I’ve been thinking of that one scene in the PHM movie when Rocky is talking about his mate, Adrian, and he says that the time they spent together was not enough. (Rocky is such the romantic)

Do you think he says the same thing about Grace’s friendship? Especially with the difference between life spans? They have spent years together but it’s not enough.

(I’ve made myself sad. I’m going to go cry now)

I often hear people say that a hero will sacrifice you to save the world

And that a villain will sacrifice the world to save you

I think Eva Stratt became the villain in order to save the world

(I don’t really think she is a villain. But she was too okay with going to prison. And I know she has some negative thoughts about her betraying Dr. Grace. I think she would think of herself as one.)

One thing I keep thinking about while I’ve been rereading Project Hail Mary is the food situation.

By the end of the book, Dr. Grace only has a few months of food left and coma slurry. He only has the coma slurry because his friends died on the way to Tau Ceti.

Dr. Grace and Rocky spent a few weeks together trying to find a way to save their Stars. If Yao and Ilyukhina had lived, they most likely would have starved before the Taumoeba was ready to be sent in the beetles.

If Rocky ever met Stratt

Stratt, on one hour of sleep in the past three days and 37 cups of coffee: Okay thank you, I—one minute—where are we on the research grants?!—ok—you, have you contacted—hold on—no I’m not available right now—NASA where are we with the ship?—good—yes I need all of them here—no, redesign that—I cannot talk to the press right now—hand me those charts—why is the patrova line up 4%?!—and you do not have clearance—no time for that right now—the button is over there—do I look like I have two seconds—one minute everyone I’m getting another effing call—WHAT?!

Grace, on the other line: Carl and I made a baby :D

Dr. Grace was the first person to have made contact with extraterrestrial life. (Thats also why he got to name the Astrophage)

But it also kind of foreshadows Dr. Grace meeting Rocky. He is also the first human to make contact with intelligent extraterrestrial life.

Rocky is canonically super heavy when thinking of Earth’s gravity. He weighs soooo much more on Erid due to the higher gravity.

This means the pebbles are deceptively heavy. I love seeing fan art of Dr. Grace playing with the pebbles, and imagining that he constantly forgets how heavy they are. (The cuteness distracts him)

I was talking to someone about this and they said the pebbles were like the tungsten cube, and I died.

One thing that made me laugh like a million times while reading Project Hail Mary is all the moments where Dr. Grace uses the explanation that he is a science teacher for why he knows a bunch of random information.

Yes he is a science teacher, but that’s just an excuse.

In reality, he is in fact a major nerd.

I can’t stop thinking about Eva Stratt, and her meeting Dr. Grace for the first time.

Like she is tasked in saving humanity. She needs a scientist that can identify the weird black stuff that’s on the sun, so she goes searching for scientists. Many scientists all recommend Dr. Ryland Grace even though they clearly think he is a lunatic.

So Eva Stratt does some research on this name she keeps hearing. She reads some of his papers, one of which is literally cussing out literally everyone while saying that not all life requires water or something ??!!

Then she decides that he is the person she needs. So she does some digging to find him and he is became a middle school teacher??!

And when she meets him, she is probably thinking to herself “wow this is the nerdiest dork I’ve ever seen”

And even if she loves to plan ahead, I don’t think she knew upon that first meeting just how important Dr. Ryland Grace would become to the world and to her.

She probably was also thinking “wow. I guess people do wear science-pun T-shirts unironically. I hope this guy can figure out this weird alien stuff so I can continue my job”

I just finished reading Project Hail Mary like 2 days ago, and I’m obsessed!!! It quickly became one of my new favorite books.

I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s hopeful and filled with love, but it’s bittersweet??!!

Like for instance if Dr. Grace were to ever go back to earth (it would roughly take about 30 years I think?? IDK I’m bad at math) every one he knew would be either dead or close to one hundred. And he was never really close to anyone in the book other than his friend Marissa and Stratt (and things did not end well with Stratt). He only friend and family is Rocky. It’s beautiful and sad at the same time.

He befriended other scientists and some of the back up astronauts, but their relationship wasn’t strong.

The other thing is that Rocky lives way longer than humans, but I don’t like to think about that part.
