ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THIEVES (1991)

With his call to the forest, a figure emerged from behind a tree. Arthur was sure his initial impression was correct, this was not a man who meant harm and it came in verbal confirmation a moment later. No, he did not speak Brythonic but Arthur had long accepted that it would change over time. When he revealed himself properly the old king smiled patiently and a little curiously.

"I am Arthur," he announced comfortably, if he was meeting a living man in the mists then it was surely intended by magics and forces beyond his own comprehension and after a life pulled along by destiny he had learned to just go with it. "Of Camelot," he clarified having never really been one to use his title of King, putting his faith and energy into the teachings of his round table instead, though his knights were long sleeping for the time being.

"And who might it be that I am meeting here tonight?" He invited the stranger to introduce himself. He could see from his clothing that it had been some long years since he'd gone to Avalon. This man seemed a little skittish but courageous or curious in the moment but he supposed he did look very out of place.

The spirit gave no sign of being vengeful or malicious, much to Robin's relief. A small smile played on his face, which, at least to Robin, seemed very kindly. He wasn't entirely sure what he could have done if it turned out he was, save for beating an extremely hasty retreat. He could not dismiss this encounter as some sort of flight of fancy or a kind of vision. The man, impossible as he was, met his gaze and it was just as real as any other person he would encounter.

Arthur. Of Camelot. Robin stared, too stunned to speak or bow or even acknowledge what he had heard. He didn't doubt it for a moment, for what reason would a ghost have to lie? A hundred questions filled his head, but instead of voicing any one of them, he still stared, dumbfounded.

A question was presented to Robin and upon hearing it, he sprung to life. One knee collapsed beneath him in a clumsy bow, hand on chest, head bowed. "Robin Hood- R-Robin of Loxley, your Majesty."

"Even if that risk is death?" Zachary furrows his brows, genuine concern etched across his features. The words are not a challenge, but an honest question—one weighed carefully, not flung recklessly. One thing is certain: he is nothing like his father, who would have spoken of sacrifice with cold certainty. What remains uncertain is whether the other man realises who stands before him at all—that his quiet doubt belongs to a prince.

Robin smiles a little. Death is so easily glorified. It is easier to stomach a young life cut short if one could say it was for honour or a cause worthy enough. Even knowing this, he still view remains steadfast. Perhaps it's the soldier in him, and it is always easier when it's his own life on the line. "Aye. Some things are worth that risk."

── † A brow is perked as she watches the stranger, a spark of curiosity ignited. His clothes told one story and the look in his eyes told another. 'There is always room for his children at the Church,' she assures the man. 'My church is however...' How does she put it? Run down? Desolate? Priscilla was the only one that had shown that church love since the old woman that took care of it died. 'There are better places you could stay... It's a little run down truth be told but you are more than welcome if that does not deter you.' 'It is not far away.' Priscilla motions, turning on heel and beginning her journey back to the church. 'You need not pay for lodging but if you insist of working for your keep I do need help with a few things.' She glances over her shoulder, taking in the mans appearance once more. 'Hard work seems to not shy away from you, yes?' Fingertips fiddle with the flowers in her basket, lips purse thinking about what the church could need help with. There was that hole in the roof that was troubling her the most... Made the nights unbearably cold. Her eyes drifted upwards towards the sun noting it's location in the sky. 'It's still early... When was the last time you had something to eat stranger?' Company wasn't normal for her so cooking wasn't something she bothered with but if he was sticking around perhaps she will go out of her way a little.

Robin smiled, to reassure and in an expression of relief. He would take run down over another night spent out in the open, the air harsh in his lungs, the only roof above his head the leafy boughs of trees. "It does not deter me at all. I thank you, Sister, for your generosity." Of course, he was pretty certain that nuns took a vow of hospitality anyway, but that didn't mean that he couldn't thank her all the same.

Upon her gesture, Robin heaves up the sack containing all his earthly possessions (save for the clothes on his back and the sword on his hip) and follows. "I would gladly help." He smiles at her observation. "No it does not, indeed. I find it good for me." To keep his hands busy, for as long as he can. What labour he didn't enjoy, he thought of as much needed penance.

"Oh, I... Hm... Last night, I believe." He had whittled his meals down to two a day, but he didn't mind too much.
