if you're "resting" but thinking of all the things you have to do, that's not resting, that's rotting. Even if you haven't done anything all day, give yourself some time to rest and truly relax. When you let yourself relax guilt free, you actually regain energy for your responsibilities.

this post has helped me a number of times since I first saw it. I have realized I was rotting instead of resting, and depending on the circumstance, got up to do something, or settled more comfortably to actually rest.

Works of Jackie Reeves as I saw them at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM).

Jackie Reeves is a Canadian-American multidisciplinary artist based in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Her work has ranged from mural-painting to collage, and her frequent themes of focus include memory and transformation. I found myself captivated by how many of her pieces on display at PAAM appeared haunted—and not just her piece explicitly titled Ghostscape—by the memories a place has experienced. A studio with many artists passing through, a pond that remembers every version of you that has swam in it, a country that both shapes and is shaped by a constantly-shifting citizenry. The drafts and sketches that she'll sometimes leave behind in works only add to that feeling for me, that each art piece also contains the memory of its own development, its creation. In an interview with Art Fluent, Reeves' responded to a question on this multi-layered style: "Working in layers is an exercise in mindfulness and non-attachment. The more time I spend on a piece, the more I naturally become attached to it, so I have to remain intentional about not getting too precious. Some pieces come together quickly, while others take years to resolve." I deeply appreciate the experimental nature of her work, including the fact that many of her pieces are painted on non-traditional surfaces, including curtain fabric and Mylar.
