Yes, I'm also disappointed with Yona, but I'm not surprised
It's been a while but today I feel particularly inclined to critique, so here my two cents on Akatsuki no Yona. We still don't know the ending, so it might actually resolve in a more satisfying way than expected. It doesn't take away, however, that these entire final arc, since them returning to the castle, has become more and more boring. There are only two chapters left, and there are too many questions and plots that will be simply left unresolved because it's impossible to pull all these string together in just to episodes.
Overall, AnY feel such a waste of a lot of beautiful characters we grew to love so much. We had a lot to hope for: the growth of Yona as a possible ruler/leader who knows the struggle of the people first hand (I actually hoped that she, in a plot twist she would renounce the crown and live with the people, where she actually was at her best - but I digress); the grey morals of Soo Won, from personal revenge to the greater good, dealing with an incurable life-threatening disease (symbol of the mess of mix the divine with the human); the mystery of Hak (does anyone even remember that he was an adopted child with unknown origin and he has supernatural strength?); the short lifespan and horrible life of the three dragons and the unbearable burden of Zeno's immortality; the power of the human medicine and care of Yoon and Lili that can reach even where the Gods cannot.
And then there was the geopolitics of it all: "the domestic politics" of rivalry between the tribes, with different customs and ethics, and "the foreign politics", i.e. the complicated relationships between Kouka and its neighbouring countries. Is war ever justified? The violence, the pain?
So many good plots to investigate. And yet, everything is now in the background, the prophecy conveniently explained to us by a dragon's epiphany, and the divine being the Deus Ex Machina - quite literally.
I'll spare my final assessment for the end, suffice to say that it makes me so sad such a nice complex shojo ending on such a low note, because, in my humble opinion, it's been dragging for too long.
I have been thinking the same for the last couple of years. So much potential and interesting subplots and characters, but since they returned to the castle I feel like the story was getting more and more boring
