tv show like grey's anatomy except they're veterinarians. all the soap opera drama but there's creatures all over the place. "is that a gerbil on your scrubs or are you just excited to see me" but it's actually the gerbil, he's a patient and we can't be having sex right now.

the characters still wax poetic via voiceover about how the surgery of the day is just like their own tumultuous personal lives but the surgery in question is like. neutering a bunch of kittens.

which is of course exactly like Dr. Riverbeans trying to decide if he wants to be a father. it's such a huge decision, and he just doesn't know what to do! if only someone had made the decision for him by gently anesthetizing him as a child and fucking. cutting his balls off.

little does he know that his girlfriend, hot livestock veterinarian Dr. Josta, is about to get kicked in the head by a horse patient so hard that she's in a coma for months because the actress needs time away to film a supporting role in the new live action polly pocket movie

I want big drama for the humans but I don't want to get super emo with the animals, so this takes place in the most successful veterinary practice and no animals ever actually die during the episodes. we can get silly with it. Dr. Spud has a case with a great dane who swallowed a lit stick of dynamite and we see them later looking like a looney toon post-explosion grinning ear to ear and letting us know the dog was fine

i keep seeing that post about how frustrating the buff guy -> petite girl type genderbending is, and i wanted to add my two cents regarding the addition of ‘just swap pronouns and don’t change the design’ approach because i think these are two sides of the same coin, as they both fail to really delve into what i think is the most interesting aspect of this design exercise.

the reason i find genderbending to be such a fun and interesting challenge is because, if you actually want to be good at it and put thought into it, you have to really consider the character’s canon gender expression and think about what it means to them and how it reflects in their outward appearance and presentation.

is this male character buff because he likes to work out / be strong, or does he aspire to achieve conventional heteronormative male beauty?

is this female character a tomboy because she likes to express herself in a more masculine way, or is she doing it to fight gender norms?

the answers to those questions should produce very different designs!

this website loves to say that gender is a spectrum, but sometimes i genuinely wonder if people actually understand what that means. 

gender expression, much like gender, is also a spectrum, which is why keeping the character exactly the same won’t always work, in the same way that just making the character conventionally attractive won’t always work. but sometimes, a buff dude would actually just be a hot girl. lady bane, however, would 100% look exactly the same.

been (unintentionally) drafted into running a TTRPG campaign based on Resident Evil and I'm really struggling to figure out which system to use for it.

On one hand, the games have so much dumb action hero bullshit in them that I feel like Never Stop Blowing Up would be good for. NSBU is also pretty easy to explain the mechanics of to players who aren't really familiar with other systems and I don't want this campaign to run for a million sessions, so I feel like it could be fun to handle for combat situations.

On the OTHER hand, there's also the horror elements to the game. One of the players suggested using Chronicles of Darkness and I was thinking of maybe running a (slightly hacked) Call of Cthulu. Only problem is that I'm less familiar with these systems and their core rule books are CHONKY, so it might be difficult to get the rules across to the players who aren't familiar with the games already

like yeah I'm aware that our culture would go collectively apeshit over kid NPCs being shot up in GTA. I'm also aware that that very same culture is broadly fine with parents beating their actual real life kids, and that most people, even most people who would never hit their own kids, think other real life kids getting hit is not their business to be enraged about. so maybe like. there's something weird going on there.
