Really enjoyed The Beverly and Wesley Show. Only criticism is that I wish there was more Beverly and Wesley. That bald guy who kept showing up and interrupting them was super distracting

Watching Star Trek reactions recently from people starting TNG. One reactor on Riker meeting Picard said, “I hope they bond and they’ll be best friends like Kirk and Spock.”
To which I responded, in my brain, “No, reactor, you don’t understand. Kirk is one of the youngest Star Fleet captains in history. He has the power to make the main supporting cast his two boyfriends. Picard is a decade older than his entire bridge crew. His main cast gets to make him their Space Dad. They play poker without him.”

What an honor for @mamuscript to share *my* work when *her* work is genuinely my favorite of all time 🥰🥰🥰
I feel like I keep becoming invested in the wrong parts of star trek. Like what do you mean my favourite part of the next generation (just started s5) has been the criminally under-explored dynamic between Beverly and Wesley Crusher?
YES AGREED!!!
Whatever the ups and downs of Starfleet Academy, I will die on the hill that actually some people needed to see a leader sitting weird in a chair. Our concept of who makes a "good leader" is actually way too skewed towards body language, how people dress, their vocabulary and other things that don't actually affect the quality of their decision-making. In 2026, we put too much emphasis on whether someone "looks like a leader" - polling companies regularly ask this about politicians - and not enough emphasis on what decisions people are making and why. And of course this bias ends up working against marginalised groups, like all biases eventually do. ("Why is she sitting like a little girl?" is something I've heard more than once)
Having a leader who rejects staunch formality is weirdly one of the most progressive things Trek has done in years. Think about how life changing it would be if you didn't have to worry about what impression your stance, your clothes and your appearance were giving off. Imagine people reacting purely to the value of what you are saying and doing, and absolutely nothing else.
YES!!!! THIS EXACTLY!!!!! For the first time ever while watching Trek, I saw a leader that actually reflected me, and it genuinely made me feel so much better and more confident in myself as a leader.
why am i dressed slutty you ask? to read classic literature alone in my room. mind your own business.
THE VERY FIRST STAR TREK SLASH FIC PUBLISHED
“A Fragment out of Time”, published in 1974. Kirk / Spock. page 1 page 2
I had to share it with you because I can’t stop laughing, and every time I reread it it just gets funnier and fUNNIER
This fan fiction is older than the push-through tabs on soda cans.
Your grandma wrote this on her Commodore 64.
I miss my Commodore 64
Oh my dear, sweet children. The Commodore 64 came out in 1982. This was produced on a typewriter and probably mimeographed. And while it may seem funny now, it took more courage to write and distribute this than you will ever know.
Reblogged for that last comment.
respect your elders
Children, in the olden days fanfiction was written on a typewriter, copied and sent by snail mail. Getting one one of those letters from across the world was every bit as exciting as getting a notification that your favorite writer posted a new fic.
It’s been said before, but the fact that this fic begins with the dialogue assertion “We’re by no means setting a precedent” is endlessly amusing to me.
Diane Marchant changed all our lives. May she rest in peace.
The precedent line is especially amusing when you bear in mind that “A Fragment Out of Time” is not only the first Star Trek slashfic to be published in a widely distributed magazine: it’s believed by some to be the first slashfic of any kind to be widely published.
In 1974 it was illegal to send pornography through the USPS. So distributing fic like this via mailed newsletter was literally dangerous. And they knew it.

'Seems like there's a little more to it than that.' - wesley
'Is this your way of asking me if I'm getting romantically involved with him?' - beverly

I know that Wesley's asking about Bev's relationship in a really indirect way, but I love that she's honest and open with him about it

I am a cis man who absolutely knows - not believes, knows! - that trans women are women, trans men are men, and there's not a damned thing transphobes can do about that reality. They're scared of facts in your era and spewing nonsense because of it.
Star Trek TNG (with DS9 sprinkles) incorrect text posts part 8
LOVE THESE SO MUCH
the thing about crusher and picard is like. theres some level of guilt about the attraction between them right. like by the time we're really into the meat of the show i think that guilt is very old and theyve grown past it and they both sort of know their relationship isnt like A Problem, wesley has definitely started to see picard as a sort of father-like figure. and theres more this bond between them about a man they both used to know, her husband and his friend, and i dont think either of them TRULY think itd be disrespectful. but theres just a sort of Something about it, its just a sort of weird scenario, just sort of off enough to resist saying anything out loud for a very very long time. idk
YES! THIS! EXACTLY!
It is crazy how obvious the tension between these two is - especially in season 1
