Following witchcraft blogs is an absolute roulette wheel on whether you're following a TERF or not and I can't stand how many times it's happened to me. Reblog this if you're a witchcraft blog and aren't a TERF and I'll give you a follow! On this blog we love and respect trans women!
Runes! This was an assignment to create a set of flashcards that would appeal to kids and adults for my Type 1 class. They each have the rune symbol, the name of the rune, the meaning in English, the meaning (roughly translated by google, thanks google) in Norwegian, and a little icon I made. I made the big rune characters, but the display font is Comic Runes by takuminokami on Font Space (thanks internet). The cards are 3 inches by 4.5 inches.
Also please don’t yell at me if the meanings of these are wrong, my research was not particularly scholarly. (Once again, thanks internet :p)
Sweet, what a nifty little guide
This is such a cool idea!
Awesome! Quick question: are runes part of a closed culture?
No, these runes here are the Elder Futhark, used as a writing system in the area that would be Scandinavia/Northern Germanic region. The names are Proto-Germanic reconstructions, so yeah, the culture that used these are very very dead. Similar runes were used by the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings (the Anglo-Saxons added a bunch of runes and the Vikings used less runes and some different ones and this was centuries later).
The reason we know the “meanings” and names of the runes at all is because of a handful of rune poems that were initially used as mnemonic devices to remember them. The actual system of divination and magic via Elder Futhark runes is very modern and goes back to ~the 60s I believe? There’s some archeological evidence that runes may have been used for more than just a writing system, and the Havamal (old important morality poem for heathens) mentions that Odin hung on the world tree and sacrificed himself to himself and returned with knowledge of the runes. It also discusses that runes can be used for magic (though it doesn’t get into which runes or how to do the magic).
So, to me personally, it does seem a bit weird to use the runes as just another divination tool without using them in context of the spiritual/religious paradigm they are connected to, but there are a lot of people that do and seem to have success with it. And I’d be cautious with getting into using them unless you’re willing to suddenly have Northern Germanic gods busting down your door whether you like it or not. Though feeling a pull toward the runes in general may mean they already have you.
Good to know, thank you :)

How to Avenge Yourself with Tarot
My grandma taught me never to draw first blood. But that if a soul hurts me maliciously, the old gods will consider my vengeance an act of self-love.
Step 1: State your case.
In a dim, quiet, private place… shuffle your cards, as you recount to them every detail of how you were cruelly injured. As if writing in a diary, divulge aloud your agony. Let your heart fill with ache. Let your body swell with rage.
Step 2: Choose the punishment.
When your pain and fury are at their peak… find the card in the deck that in your soul you believe to fit the misdeed.
Death: Serious illness
The Devil: Emotional abuse
The Tower: Sweeping chaos
The Moon: Damaging secrets revealed
Five of Wands: Friends turning foes
Seven of Wands: Crippling stress
Nine of Wands: Paranoia
Ten of Wands: Bone fractures
Five of Cups: Bouts of depression
Two of Swords: Significant errors in judgement
Three of Swords: Sudden loss of love
Five of Swords: Defeat in competitions
Eight of Swords: Mental or physical imprisonment
Nine of Swords: Insomnia and anxiety
Ten of Swords: Festering cuts and bruises
Knight of Swords: Physical and verbal abuse
Five of Pentacles: Financial ruin
Step 3: Decide the duration.
Find a second card in your deck. Remember that even the smallest cut left unchecked can lead to death. So unless it is warranted… be fair and be prudent.
Ace of Wands: A few days
Ace of Swords: A week
Ace of Cups: A month
Ace of Pentacles: A year
Step 4: Carry out the sentence.
Hold both cards in your hands, with the punishment on top, and the duration behind it, hidden in the back.
Gaze at the card… and with every fiber of your being, imagine it moving.
If it is the Knight of Swords, watch him gallop on his way to cut your oppressor in half. If it is Death, see your oppressor lying lifeless by the Reaper’s horse. If it is the Ten of Swords, let your oppressor take the place of the corpse in the card. Watch their back ooze with blood from every wound, gash and slash.
