💜 What's Your Favorite Character to Write?

One of my favorite characters to write in Chapter 10 was Gazel Dwargo.

Not necessarily King Gazel...

...but Gazel the dwarf.

I kept thinking about what it must have been like from his perspective.

Imagine sitting in your office, reading report after report about a mysterious traveler from the Jura Forest.

First, you learn he healed three of your best craftsmen.

Then you hear he solved a problem that had one of your greatest blacksmiths on the verge of disaster.

Caused a festival, and somehow... despite all of that...gets arrested

Ranmaru didn't even resist arrest!

At that point, I'd imagine Gazel isn't just acting as a king anymore—he's genuinely curious. He wants to see this person with his own eyes.

Writing that shift—from the ruler making political decisions to the dwarf trying to understand the impossible—was one of my favorite parts of the chapter.

Now I'm curious...

Sometimes a simple trip can become... considerably more eventful than anyone expected.

This was honestly one of my favorite chapters to write so far. It's probably the funniest chapter in The Sovereign Comet yet, and I found myself laughing more than once while writing it. I hope you enjoy reading it just as much as I enjoyed bringing it to life.

The messenger swallowed once. "His Majesty," he said. A pause. "...King Gazel Dwargo..." Another pause, longer, as though the words themselves required effort to get out. "...is coming here personally." Silence swallowed the room whole. Gobta's eyes went comically wide. Kaijin was on his feet before he'd consciously decided to stand. Rigur, beside Ranmaru, went very still. Ranmaru simply tilted his head. 'The king,' he said mildly, 'is coming to a storage room.'

🌱 The Heart of Tempest

One of the ideas I wanted to explore in The Sovereign Comet is that medicine shouldn't belong only to the wealthy or the powerful.

In Tempest, healing is treated as a responsibility rather than a commodity. Every remedy represents time, knowledge, and compassion—but also the belief that every life is worth saving.

A nation isn't measured by how many enemies it defeats.

It's measured by how many people make it home.

After months of planning, rewriting, and worldbuilding, Chapter 8 of The Sovereign Comet is finally live on AO3!

This chapter marks one of the biggest turning points in the story so far.

It's the culmination of everything that's been building since Chapter 1—the first major evolution of Tempest, the beginning of its transformation into a true nation, and the moment where many of the ideas that have been living in my project notes for months finally make it onto the page.

One thing I've tried to do with this story is make evolution feel meaningful.

Not just stronger...

Different.

I love thinking about questions like:

🌿 How would a species actually change?

🏡 How would their culture evolve?

🌎 How would they fit into the world's ecosystem?

Those are the kinds of questions that shape almost every chapter I write, and Chapter 8 is where that philosophy really begins to shine.

🍞 Character Spotlight — Gobta

Caption:

Gobta might still be the funniest person in Tempest...

But he's also one of its most dependable.

I wanted his evolution to reflect that.

Rather than becoming the stereotypical handsome elf, Gobta grows into someone who's simply... adorable.

He's the kind of person who accidentally befriends every merchant in town, always knows the best shortcut, and somehow has exactly what everyone needs tucked away in one of his many pockets.

Also...

Yes.

He's absolutely volunteering to visit Dwargon because of the bread.

(Helping the village is a very close second.)

🌱 Character Spotlight — Rigur

Caption:

Rigur has one of my favorite character arcs to write.

He's someone learning how to lead without trying to become someone else.

Rather than living in his brother's shadow, he chooses to honor the future his brother never had the chance to see.

He's curious.

Hardworking.

Always volunteering.

Always learning.

If Rigurd represents Tempest's foundation...

Rigur represents its future.

🌳 Character Spotlight — Rigurd

Caption:

Rigurd has always been one of my favorite leaders in Tensura.

In The Sovereign Comet, his evolution reflects who he already was.

Not a king.

Not a conqueror.

A builder.

A father.

A village elder whose authority comes from years of carrying timber, settling disputes, and making sure everyone made it through another winter.

"A house is not built by strength alone.

It is built by hands that do not give up."

The goblins of Tempest don't simply become "High Elves."

They evolve into a people shaped by the lives they've already lived.

Builders.

Farmers.

Hunters.

Carpenters.

Scouts.

Their strength comes from decades of labor rather than noble bloodlines.

I wanted Tempest's elves to feel like a civilization built by ordinary people who never stopped working for one another.

Their culture is rooted in community, craftsmanship, and living alongside the forest instead of conquering it.

🐺 The Aero Wolves of Tempest

One of my favorite parts of writing The Sovereign Comet has been expanding Tempest's monster ecology.

Rather than simply evolving into stronger wolves, the Dire Wolves become Aero Wolves—a new species adapted to life among the mountains.

They are pack-oriented aerial predators capable of running upon the wind itself, using lightning and coordinated hunting tactics to bring down prey much larger than themselves.

Ranga serves as the first named Aero Wolf and Alpha of the species.

While every Aero Wolf is incredibly fast and intelligent, their greatest strength isn't individual power...

It's trust.

Every hunt is performed as one mind.

Every movement supports another member of the pack.

"One pack. One storm."

One of the biggest changes in Sovereign Comet is that Ranmaru isn't reborn as a slime.

He's reborn as a Celestial Qilin.

That raises an interesting question:

✨ What do you think will happen to the Direwolves?

In canon, the wolves evolved one way.

But this is a world where their future is being shaped by a creature associated with prosperity, guidance, sanctuary, and the stars.

Will their evolution change?

Will their role in the story change?

Will their relationship with Ranmaru be different?

I'd love to hear everyone's theories before the wolves officially arrive.

Cosmic Vortex

One of the most important abilities in Sovereign Comet is Ranmaru Tempest's signature skill:

✨ Cosmic Vortex

Originally born from the foundation of Predator, Cosmic Vortex evolved into something entirely different.

It is not a power of hunger.

It is a power of balance.

A system governing:

⭐ Cosmic Order

⭐ Dimensional Transfer

⭐ Purification

⭐ Universal Recycling

Within Rinmaru exists the Celestial Paradise—an endless cosmic sanctuary of drifting stars, silent nebulae, and distant galaxies.

Cosmic Vortex serves as the gateway between that sanctuary and reality.

⚫ Vortex: Void

The Black Hole.

A collapsing singularity that compresses hostile matter, corrupted magicules, curses, and destructive energy.

Nothing is destroyed.

Everything is:

• Compressed

• Analyzed

• Purified

• Converted

To observers, it appears terrifying.

To Ranmaru, it is restoration through breakdown.

⚪ Vortex: Gateway

The White Hole.

A radiant sphere of silver, jade, and starlight.

Where Void takes inward—

Gateway returns outward.

This form allows:

• Safe transportation

• Dimensional travel

• Material retrieval

• Releasing allies

• Access to the Celestial Paradise

Unlike Void, Gateway feels warm and welcoming.

Stepping through it feels less like entering a portal and more like walking through starlight.

🌙 Recall

For trusted companions, Cosmic Vortex bypasses gravity entirely.

Instead of being consumed by darkness, allies dissolve into rivers of fractured color—violet, sapphire, rose, and pale teal—before safely entering the Celestial Paradise.

This is how companions are welcomed into Ranmaru's inner sanctuary.

A thirty-year-old salaryman who worked too much, slept too little, and somehow still found the energy to smile when a child smiled back.

The little girl is Suki, and beside her is her mother.

On an ordinary evening in the park, their paths crossed with Satoru's for only a few moments.

Some people are remembered for the lives they take.

Others are remembered for the lives they choose to save.
