Here’s a not so friendly reminder:
Just because you have received the vaccine does NOT mean you can just do whatever you want now and stop wearing a mask and social distancing. The pandemic is still happening.
If the virus continues to spread, we give it more opportunities to mutate and adapt, which could lead to a variant that’s immune to the vaccine, which would mean everything we’ve been doing would be a waste of time. Until enough people get the vaccine and herd immunity is achieved, keep following the rules, wash your hands, social distance, and wear a mask.
Wish people would actually wear masks. 90% of the guests to my store no longer wear masks. Can’t do anything about these variants if the majority of the population refuse to mask up.
This kind of post borders on misinformation and is honestly the kind of mentality that feeds into anti-vax ideology.
The two major vaccines, Pfizer and Moderna, are over 85% effective against the new delta strain. The few cases of vaccinated individuals becoming critically ill from covid were people who were already immunocompromised to begin with. The surge in covid cases we are seeing is not vaccinated people becoming sick or spreading covid. It’s unvaccinated people catching covid. Unvaccinated people who were already not bothering with masks and social distancing even before a vaccine was available. Blaming the new cases on vaccinated people engaging in what has been literally deemed medically safe behavior is literally the same tactic that abstinence-only sex ed pushers use when they tell teenagers that condoms are 100% ineffective at preventing pregnancy and STIs, leading to more teens taking no steps to protect themselves because they’ve been told the steps available aren’t worth the effort. Or, I don’t know, the rhetoric used by anti-vaxxers to say that you are better off getting measles anyways because the vaccines don’t even keep you safe at all.
If you want to make a difference with your behavior and have already been vaccinated, the single most effective thing you can do is convince the people you know who might be on the fence to get vaccinated as well. Seriously. Studies show that the single biggest factor in overcoming vaccine hesitancy is seeing people who they know getting vaccinated and having getting vaccinated be framed as something they can do to keep their loved ones safe. That’s not going to happen so long as people are going on about how the vaccines are meaningless and even if you get them you have to continue acting as though you haven’t and are still a Typhoid Mary killing everyone you come within six feet of.
It’s anti-vax. It’s anti-science. And it isn’t even going to accomplish the one thing y’all are upset isn’t happening.
okay but the PROBLEM with being like “it’s not vaccinated ppl so vaccinated ppl don’t need masks” is that EVEN IF THAT IS TRUE IN THE US that it’s just a bunch of unvaccinated ppl getting covid etc, if the rest of us are allowed to run around without a mask, the antivaxxers will as well. It’s not like places are asking for a vaccine card, and even if they did they’re not THAT hard to fake.
So vaccinated people not wearing masks means unvaccinated people often won’t wear masks bc most of the unvaccinated people at this point are people who don’t want the vaccine and the more of them who get sick, the more likely it is a) that people who cannot get the vaccine will get covid, and b) that the virus will mutate in a way that the vaccine can’t protect from, and start another wave of cases.
Is it a 100% given? No, it’s not. But we are STILL IN A PANDEMIC, and continuing to wear masks is the safe choice until we’ve hit herd immunity vaccination levels here in the US OR there are no more cases in the US.
The vaccines provide a high degree of protection AND continuing to wear masks is a sensible precaution, both to deny new variants the chance to spread, and because you can’t tell at a glance who is vaccinated
Yep, continuing to wear a mask and distance (even post-vaccine) is the best way to deny newer, more deadly variants. Thus far, the vaccines have been effective against variants but we can’t know for sure if that will always be the case. I am a huge proponent of vaccines, but this is a novel virus that has already undergone several motivations, and despite our best guesses, we can’t actually predict the future. Taking all precautions at once is our best hope.
Oh. I'm stupid. The Tulsa Race Massacre was May 31 and June 1.
So of course everyone is talking about it. It's the memorial weekend of the Tulsa Race Massacre where they burned Black Wallstreet (yes, every time I post about it, I'll reference it to Black Wallstreet, because I think every title about this should reference what this event means. White people were so threatened by Black success, they literally burned it and lynched everyone involved).
Read this article to find out what good documentaries you can watch this weekend. Then like, watch them. Reblog this post telling me what documentaries you plan on watching or something.
The success of HBO's Emmy winner breathed new life into a raft of documentaries on the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, once seen as a risk for bro
"Tulsa: The Fire and the Forgotten," Silvers' project that he developed with veteran Washington Post reporter DeNeen L. Brown and preeminent war crimes investigator Eric Stover. The film will air May 31 on PBS.
"Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre" (History, May 30), a two-hour film directed by Emmy winner Stanley Nelson (whose films include "Freedom Riders") and Marco Williams and executive produced by NBA star Russell Westbrook, among others; "Dreamland: The Burning of Black Wall Street" (CNN, May 31),
the two-part docuseries "The Legacy of Black Wall Street" (premiering June 1 on Discovery+ and OWN).
On June 18, National Geographic will air another project featuring Brown, "Rise Again: Tulsa and the Red Summer."
And we live in 2021. No excuses. Most of these are only 2 hours long. You can record it and watch it in smaller parts if you have no attention span like myself. (Actually smaller parts is easier for me to manage because it gives me time to process it.)

A series of Instagram ads run by Signal got the messaging app booted from the former’s ad platform, according to a blog post Signal published on Tuesday. The ads were meant to show users the bevy of data that Instagram and its parent company Facebook collects on users.
That’s actually a brilliant idea, even from a strict effectiveness standpoint.
Pity they got shut down.
Some examples:
Just goes to show how much data facebook/insta collect about you that gets sent to advertisers. Also facebook responded by effectively saying ‘yes we collect the data but we dont allow advertisers to say that they’re using this data’ after trying to accuse Signal of pulling a ‘PR stunt’. Facebook is so scummy.

I’m going to drink it while I teach, and when your heads are replaced by swirling rainbows, I will cancel the rest of class.” The class ended up being 17 minutes long.
