3 years ago I tried to find a way to manage all the stories I wanted to write at the same time. In a week I had started five new things and I felt overwhelmed. I figured out you can’t really always focus on just one, probably because it’s such a giant project. But this is my technique to actually get some job done:
Have one project that’s your main one, that you want to finish first. Take the one that’s the most advanced or that you like the most. Work on it by any means necessary. Write, listen to music will imagining the scenes, make a list of the tunes that has it’s vibe, draw the characters, really anything you feel like doing. Even if it’s not always writing, it pumps you up and it’s actually helping you create the story in your mind and make it easier to write it down. It comes alive. Obviously you’ll have other stores idea, but you can ether mix it with this one or write the idea down for another time.
Then there’s the second step where you’re fed up. You just can’t continue writing that main story. Ether you’re overwhelmed by it and you just really really want to write something else. That’s ok. You can enter your break period. Write how many other stories you want, or nothing at all if you’re just blank. It’s good to change your head of place and forget for a little wile your main story. You know you’ll come back to it eventually, but for now forget it. Go into other smaller projects or big ones wile remembering they are side ones. Remember that once you’re back on track with your main one and you finish it, you can choose another main project. Or the next time you need a break, you’ll have a lot of choices on other things to do.
Maybe the main project you wanted at first will change for a new one. I wrote a whole book and left it in the dust with my other side ones. I know that when I want to go back at it, obviously there will have a lot of work to do because I was young when I wrote it, but it’s gonna go fast too. It’s not finished, but I managed to create it. My #1 of now is going hella great. I just need to revise it and add new scenes. I just took a big ass break of it and yesterday, wanting to just look at it, read one page and immediately felt I could get back at it now. You can’t control your imagination, believe me I tried. You shouldn’t. Those side project will go slow, but they will advance a little bit too. They ain’t waiting for you with impatience guys. They are sleeping and will wake up when they want to.
