Her arms stay tight around him for a quick squeeze before she’s settling back onto her heels to fix a smile up in his direction. “Of course I’m surprised! I didn’t expect you to be here! You should have told me!” Her nose crinkled and she shook her head. “Actually, that would have ruined the surprise and this is way better! How are you? I’ve missed you!” 

Nick and Quinn were practically inseparable in high school. They did everything together and he was very protective of his step-sister. That would never change. "I knew you'd prefer this," he laughed. She loved all things spontaneous -- and besides, she was the least likely to be angry at him for showing up in town randomly. "I'm okay, it's a weird adjustment for sure. I missed you too. What have you been up to since I last heard from you?"

daisy studies nick’s features carefully, trying to memorize everything she’d known from so long ago; he’d always been such a strong, familiar figure in her youth, and it was difficult when he left. seeing him back in one piece — or so she hoped — lifted the worry from her shoulders… sort of. ‘ i’ve been great! i mean, it’s me, so let’s take that with a grain of salt, eh? in a very loose sense of the word, i’m doing reasonably well. and i’m talking a lot, which probably makes me look totally and completely sane. you’re probably packing your backs already, aren’t you? one word from ol’ daisy, and she sends ‘em running. ’ clasping a hand over her face, daisy pauses just long enough to silence herself, ‘ i’m sorry, it’s the excitement and the sugar. mostly the excitement. how are you? how long have you been in morris? ’

Nick looked at his old friend; she'd certainly grown up since he last saw her. It was reassuring to see her again... in a way, it reminded him of who he used to be. He felt hopeful that maybe he could be that guy again. He chuckled, "You haven't changed a bit, have you?" Nick smiled, "I'm glad you're doing well. I've been back for about a week. I'm okay, still adjusting, you know?"

Wyn smiled as she looked onto the carnival. “That’s not always a bad thing though.” She nudged him, giving a soft smile. He was different now. He still looked the same, but she could tell there was something inside him, deep inside him, that had changed. What happened to him, she wasn’t entirely sure. But she knew he would tell her if he wanted her to know. She just needed to give him some space. “I don’t know.” She shrugged. “To me, it’s the same old Morris. Except all my friends are taller than before.” She winked at him and chuckled. “Look at you, you definitely did not look like this six years ago.”

He shrugged. Nick still wasn't sure how he felt about being back home. Of course, he was glad to see friends and family, but he was second-guessing his choice. Maybe he should have allowed himself more time to get over everything. Wynter was studying him, no doubt picking up on the fact that something's changed. "I'm glad you're back," he said. Nick laughed at her observation, "Well, boot camp whipped me into shape. It kicked my ass, actually." It was weird, his closest friends lived in Morris, yet they'd all gone off and lived completely separate lives since he'd last seen them.

‘ how am i? ’ once the initial wave of disbelief receded, daisy brightens up completely—- letters and postcards mean little in comparison to actually seeing nick montgomery in person again. ‘ i’m—- i’m sticky from cotton candy and a little wired, but wow, ’ she sizes him up, always the impressively large figure. ‘ i - i can’t believe you’re here! you never mentioned anything, and… i don’t know, i hadn’t heard from you in awhile. i was actually getting a little worried. ’ she didn’t want to linger on the negatives, instead following her instincts and wrapping him into a big hug - well, as big as her lanky arms would allow. ‘ all these reunions are making me dizzy. ’

Nick smiled at her response to his question. It was just like her. He realized, then, how much he'd missed home. His expression darkened at the mention of her not hearing from him -- towards the end of his absence, things at the base started getting crazy, for lack of a better word, and he wasn't able to keep in touch. That was easily the worst time of his life and he regretted not talking to anyone about it, but even if he wanted to, he couldn't. Nick was surprised by her hug, but quickly slid his arms around her petite frame. He felt comfortable for the first time in a long time -- almost normal. Pulling away from the embrace, Nick's hands lingered on hers. "How are you, really?" he pressed. "What have you been up to while I've been gone?"

She stood next to her old friend, taking in the sights and sounds. She looked back at him and shrugged. “New York just wasn’t for me… Morris is where I belong. I decided to move back home.” She smiled, trying to read his face. “What about you? I heard you were gone for some time too… How are you?” She asked, trying to hide her concern, she didn’t want to make him uncomfortable.

Nick forced the thoughts out of his head and focused instead on his old friend standing before him. "It seems like everyone ends up back here, regardless," he said, sensing that she didn't want to talk about New York. He understood perfectly. "I'm okay." That wasn't a lie, but he knew it wasn't the information she wanted. "It seems different here. I don't know if that's me or if the place actually changed. I'm still kind of adjusting to being back."

You know… Daisy and Wynter are two of my best friends. They’re practically family – both great girls. We get along very well. I missed them a lot and I feel a bit guilty for not keeping in touch very well.

obviously, Quinnie is my favorite because she’s my sister. I haven’t been out much since I’ve been back, but I’m excited to see Daisy and Wynter again. I don’t know who else stayed in town, really. I kind of lost touch with a lot of people.

After spending hours and hours, unpacking boxes, Wynter decided to get out of the house and take a walk through the town. Grabbing her camera, she strolled through her old stomping grounds. Following the trail, she walked into the chaotic carnival, snapping pictures of the brightly coloured attractions and children running excitedly to the next ride. She saw a man watching from a distance and readied the camera for another photo. As she looked closer at his face, she realized just who it was. “Nick?” She smiled softly, walking up to the man. “Wow… It’s been awhile.”

