Do you think most black people go through an Ankh phase? I went through one when I was around 14. It was a time I was unlearning the internalised anti-blackness. I feel like ankhs/hoteps are the first types you see when you want to be proud of your blackness since they tend to shove it in. Maybe it was just the research I done. Has anyone else had this experience?

I had an ankh phase, it’s the extreme counter to bling assimilation. You get so hype at the idea of losing your white supremacist lenses you kinda throw out logic and start being susceptible to all types of dumb shit.

theres this theory called “nigrescence model” which means to “become black” which basically describes the journey from self hatred to acceptance/love of blackness. 

first phase is viewing the world through a white frame, second is your first “encounter”–or, as my afram teacher said, “realizing you’re black” lmao–this is where you “wake up” and are like “hm… something aint right here…”. third (out of five) is called “immersion” and thats the phase where most black ppl have their ankh phase.

basically the “immersion” phase is where you reject all whiteness, join hella clubs, “act” hella black, etc. so itd make sense to be on some ankh shit when that seems like peak blackness
