My interpretation of this scene :) I have a list of about five scenes I wanted to draw from this fic in particular, but I had to draw this one first. The aching of it all, finding comfort in each others’ presences but not quite knowing why. It’s the little things that mean so much to me, and this fic NAILS the small moments and exchanges that compose “love,” innocent and true to its core

I used to think enemies to lovers was my favourite dynamic, but after looking at my ships I can confidently say that friends who have no boundaries, are completely obsessed with each other, are basically already dating, will let the world burn down for the other, and are too clueless to realize they’re in love to actually still just friend because by the time they realized their feelings one of them has moved on/died is my favourite dynamic

the movies tried to make the reveal of newt not being immune more emotional but somehow at the same time i feel like the way it was revealed took away a lot of the weight of newt not being immune that it had in the books... twice.

like, james dashner was actually crazy for deciding to reveal newt not being immune at the very start of TDC and doing so in a way that's so dissmissive and matter of fact it punches the air out of you for a moment. the way it's revealed makes you feel how thomas feels, and that followed by newt's reaction? him telling thomas it doesn't matter because living hasn't been goos lately and thomas describing his smile right after as 'creepy'? it's dreadful.

and then, reading fever code, you already know newt isn't immune, yet the reveal still has that, like, unforgiving uncaring feeling to it, with thomas finding out because as they're being sent to the crank pits, randall says newt can't go because he's not immune. and then thomas looking back at newt all alone while the rest of his friends walk towards a punishment, yet it still feels like newt is the odd one out? it's so so sad. i think it's unfortunate that the movies couldn't evoque in me what these two scenes did.