Nick couldn't help but think about everything that had happened since the last time he stood here, in Morris. His life had completely changed and so had he. How could he come back here and pretend nothing was different? His thoughts were interrupted by the click of a camera and he turned, abruptly. "Wynter, hey... what are you doing back in town?" For some reason, he felt embarrassed, as if she’d just walked in on his thoughts.

caramel tresses pulled into a messy ponytail and stray wisps framing flushed cheeks bounce along as daisy takes her final opportunity to enjoy the best parts of the carnival. cotton candy melts on her tongue and cheesy ‘80s cover bands swell the fairgrounds with jubilant noise—- it’s only when she spots a starkly familiar frame that her breezy smile falters just the slightest. broad shoulders and a muscular build, she finds his name slipping from her tongue before she can stop herself. ‘ nick? ’ it’s meek and murmured, a far cry from the buoyant cadence, but the shock leaves her slightly stunted. ‘ you’re back? ’

Nick leaned against the gate, watching the carnival activities from the outside. It was overwhelming, so he was glad he had space away from it. A familiar figure came into view and it took him a split second to recognize her as Daisy, his old best friend. "I--yeah," he said, not sure how to explain himself. "Daisy. How are you?"

The wheels of her board clicks along the slats in the pavement as she skates to the carnival. It’s not necessarily her scene but she likes spending all day outside and has her obligations later on for her shift at the petting zoo. So why not turn up at the carnival a few hours early? As it turns out, her promptness pays off as she spots a familiar figure at the entrance to the festivities. “Fuck, Nicky!” she lets out gleefully, abandoning her board so she can run and take a flying leap onto his back. “You didn’t tell me you were coming back this week!” 

Nick immediately recognized the sound of a skateboard. He turns to see his step-sister running towards him. His lips lifted in a smile as she jumped on him -- for a moment, he was taken back to their days in high school. Laughing, Nick embraced his sister. "Hey, Quinny. It was a surprise. Aren't you surprised?"

Archie was late for his final shift, of course. Then again, he’d been up the majority of the night having snuck in to transform the fun house into his very own haunted feature including a variety of real coffins (empty of course) and mannequins wearing some funeral get-up that he had lying around. His parents were going to murder him if they found out, but it was going to be so worth it when he jumped out to scare unsuspecting kids. He was running up to the gates when he heard a voice beside him. Slowing down, he turned his head and raised a brow, “Weird? Nah, this is sick.” The mortician grinned. “I think it’s sweet that they still do community shit, I mean after all the bad stuff that happens in the world, kinda nice that some people still care about each other and want to chip in together for something.”

Nick watched the man in front of him come to a stop with tired eyes. The other was far too energetic at this time of day. He shrugged, "If you're into it, that's cool I guess." His eyes glanced over the carnival once again. "Just seems like a distraction, is all."

Today was Nick’s first good day since he’d returned to Morris. Good day meaning he felt well enough to leave the house and fake a few social interactions for the sake of not becoming a hermit. He hadn’t told anyone he was coming back -- not even his sister -- he’d just rented an apartment and moved in quietly. Nick’s walk slowed as he took in the bright, loud mess before him. “Of course, my first week back and town and there’s a carnival,” he mumbled, mostly to himself. "Why is this town so weird?"

- ̗̀ ( theo james & he/him ) — hey, did i just see ( nicholas montgomery ) walk by? god, they certainly changed. it’s been ( four years ) since i’ve seen them, aren’t they about ( twenty-five ) now? i think they work as a/an ( personal trainer ) now. i remember them being pretty ( successful & kind ), but then again, they were kind of ( protective & headstrong ). remember how everyone called them the ( leader )?

hi friends! it’s Nikki again! I picked up another character and I’d love to plot!!!! while I’m working on getting his bio up, here are some quick facts!

- he grew up in Morris !!

- his family life is a bit of a mess -- his parents divorced when he was ten and it ended in a split custody situation. he stayed with his mother in Morris and his father took his younger sister to Pennsylvania

- his mother remarried later and he gained a step-sister, Quinn. he is very close to both of his sisters and is very protective over both of them. 

- in high school, he was an overachiever. he played varsity basketball and baseball and he was student council president and valedictorian. he got two full-ride scholarships to incredible schools but declined them because he had decided he wanted to join the navy and become a seal. 

- of course, Nick achieved this and after the twenty-four week training period was stationed in Germany as part of the special ops force. he’d grown exceptionally close to the other seals -- they were like a family. 

- he, along with his friends, embarked on many dangerous missions, though it started to bother Nick when he had to kill people. he knew it was for the greater good, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that they were people just like him. 

- Nick and his friends were eventually sent on a mission to an undisclosed location. the plan went terribly wrong (partially due to a mistake on Nick’s part), and half of his team was captured. Nick was furious and demanded they go on a recon mission to regain the others, but his higher-ups vetoed his commands. they said that it was too dangerous and they had to find a better way.

- one by one, the base started receiving videos of the seals being tortured and killed. that’s when Nick began to lose it. he became violent and lashed out at others on his base. they dubbed him “unfit for combat” and sent him home.

- now he’s back in Morris, but he’s noticeably different. the easygoing, happy guy is gone and the shell of a man returned. he has started drinking -- trying anything to forget what he did. he got a job as a personal trainer at a local gym to attempt some sort of normalcy.
