Halfway through a miserable summer at some podunk church camp, a ten-year-old Susie takes refuge in their plaza’s piano. Peeled and sun bleached, it seems no one but her has any interest in the old thing.

Well. No one but her and that scrawny kid in the red-horned headband, who she knows has been sneaking out past curfew to play it.

And who’s that strange man always hovering over them, anyways?

Chapter 6 is out and we’re finally, FINALLY at the damn plaza! It only took 32,000 words to get there. Yippee!!! Definitely a long story, but hopefully also a fun one!

This new chapter is full of all sorta of campy hijinks, chapel struggles, and maybe even a few old friends to jog the memory! Enjoy!

OHH MY GOD I finally updated this thing. This was by FAR the hardest chapter to write! I had a lot of fun, but this chapter is a sort of narrative bridge that I had so, SO much trouble connecting with and directing. I hope you enjoy it, deepest apologies for the mini-hiatus it took to get here. god speed.

I'm super curious amd really want to ask. If it's spoilers or you just don't want to answer let me know :DDD!!!

Will the fic specifically only cover the piano incident and before that? Or will there be more? :0

Tooth and Claw is definitely a slow build, or maybe a barreling descent. My plan is for the main plot to follow the events leading up to the breaking of the piano and ending (perhaps a spoiler 🤔) on that final tragic scene. I *was* thinking about including an epilog of sorts, set back in the game-era, where Susie addresses the various beliefs and habits and fears she picked up from her time at camp/ foster care. Though its possible the ending would be stronger without that tagged on resolution. Ending on a moment the reader already knows is inevitable is rather compelling.

It does have to be said: I'm definitely playing fast and loose with canon material I've got to work with, so lots of extra details have been added to anecdote. That might mean lingering a bit longer in those "untold" parts of Susie's story, especially the "why?" And maybe even touching on the consequences of her act. Part of the joy of posting each chapter as I write it is the ability to edit and workshop certain details and ideas as I go!
