i really don't understand how so many ppl in the cql fandom came to the conclusion that wei wuxian is somehow stupid or like... too much of a boisterous loudmouth in tense social situations when throughout the show he is literally masterfully engaging with people. he is just the right amount of polite to people he hates, even when he's pissed off he keeps a lid on it and is tensely cordial until someone else pushes him too far. he elucidates everything with ease.

like, take the banquet post-night hunt on phoenix mountain when he's trying to ask jin zixun, a man he very clearly does not like and a man who just insulted him with extremely damning insults (calling him a demonic cultivator to his face, implying he learned that in the jiang sect, and calling him the son of a servant) hours ago: he doesn't come into the banquet guns blazing (so to speak)---he walks in, goes directly over to jin zixun, and says very politely that he has a question and needs to speak with jin zixun privately. when jin zixun is rude and rebuffs him, it's only then that he goes a step further and asks him if he knows wen ning. it's only after jin zixun is repeatedly rude that wei wuxian airs the entire business with jin zixun's encounter with the wen sect remnants to the room, forcing the jins to acknowledge it. even then, he doesn't result to pointing out the jin sect's desire to be the most powerful in the jianghu until after he is repeatedly rebuffed and told to "calm down" and "it's not that important."

and the thing is is like, wei wuxian is calm! throughout the entire exchange so far! that's the thing i feel like the fandom also misses---wei wuxian's anger runs cold before it runs hot. i made this point in odd geometry (my fic) about wei wuxian in that specific AU, but it's an accurate observation for his canon self as well and I feel like so many people miss this: wei wuxian is stubborn, not hotheaded. like where did so many people go wrong help me 😭
