Skateboard pushes himself to be the best he can be to prove to himself/Windforce that he isn’t a “lost cause.” That he can achieve something and have an impact somewhere in the world and in someone’s life. I’d say his selfless nature stems from this want to see himself as worthwhile and also because he’s a genuinely kindhearted inphernal. He knows what it’s like to be tossed aside and looked down upon and can empathize with the inphernals he offers a hand to.

Branching off of his want to his best self, Skate has a small wall up regarding his past and how he feels about it. His chill demeanor makes it seem like he’s gotten over it, but part of him still can’t get over those events. He shuts down any questions about the subject quickly and plays it off saying he’s “moved on/grown from it.” Getting chucked off a floating island ain’t something you just walk away from all fine and dandy, and Skate knows this, but he doesn’t want to “mope around” about the event when he could be doing something else “better.” (Helping others, hanging out with friends, making himself better, etc)

Skateboard enjoys skateboarding for many reasons, but mostly because it helps clear his mind and “stay in the zone.” It’s a good way to distract himself and focus on just boarding, instead of all the random thoughts floating in his head. That, and it’s relaxing; taking a spin & appreciating what you have as you travel around Craterdust.