Step 5: Let it go.
Your raw vulnerability in admitting your injury has connected you to the higher power you have faith in, be that the Universe or a deity.
They have heard your appeal, which will soon be fulfilled. Offer them your gratitude in advance. Your wounds are now in good hands.
It could take days… weeks… even longer. It will happen once your oppressor believes they have gotten away with bruising you. At that moment, a colossal flame will engulf their contentment. And you will know in your heart that the debt has been collected.

Tarot Spread For The Upcoming Year, Two Ways
First, a simple overview, shown above. Shuffle while concentrating on the upcoming year. If you have a particular type of concern for the days ahead (career, romance, finances, etc), focus on that and ask for guidance. If not, ask for general guidance or predictions and deal as shown. These cards represent:
Overall theme for the year
Message for January
Message for February
Message for March
Message for April
Message for May
Message for June
Message for July
Message for August
Message for September
Message for October
Message for November
Message for December
Read upright/reversed based on their relationship to the center of the wheel; center is the bottom, the rim is the top, so, for instance, card 2 is in a normal orientation, while 5 is on its side with the top to the right.
Alternately, you can take a more comprehensive look at the upcoming year. As above, shuffle and concentrate on the kind of overview that would fill your needs. Last the cards as shown. These cards represent:
A lesson you will bring with your from the past year into the upcoming year (will help you deal with the coming year)
Overall theme for the new year
Overall struggle/adversary for the new year
A lesson you will need to learn in the coming year to prepare your for the following year
Message for January
Message for February
Message for March
Message for April
Message for May
Message for June
Message for July
Message for August
Message for September
Message for October
Message for November
Message for December
Struggle/adversary for January
Struggle/adversary for February
Struggle/adversary for March
Struggle/adversary for April
Struggle/adversary for May
Struggle/adversary for June
Struggle/adversary for July
Struggle/adversary for August
Struggle/adversary for September
Struggle/adversary for October
Struggle/adversary for November
Struggle/adversary for December
Read upright/reversed on the monthly messages as indicated with the first spread. The struggle/adversary cards (3 and 17-28) should be read holistically; the upright or reversed meanings may be most appropriate to be aware of. Use your intuition. Be aware that these cards often have advice for how to deal with that struggle.
The struggle/adversary may be a person, situation, mindset, etc.
I suggest reading each month as a pair (its message and struggle/adversary together). You may find that a month that has a negative message may carry advice on the struggle for how to get through it, for instance. It is surprising how these cards interact sometimes.
This is the spread I used to interview my new deck. I based it off some other writings I’ve seen, so it isn’t the most original, but hopefully still useful. I hope you find it helpful when trying to understand more about a deck’s personality!
1. What’s your main characteristic? This is what is fundamental about your deck, what will always be true about it.
2. What element do you align with? Different decks align with different elements. It breaks down something like this: Major Arcana = spirit (good at spiritual matters and introspection) Wands = fire (potentially “sassy”, good at matters of passion) Swords = air (detached, intellectual, and introspective) Cups = water (good at matters of the heart and being kind) Pentacles/Coins = earth (grounded, contemplative, good at real life stuff) Furthermore, the card you draw might also hint at a characteristic. For ex., the eight of wands would show that your deck is good at future-telling, especially of what your dreams and passions will be
3. How do you see yourself? This is really a personality question. It is less “honest” than the first position, because it is more subjective.
4. How do you see me? This is how the deck currently views you. That is subject to change.
5. How do you view life? This way you can tell if your deck is optimistic, pessimistic, or realistic.
6. What can you teach me? The lessons your deck has to give.
7. What do you find easy? The sorts of questions your deck excels at.
8. What do you struggle with? The sorts of questions your deck finds more difficult to answer.
9. What do I need to know? This could be general, or it could be what you need to know about the deck.
10. What do you want from me? What the deck wants out of your relationship.
11. How can I improve our relationship? What you can do to bond more with your deck.
12. Outcome of our relationship Not so much a fixed outcome as a mutable one, one that shifts with how you approach the deck and use it.
