’t do a 6 years separation every second season (the cryosleep doesn’t count, because they are sleeping...). No, but really. If the writers do not make them romantic NOW, they will miss the best opportunity. They can’t make their confession/kiss more emotional in the future, I have no doubt about that. After they resolve their issues this season and make up (and we know from the leak that they will), even if they have some new problems in the future – it will never feel as dramatic as now.
That is why I think this is our episode.
Ok, so now we have the element of surprise – the audience is frustrated and in doubts, not expecting romance:

+ some end of the world/Eden “WE HAVE TO GO” urgency
Be prepared for the 2x05 UNEXPECTED HUG + HAKELDAMA COMBO scene (sprinkled with the 4x13 tenderness + some other parallels and references...) A scene that will blow our minds no doubt :) (Once again, for those who need to keep their expectations low, please do that)
(yes, this is 50/50 on who she is running to - Madi/Bellamy, maybe even someone else, but we already got a running reunion of Madi and Clarke in 5x05, so that makes me hopeful that this could actually be a 2x05 parallel - I don’t like the radio in her hand, it makes grabbing Bellamy a bit harder, but maybe she will just drop it :D + the radio is a bit of a symbol of the 2199 calls...but yeah, it is just as likely to be some random scene of her running)
And this right here is one of the reasons why I think there will be a kiss. Before the video was leaked, I was thinking there is a chance that they will confess their feelings, but there will still be unresolved issues - B/cho, guilt etc. and in the next season we will be waiting for them to finally kiss with a lot of UST. But in this GIF they seem pretty comfortable with each other, like everything is resolved and I don’t think that would be the case if they hadn’t come to some kind of a decision – let’s say that yes, we have feelings for each other and we want to be finally together no matter what... In which case I think the kiss must have also happened, because it would feel anticlimactic in the next season after that kind of confession/decision. Now I think we will wait the whole S6 for them to bang because Eligius 3 guys hate us and they will kidnap B or whatever :D
Add to all of the above the list of things that were pointing towards romance this season (here are just the top ones) - that just weren’t there in this amount in the previous seasons :
Lindsey saying that either Raven or Bellamy will have 2 romances
Marie saying she knows if Bellarke ends up together but can’t talk about it
Bob and Eliza doing all the promo this year together and all their quotes about “BUT THE ENDING”, best scene in their careers, being proud of it...
+ Jason and people who have seen the episode saying it contains the most emotional scene, their favourite scene in the show - no I don’t think just another emotional scene between BC would cut it

L/xa (another canon love interest) basically comparing her betrayal of C to Clarke’s betrayal of B and telling her that life should be about more than just surviving and love is not weakness - wonder what that could mean? surely that C should go spend some platonic quality time with B and not that she should go kiss him and make some babies
Clarke seeing B/cho kiss TWICE - yeah, once would be enough if it was just “oh, my BFF has a new gf” - and not looking very happy about it
the 2199 calls (and the traitor who you love) being addressed - yeah, I have no idea, how you can turn this into a platonic thing - oh you called me every day? you are such a good friend, sis, bro...
In conclusion: It really doesn’t make sense for them not to become canon in this episode.
This season is our (BC fans) tunnel without the light at the end (or so it seems).... We were supposed to feel frustrated, sad, doubt that anything could happen between BC...
But guess what? Look at the ending! They look like they are literally seeing the light at the end of a tunnel :D And I believe so will we, the years of anticipation will finally be rewarded.
So what do I actually expect? Mosty what everyone else is...
A reunion scene featuring their classic “noone else exists in the universe but you” stares
Probably some scene/s in which they discuss their plan + some comments about what they had done - but nothing too emotional
The big emotional scene that will kill us all - I am sorry, I can’t lose you again, no more separation, I poisoned my sister for you, ...
Some scenes in the ship - going into cryo etc.

And maybe one more where they get out of the ship and see five eyed aliens or whatever the big twist at the end will be :D
Some B/cho closure - because despite Jason saying they are a real thing, they didn’t treat them like that this season - the blurred kiss while C was watching, separation during the whole season - if they wanted at least some people to roor for them, they wouldn’t have separated them for so long, but instead show us some development - they got basically 1 episode, Bellamy ‘s not-so-happy-to-see-you face in the rover – and I just can’t imagine them continuing their relationship in S6

Now watch me be wrong about everything. But who cares?
Enjoy the episode, the amazing chemistry between Eliza and Bob by which we were blessed in our lives, all the angst&making up, emotions, all the other plotlines and characters that you are a fan of...No matter what, we will be OK :)
