The roads we walked separately were rough & rocky,
Up & down hills, in & out of valleys;
The detours we took were painful & tiring,
But we found our way to the intersection,
Where our paths were brought back together.

With gentle & forgiving hands, the books were torn right in half. They both uttered internal screams loud enough to shake a house as the binding separated from each other. A gaping hole was left where the rest of the book used to be. Tears streamed down her cheeks; anger welled up inside of him. They tried to walk along their dark paths ahead, tripping over things, distracting themselves from the pain & hurt, crawling into holes & climbing out of them again. The paths they took separately were rocky & difficult, their feet blistering & bleeding, their eyes tired & sore. After tasks had been completed & things healed & work done by Him, those loving hands began to glue the bindings of new books together with Grace, Love, Forgiveness, & Restoration. & they popped into the first page of a brand new, crisp, white book together, the pages smelling familiar & comforting, but new at the same time. With His pen on the page, they danced across the pages, their hearts soaring with Joy & thankfulness.

In those subtle smiles
& gentle looks
Your love shines through,
& I can tell that this is You.

The rain fell slightly around us as the music played from the speaker on top of your car.
You spun me around in circles next to the tree we climbed in middle school,
& I couldn’t help but be thankful to see the ghosts of those two people,
Who no longer exist,
Dance along with us, their shadows slightly off from ours in the streetlight.

16 & 17 are reckless, burning like wildfire, loud laughter sometimes sprinkled with angry tears.
20 & 21 are still somewhat reckless, still fiery at times, laughter so loud & smiles so big you end up in pain, but the best part is they’re His.

It’s a funny thing what love can do;
Just like the ocean tide kisses the shore,
It will always come back to you.

The pen dances across the crisp, white page, carefully but smoothly, without hesitation. The hand holding the pen is gentle & loving, kind & merciful, full of grace & constant. The book is new, each page is new, & each one flips once it’s filled with writing, producing a beautiful sound that radiates through the air.

It’s in those quiet moments -
A gentle rustle through the trees, a pen on paper, a sigh, a bird chirping, the gentle shifting of position -
That you stop for a moment,
Breathe in the stillness,
The calmness.
& all storms in your mind cease for a moment.

I’m a little bit scared of heights, you see.
I’ve broken a bone one too many times --
But oh, how beautiful the jump could be.
As I stand at the edge, my heart starts to race;
& I think about what could go wrong, line by line.
Because I’m a little bit scared of heights, you see.
I can see the bottom as the sun hits my face.
The breeze blows through my hair in gusts, keeping time.
& Oh, how beautiful the jump could be.
I begin to let go of the fear as I give myself space.
Backing up from the ledge, the world is frozen in time.
I’m still a little bit scared of heights, you see.
I spring forward and begin to pick up the pace --
Thoughts race through my mind, reminding me of wintertime;
But oh, oh, how beautiful the jump will be.
As my feet leave the ledge, a smile forms on my face;
& the fear inside is thawed by the oncoming springtime.
I’ll always be a little bit scared of heights you see.
But oh, how beautiful the jump could be.

How long must I wage a war
With the tornado in my mind --
Getting sucked in & thrown out
Over & over
Hitting every tree on the way down.
It leaves for a little bit,
& I can finally breathe.
Until it
Snatches me again --
Catching me off guard.
& spins me around in circles
Until I cover my ears & scream
But no noise comes out.

To run through the trees--
Run until my feet are bruised,
Til I can’t feel my legs,
Til the air in my lugs is all but gone.
Run until I don’t see anything familiar,
& all I can hear is my feet landing on the ground.
Run until I can’t hear my thoughts.

Laughter & smiles;
The sound of hoofbeats on the ground;
Feeling them stretch out underneath you, reaching with each stride;
Feeling the adrenaline course through your veins.
There is no better feeling.
April 19, 2016
Swirling --
It’s never ending.
The way words shape & shift around each other like smoke.
Black.
Consuming each corner, pulsing through my head,
Clouding behind my eyes & stopping me in my tracks.
It could not get any louder,
Yet I never say a word.

It’s in the quiet stillness -- the chill in the air, the dew on the gate, the slight rustle through the trees, the occasional bird chirping, a warm muzzle, soft fur, before-breakfast carrot. Silence. Stillness -- That you realize that the most beautiful & perfect things in life are meant to be simple.
April 17, 2016
The simplicity of it all;
This season entering in,
& all the joys that it comes with.

Maybe that’s what love really is;
Watching someone go on a rollercoaster ride,
& come out of the other side bruised & broken.
Seeing all their dirty secrets & flaws laid out on the floor,
Knowing them like the back of your hand,
Yet still looking at them like a starry night sky.
April 14, 2016
My mind is made up of tangled strings;
I cannot seem to find any ends to untangle them.
