I saw someone post that misogynistic fans likes toph because she hates women as much as they do. And she rejects feminity due to internalised misogyny.
Which is a little wild to me.
I feel like the person who said that doesn't understand the difference between feminity and musculnity, and womanhood and manhood, because these do not equal eachother. Not all women express feminity, and not all men express musculnity, and that doesn't take anything from their identity.
What toph's character is about, that she rejects defining her being a girl from how feminine she is, she wants to be herself without having traditional feminity pushed into her, she doesn't dislike girly things fully, she enjoys dressing up and having a girls day with katara, but she gets tense at times because she fears it's making her walk backwards to who she is and showing her as a weakling, which is a result of the ableism she faced in her home too. She rejects gender roles that are pushed by the society she lives in.
What toph's character is NOT about, is hating women or seeing them as less, she never expressed such thoughts toward any, she never hated suki, and in basing se, a group of girls mocked her first so she responded to them.
Saying that toph clashing with katara is because of her being misogynistic rather than a character clash between the two is like saying katara is ableist because she said "the stars are beautiful tonight, too bad you can't see them, toph" rather than the fact she probably forgot that she's blind like the rest of the gaang do a lot and she was feeling petty at the moment.
Toph loves katara a lot, she clashes with her because katara reminds her of her overbearing mother and she dislikes that at times, while katara have always taken being the most responsible role since she was a kid, due to the trauma she faced, and no one gets to her nerve and gets her out of that role like toph does, she gets to be childish and be rivals with toph. Their relationship had a rough start, but they have a precious friendship that pushes them both forward. Katara is a safe space for toph, no matter how she is, toph knows she isn't seen as weak in katara's eyes, and toph always push and encourages katara.

She was given the moon’s champion. His wish; to return home.
An au where Sokka falls into the spirit world and in order to leave; survive the tests set by the ocean spirit. Once he’s done, Yue returns him to his home with Suki and he’s now forced to pick up the pieces.
ft, special sword that was forged and gifted to Sokka.
Fanfic writers, reblog if you’re okay with people sharing the links to your fics to their friends and/or for fic rec posts without having to ask for your permission first
(I saw a debate about whether or not it was okay for people to share fic links around without asking the authors first, since some authors may not be comfortable with the links to their fics being shared around on twitter or tumblr. so I thought this post could be a blanket permission for authors who were okay with the links to their fics being shared around!)
Toph and Aang on a date at a southern air temple mountain top during sunset.
Notes on the outfits + sketch
I'm experimenting with new clothing design. Aang's outfit is from one of the concept designs for tloa. Their belts are from an hc where they gifted it to each other during their wedding (something from the other air nomad tribe traditions). Their outfits are a mix of each other's culture. Toph is wearing a headband with beaded jewels made by Aang's crafty hand (and with the help of Katara. It’s inspired by other air nomad tribe fashion ).
I had Appa in the original sketch below, but didn't have time to color him :\ Maybe next time buddy.
When Tagah wakes up and introduces everybody: Suki,Sokka,Katara, Zuko, and Toph. After they recount to him how things changed.
All his friends are overjoyed and happy that Aang found another airbender. After Tagah was healed, they start taking down the campsite to head off o n their journey.
"We got everything?" Katara called. Her hair swinging in the breeze and her moon cresent headpiece glinted in the sunlight.
"Just about!" Aang called back while he and Toph gathered the rest of the camping equipment.
"A metal sky bison?" Tagah said in awe, staring wide-eyed at the contraption.
"Pretty much!" Suki giggled at him. "You can ask this guy all but it." Suki gently nudged her Sokka's arm.
"Oh,well,I don't mean to brag." Sokka said coyly, waving the compliment away.
"Buuuuut I did make them with my friend,Sai! Our war balloon designs were basically a prototype. See,it started when me,my little sister, and Aang were kids. We were travelingto the Northern Air Temple-"
Suki rolled her eyes with a smile as her husband recounted the events of how the airship came to be.
"So,what do you think about him?" Aang slung a bag over his shoulder.
"Ya mean after he wasn't started by me?" She half-joked. "Seems alright." She shrugged, putting the folded blankets under her arm.
"I'm glad you think so." Aang said. "But I meant something else. Like, does he smell better than me?" He jested.
"Oh,Spirits. After five years together, don't tell me you're jealous." She teased.
"I don't know. Maybe I should be. Frozen men trapped in ice does seems to be your type." He quipped.
Toph chuckled. "Spirits. Since you're so insecure about it. No. He doesn't smell better than you."
"You better." He bumped his arm with hers.
She raised an eyebrow. "What would you done if I said you didn't?" She challenged, a smile teased at her lips.
"Oh,you know..."He shrugged. "Find a way to leave you stranded out here without anyone noticing."
Toph laughed. The effect of it shot straight into his heart and showed through his smile.
"You're such an asshole." She lightly shoved him and then he swatted her hand away.
On the way towards the airship, laughter was shared between them as they purposely bumped into each other a few times.
-
Katara and Zuko were laughing at what Suki told them about their four-year old niece:
Before they left,Yue II said that her, Sokka, and her two-year old sister, Nanurjuk, were master 'drawers'.
Since Hakoda needed to work twice as hard as them, she vowed to make Hakoda an expert by the time they returned home.
Sokka showed Tagah around the airship, explained the inner workings it, and how their technology made it fly.
Tagah was marveled at the vessel in awe until her caught a glimpse of green in the corner of his eyes.
Aang lead her onboard with his hand on her back.
The earthbender gently tugged on his sleeve, turning her face to the side. He leaned down to place a tender kiss on her cheek.
A flash of surprise crossed his face before he immediately schooled his features.
He's been friendly to all her other friends and Aang absolutelt adores him.
Aang is excited to have a new friend. He can finally have a mentor for him to explore more potential with his bending.
Although, sometimes the hairs on her neck rose as Toph felt him staring at her but Toph tries to keep her unease to herself.
She wanted to chalk it up to it being nothing.
But he's really starting to piss her off. He is willing to talk to everyone but her.
Even if he does,Toph can sense the contempt towards her beneath the lightjabs and supposed jokes.
Perhaps her gut feeling is right about this guy after all.
okkk so I rewatched the atla movie and I hated when Aang yelled at Katara about not understanding, and I will explain why it seems a bit toxic to me and angers me when the writers can't make Aang change...
first of all, Katara actually does understand , Aang was not the only one who had to loose his whole tribe of bending. Katara lost all the southern waterbenders AND her mother as well.
secondly, and Aang wasn't present when airbenders were burnt alive and killed, Katara WATCHED her mother burn alive and she watched as many other waterbenders were taken away. I bet she would actually understand MORE than Aang when u look at it that way.
finally, Bryke or the writers have to seriously stop writing Aang like this, the line "You don't understand." Has come from Aang more than once. . . Fix that I'm betting to say that ZK won't hate Aang as much.
will have to tag this anti Aang but I don't hate him, I just hate this flaw that is repeated by writers and it makes him look so one-sided.
This is actually Aang love. He deserves better. Bryke and their minions can have there sauceless k/a. I dont know them. That’s Bryke’s Aang, not ours. Who’s that woman kissing him? Is that Bryke’s lobotomized Katara? Definitely not our Katara.
