Danny spends most of the trip silent. He’s asleep for some of it, his body going through a lot of energy at the moment even if he wasn’t dealing with the emotional part of everything at the same time. He’s crying or staring out the window the rest of the time, but he apparently left the wracking sobs back in Amity, because now it’s just mute, horrified tears that Vlad finds more worrying than the wracking sobs.
Danny doesn’t ask where they’re going once.

Funniest part of my The Locked Tomb experience was getting to the end of GtN and seeing Gideon's death flags pile up into an undeniable flag-mountain and going "damn. the fanart really hard me thinking Gideon was gonna be a prominent character for the whole series. no she's just the coffee shop au favorite who gets iced in book 1."
To THEN be proven both right and wrong as Gideon bites it only to be tacked up like a wet blanket over the clothesline of the narrative's meanest possible facsimile of undeath. She's hanging out to dry like beef jerky and two subsequent books have not been enough to convince the narrative to let this girl die for real. She goes to bed every night cursing the good luck of Naberius Tern, the guy who got cannibalized to death, which should really tell you a lot about the relative badness of the hand Gideon has been dealt here.
To be compared on the flipside to Harrow, who has maybe technically not even died yet, but whose mind and soul have gotten flayed into a different kind of ground beef every book such that calling her alive starts to feel more like a bad referee call. Looking at her makes you look back over at Gideon and go "well that thing is basically fine. it's literally just got one fence-post hole in it."
Perfection
Only the Dairy King and Maddie have seen him in this state. The King feels sympathy and great guilt towards Vlad. He considers himself the root of his nephew's problem. And yes, he has made many wrong decisions in his life, including towards his nephew. BUT he takes on too much.

Vlad building up a network of ghosts that will later be allies/useful tools in canon timeline, but in the original timeline are just people he's desperately trying to get help from and/or is clinging to
All the canon clockwork episodes, for all that I've struggled to figure out the logistics of masters of all time, are so juicy to me
Danielle!!! A big part of this AU was formed by me going "why on earth would he need clones anyway like why does he need a second danny instead of brainwashing the first one or finding someone else to turn into a protoge" and the angst of the answer being "he can't fuck with canon danny like that without undoing years of hard work but also he's so lonely and he misses his son so much and by the time he's realized he made an actual person it's too late to go back and now he has to figure out what to do with her."
Phantom Planet gets So Interesting as a plot by Vlad to turn Danny into a world-saving hero. While making his parents finally learn his secret and accept him. And also severing literally all ties with the living and finally getting to tell Jack he hates him. But! Also he cannot tell Jack why he hates him. And Jack believes that it's just the accident and dating Maddie.
Post-Phantom Planet drabbles I've half written where Jack and Maddie find Vlad and there is a big giant argument where Vlad lets Stuff slip and they are left to grapple with the idea that there's a world where they ruined their son's life
