They say that the tide began to turn with the liberation of Doma. Whispers followed as Ala Mhigo, too, finally fought its way out of the Empire's grasp. From there, Bozja and many other provinces followed suit. And as the Garlean Empire fell, Nhalmasque -- the very first nation that fell in Garlemald's imperial expansion -- joined them in freedom. Nhalmasque has finally began to rebuild. Nestled in the mountains of central Ilsabard, this small nation began to develop its own identity after over sixty years of subjugation.
WELCOME ONE AND ALL
The newly-elected King Regent seeks to share in the culture (and coin) of other peoples. What better way to do this, than through a masquerade? A Nhalmasquerade, if you will! (Ha…ha…)
While the King Regent intended to only invite other nations' leaders (and members of the Ilsabard Contingent, the Scions, etc.), there may have been a small Moogle-related mix-up along the way, allowing invitations to find their way into the hands of those unaffiliated with the above. Regardless, if you have an invitation: You're in!
Finally, the grand entrance to Castra Arx has opened, signifying the beginning of the masquerade, hosted by King Regent Markos.
Across a stretch of steel and cement bridge decorated in weavework and lights, the fortress awaits. Once you pass through those gates, you are directed to the main ballroom: industrial at its core, with tall cement criss-crossing rafters overhead open to the sky above. Like the rest of Nhalmasque, the ballroom is adorn with color despite the bold stone and brick foundation.
There are seating areas, and endless buffet table, and a stage where musicians perform every other hour.
You are encouraged to dance, socialize, and enjoy your time together. But if you would like to get to know a few prominent faces at the party, read on!
|| These are simple background NPCs that you are free to reference or even control on your behalf for your personal story! Or you can absolutely ignore them. Up to you!
King Regent Markus Ramagi
A Hyur in his late forties, early fifties. While a bit confused as to why non-diplomats have shown up to his event, he is rolling with it and attempting to be as accomodating as possible. He was only elected to lead Nhalmasque two years ago, and truly has the nation's best interests at heart. He was the son of one of the most hardcore Garlean loyalists, who did not take the Empire's fall very well.
Vole Nomina
An adult Roegadyn whose family was conscripted to serve Garlemald generations ago, and stationed with Nhalmasque. She resisted Garlean rule whenever she could and celebrated the loudest when the Empire fell, but is aggravated that the King Regent has invited more outsiders into Nhalmasque as soon as they began to rebuild. She aggressively champions pre-Garlean traditions and may get a bit more aggressive when inebriated.
Lady Romelle
An Elezen in her thirties who is widow of a high-ranking Garlean official. People remain unsure if she us truly on Nhalmasque's side, but her closeness with the King Regent helps shield her from scrutiny. She is a celebrated artist who helped direct the artisans and decor that now adorn the small nation.
Carmelo
A Viera who is the singing talent for the event, whose androgynous charms capture the hearts of those who listen. When they are not on stage, Carmelo mingles with the crowd to keep spirits high, treating the entire affair like a game where the goal is collect hearts (and maybe a few valuables).
You have arrived in Nhalmasque a few days before the masquerade ball begins! What are your thoughts on the small nation? Where will you be staying, and are you traveling with anyone?
The gates to Nhalmasque have begun to welcome in foreigners from all walks of life (despite the original invitations going out to diplomats only) across Etheirys. It is a foreign but charming sight: the imposing towers of cement and stone reaching into the skies of a temperate valley, its once-cold black metal fixtures now painted over in vibrant colors, handwoven banners draped over exposed woodwork, and stained glass in every window.
Vendors line the main road on the way to the capital, eager to sell their wares and share their culture with newcomers. Before the great imposing fortress known as Castra Arx, the road splits around a fountain, leading to residential and business districts.
King Regent Markos has made arrangements so that all of the guests may stay free for the event in local inns (so long as they present their invitation)! If you haven't bought an outfit yet, perhaps you should visit the weavers and tailors in town!
|| The masquerade ball begins on June 1st, but you are welcome to begin writing now. Prompts will go up shortly!! ||

In 1517, 60 years before the events of A Realm Reborn, Nhalmasque was the first nation conquered by the Garlean Empire.
Nestled in the mountains of central Ilsabard, this alpine climate is defined by the elevation at which you stand, with warm valleys and glacier-covered peaks alike. Under Garlemald's influence, the cities within Nhalmasque gave way to towering structures of concrete, metal and glass.
But since the Empire has fallen, its inhabitants have sought to forge a brighter, newer identity: coloring the glass, the stone, the metal and bringing a new breath of life to their nation.
This is specifically a Final Fantasy XIV Roleplaying Community event that runs from May 29 - June 30! Below are the need-to-know details:
While the expectation is that the writer has some knowledge of FFXIV, everyone is invited to participate! This includes Warriors of Light, canon muses, original characters, and any muse with a FFXIV verse!
You do NOT need to sign up, nor is there an activity requirement. All you need to do is use the appropriate tags to join the event (found here).
While the mods will not be policing anyone's posts regarding 'canon', etc. it would be helpful if you kept the SETTING in mind:
■ CHRONOLOGICALLY, this event takes place post-Endwalker and pre-Dawntrail and the ball lasts for a single night. However, there's no restrictions if you haven't made it to that point in the game! Just be wary of spoilers from other participants.
■ Nhalmasque is a real, albeit nondescript location in FFXIV Canon. For the purposes of this event, we are making things up: Nhalmasque as a small city-state with brutualist/soft brutalist architecture, reclaimed by the people's colorful banners, paint, and decor. It is located in the middle of a mountainous region, so imagine its got a climate/environment similar to that of the Swiss Alps!
Standard Roleplay Courtesy Applies: We do not condone bigotry or harrassment of any kind. Always read the rules of those you interact with and maintain the universal standard don't-be-a-dick!
Nhalmasquerade will post prompts throughout the event, including reference images, roleplay memes, and happenings that your muses may choose to engage with! These are all optional and you can answer them at ANY time after they are posted. You are allowed to do whatever you want and most importantly, have FUN!
