at a conference I attended recently, a researcher pointed to the difficulty of finding material in archives because so much depends on the metadata and the terminology used to describe things changes over time. "it would be so helpful," the researcher said, "if I typed 'lesbian' into the library of congress database, it would also show me results that were categorised in the 50s, when the materials were interpreted as 'intimate female friendships'"
which is what tag wrangles at Archive Of Our Own do incredibly effectively: searching for "omegaverse" also leads to "alpha/beta/omega dynamics" and "alternate universe: a/b/o" and so on. but ao3 achieves this frankly incredible categorisation and indexing system by the power of countless volunteers putting in hours and hours of unpaid and unthanked free time, and it's completely understandable that most archives do not have that kind of infrastructure, but also how incredible that a fan-run website has better searchability, classification, and accessibility than the library of congress
God imagine if we had Universal Basic Income and so people who have trained in Archival Studies who would be interested in collaborating on a project of that scale could in fact do so instead of having to work jobs that have nothing to do with their skill set or interests in order to pay too much money for too little housing and food.

I think that the cats understand that the laser pointer is a game because when I do something weird with it or ignore one of the cats for too long not making the light go near them they look up at me like what the hell is that about
There are Rules to laser pointer. That being that I move the light near both cats eventually and that the light moves sort of like a real prey creature and doesn’t spazz out all over the place so fast that they can’t chase it.
I break one of these rules and they look up at me like what the fuck is your problem
They also get excited when I pick up the laser pointer which I think indicates to me that they know that they can’t actually catch the red dot
Afterwards I like to throw a large cat toy at them like a stuffed fish or something so they can get their killing and maiming frustrations out if they want. Bread usually kills and maims the fish while Crusty just goes back to doing what he was doing.
i honestly don't really understand why "some people prefer watching gameplay online rather than playing games themselves" is treated as such a taboo when being a spectator is considered a pretty mundane way to engage with most sports, game shows, reality tv or even just like. chess.
A master of stealth and disguise, you make your living infiltrating cities, manors, castles, even camps of vast armies, selling maps and information. But this one, this blasted village, keeps seeing right through you. What's worse is how friendly they are when they catch you.
a lot of Gregory Berrycones in the notes missing the reference to my twelve note magnum opus from several hours prior in which the narrator silently begs an entity that isn't really God for death and the entity says no
the narrator is operating under the constraint that they can only use words "god" has already spoken, "god" is aware of this and says the 'Time flies' sentence on purpose in order to give the narrator the pieces they need to voice their complaint; "god" has constant access to the narrator's thoughts, and answers them as though they're having a conversation between equals, but clearly absolutely dictates the terms under which the narrator can speak. it becomes obvious as the scene continues that the narrator is silently screaming and that the request being denied may be a request for death, but is at minimum a request for some acute suffering to be stopped
this could be an interaction between a normal person and an evil telepath with some mind control ability pretending to be the voice of a benevolent god. or it could work as a demon lord speaking to a soul they've trapped in a mirror and keep at their side. or it could be an actual god trying to calm down their only believer because they're trapped in the same prison. the concept amused me so kindly forgive the ugliness of the execution

Well maybe I don’t WANT to work double as hard as abled people!! Maybe I deserve a BREAK!! Maybe I’ve been working MORE THAN double as hard for MY WHOLE LIFE and it’s led me to immense burnout & caused me to develop several MORE disabilities!! Maybe I should be ACCOMMODATED so I don’t have to KILL MY BODY AND BRAIN over trying to do what abled people can do!! Maybe I DON’T have to work double as hard!! Maybe if there’s the option to let me NOT work double as hard, I should have it, because I’m already working double as hard JUST TO SURVIVE!!
