Three British Girls Looking for Technical Co-Founder (and other updates)
The technology industry moves so quickly if you don't constantly innovate you will get left behind . To stay lean we've decided it's time to innovate and move in another direction here at Newspepper; Our current model of video production and distribution just isn't scalable enough, we want to build a product that will have an impact on millions of people all over the world. Over the years we've had big contracts from some great clients who we've built fantastic relationships with; PayPal, Facebook, The BBC, Channel 4 and the British Parliament. But we recognize the opportunity to build a product that could disrupt the media industry and affect effect millions of people all over the world.
When I started Newspepper in 2008 I wanted to build a citizen journalism site where users could make and upload their own news (hence the name Newspepper, a play on Newspaper Newspepper) I wanted to build a similar version of Current TV or CNN's iReporter, but It was the beginning of the recession and after pitching to investors in London I could not raise funds. Since then the cost of mobile technology innovation has decreased and we now have the business experience necessary to make this a kick-ass product.
We are going back to our roots - we are building a citizen journalism app for mobile. It will be a mobile video sharing platform but focused for professional publishers. Mobile video is a hot space right now, with consumer facing apps like SocialCam exiting for $60 million, Viddy and Vine (just sold to Twitter). Our app will be similar in functionality but we think we have the secret sauce that will make it an attractive proposition for attracting users who want to build their own TV network and brands who want to advertise on mobile.
We recently won 100k angel investment on a TV show The Angel- whilst we are still negotiating the details of the deal we to get started on the product now.
