can someone please be proud of me like fuck I’m trying
reblog to let prev know you’re proud of them
bastard neither one thing nor the other… bearer of two magics… mountains/six duchies biracial…. I just think it would be thematically dishonest if Fitz WASN’T bisexual
"if i had a time machine i would go back in time and kill hitler"
I would put sea mines around medieval britain. i would give hannibal barca ww2 era heavy artillery and tell him not to stop till he starts seeing gauls. i would give boudica a fucking abrams. i would appear before jesus like an angel and tell him "you gotta stop. not cause theyll kill you, youre fine with that, surprisingly, but because your fanclub is gonna spend about 1500 years making everything worse for everyone, everywhere." I would take a glock back in time and shoot romulus, shoot remus, and shoot that damn dog too just to be safe. i would be on the side of christopher columbus' ship in a scuba suit planting c4 on that bitch like rainbow six siege. i would be waging a one woman campaign of terror across andalusia to prevent the reconquista. i would be getting way out in front of that shit is what im saying,
a phrase that kinda bothers me when talking about women's historical roles in europe is "cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children." you hear it so often, those exact words in the same order even. and once you learn a little more you realize that the massive gaping hole in that list is fiberwork. im not an expert and have no hard numbers, but i wouldnt be surprised if fiberwork took up nearly as much time as the other three tasks combined, so it's not a trivial omission.
it's not a hot take to say that the mass amnesia about fiberwork is linked to the belittlement of women's work in geneal, but i do think there's a special kind of illusion that is cast by "cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children." you hear that and think "well i cook and clean and take care of children (or i know someone who does) and i have a sense of how much work that is" and you know of course that cooking and cleaning were more laborious before modern technology, but still, you have a ballpark estimate you think, when in fact you are drastically underestimating the work load.
i also think that this just micharacterizes the role of women's work in livelihoods? cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children are all sisyphean tasks that have to be repeated the next day. these are important, but not the whole picture. when we include all kinds of fiberwork—and other things, such as making candles or soap—women's work looks much more like manufacturing, a sphere we now associate more with men's work. i feel like women's connection to making and craftsmanship is often elided.
And part of 'cooking' was brewing, pickling, preserving, fermenting..
Also memory-holed is how incredibly time-consuming laundry was and how much of it relied on physical strength.
wishing all outdoor workers, delivery drivers, people who have to walk to work, bus riders, etc a very Don't die in this heat
also I don't think parents "these days" are uniquely terrible, I just think neglect is showing up in new ways as technology progresses. today's ipad kid would've been wandering around in a ditch alone all day and night before. parents not wanting to have to deal with children is not a new phenomenon.
Conservative beauty standards are back with a vengeance which means it's especially important to go out this summer with bellies out and bodies unshaved. Also be unapologetically disabled with mobility aids and wearable medical devices and stim toys and ear defenders and all that stuff. You need it. People need to see it. Everyone needs to be reminded that life is unquestioningly more enjoyable when you're not living inside an arbitrary set of rules created by people who are offended by all the wrong things.
i miss when u didn't see shit unless u were following the right people... hate all this random for you crap
you can make most fandom drama disappear with this one cool trick

I love this 😭
Realm of the Elderlings can't be adapted to tv now because people who haven't read the books will watch Civil Bresinga say "I know what you are" (about the nature of the relationship between two characters that are (as far as he knows) both men) and say that the producers are using memes to try to be modern, and that it feels completely out of place in an older fantasy story. They don't know that that actually happens word for word in a book published in 2003
the trifecta
the way Fitz repeatedly asserted that Buckkeep's atmosphere was a more pleasing and welcoming one once Kettricken was there because the keep had the "touch of a woman again" but never acknowledged the fact that it was first and foremost the touch of a Chyurdan that made it feel so. It was the tapestries woven in the mountain style. The simplicity of Kettricken's designs and their openness. The familiar gardening techniques she employed that he didn't realize were familiar, her natural focus on water and tranquility and light and all the things little Keppet would have absorbed like a plant when he was growing up. The idea that somewhere deep down he recognized and was drawn to all these little aspects of the culture that was denied to him. The way it made Buckkeep feel more like home, even if he was also constantly remarking on how changed the space was, too. Something I ponder and consider sometimes.

You probably can't tell but I tried using a different brush for the rendering and I think I like it!! It gives a very nice painterly texture :D
