idk why but it suddenly hit me while seeing a lohen amv that he's probably ambidextrous
i remember in my psychology class our professor stated that all left-handed people are ambidextrous/cross-dominant/bilateral to a certain extent due to the world being made for right handed people but i dont think this logic applies to Teyvat as much since i don't recall seeing anything that would suggest this like right-handed desks so that probably wouldn't apply here
meaning that most ambidexterity in genshin would theoretically be natural or learned for non-societal reasons. i dont put it past Lohen to have learned ambidexterity for efficiency hell i had a highschool teacher who taught himself to be left handed for the hell of it but i did want to look into what circumstances lead to him defaulting to what hand
both of his idles lean towards his right hand, although his left hand is somewhat used still. in his book idle, he holds the book with his right hand while tossing bubble gum with his left. in his knife idle, he holds the knife with his right hand and the vial with his left. this idle strikes me as the one that leans the most into right-handedness with how he twists the knife in the vial. he also uses his left hand to hold vials of poison in his teaser twice, once during a flashback scene and when he's in Varka's office. another interesting tidbit is how in his teaser he also holds paper with his right hand, both while the knights are talking about him and when hes shown during his adventurer days.
both his gameplay animations and his comic show that he defaults to his right-hand for wielding his polearm, while most of his content shows him using his knives with his left. he also has a crossbow on his left arm, showing that he's confident in his aim in that arm. his gameplay animations and his comic also show he uses both hands for grabbing the enemy; in his comic he uses his left hand to hold up an opponent, most likely because his right hand is occupied by his polearm, while his ultimate has him grab the camera with his right hand to stab with a knife in his left. he also drags an opponent with his right hand while his left is holding his knife during a scene in his teaser. there is a rare instance of him holding a knife in his right hand during his teaser though, in the beginning when he's cleaning it and then when he's spinning it. later in the same teaser when he's in Varka's office, he plays with the knife with his left hand. it's not deliberately shown, but he is implied to have thrown a knife with his right hand at the beginning of his teaser, because after it lands he holds his right hand to his chest.
his comic shows him emoting with his left hand, when he checks up on a scared recruit.
a very interesting thing i noticed was during the wine scene of his teaser. he hands a mug to someone with his left hand, then he does the toast with them with the mug in his right hand. but right after the toast when we see the knights passing out, he is dumping out the poisoned wine with his left hand which means he transferred it from his right to his left to pour it out.
AAAALL of this to say, i have no idea. im not ambidextrous, im actually left-handed, but i do use my right hand for opening some containers or fiddling with stuff and the like so im not sure how much of his behavior leans left or right. he actually seems to be pretty even, with just preferences for certain activities being done with one hand more than the other. he might just straight up be ambidextrous for all we know. i just thought it was pretty interesting to study his habits
considering posting more about my ocs bc i mainly do fanart and analysis posts but i also dont want my ocs to collect dust
but i also know tumblr is a largely fan content orientated platform so oc interest is generally low
(have i mentioned i love my pookie? i do i adore them i live for them they are the light of my life if yanqing and phainon are sun puppies they are my universe pookie i can still recall the pure excitement of them talking with me about Morrius and then me getting to see their au designs if they told me to jump id ask how high if they told me to run id bolt and keep going until they tell me to stop my pookie is wonderful and im lucky we ever crossed paths)
so ill prob finish my faebunny yuri then see if anyone is interested
(for anyone who wants to check my only recent oc post is Morrius Dosy Spout with the rest of the recents being mentions at best. all my other oc posts are heavily outdated and are either no longer accurate or relevant)
(but feel free to ask me about my ocs i am always ALWAYS happy to yap... most of my current ocs are Honkai: Star Rail or Twisted Wonderland ones but i do have a few Genshin Impact ones in the process of being reworked bc theyre 5 years old)
imma be so real the first thing my eyes narrowed in on for lohen's teaser was his adventurer outfit bc 1. its very obviously not the standard outfit we're used to, 2. hes sitting on top of a guy's ass thank goodness he fell on his stomach and 3. oh wow so he's always had that earring choker corset and thigh strap huh
ok no but srsly i immediately wanted to compare and contrast lohen's adventurer outfit vs the standard one considering yeah our usual playable guild members don't wear the uniform but lohen in the teaser seems to wear part of it and disregard other parts
we can see he's wearing a vest but not THE vest (most obvious difference is how its buttoned). the shirt is different bc it has a collar unlike the uniform. he also has an additional belt/strap across his stomach and the other one is slanted, with a corset. he has long gloves and a strap on the left arm, and is wearing knee-high boots instead of thigh-high ones
this implies that a lot of parts of his current outfit that look like it's part of the standard knight/high-ranked officer uniform can actually be attributed to his own personal style (the thigh strap, boots, corset, & collar). a metaphor for how his own choices blend in with the order of the knights maybe? altho i still am a little sad at how little his actual outfit indicates anything about his character and background besides "KNIGHT", even if i kind of get that he's supposed to be subtle about his unhingedness to subvert expectations (not that those expectations last 1 conversation with him)
anygays we can also tell from this image that even before he received formal combat training with the knights he would go after humans like treasure hoarders. the map makes me wonder if he also enjoyed doing exploration quests, but it could also just be for tracking and locating targets. he seems to have taken the more mercenary type of quests from the Adventurer's Guild which itself isn't surprising, but i do have to wonder how long he worked there for since i dont know if the guild would even have that many combative quests available (i think most of it is simple stuff like deliver this chicken and find my pages??)
considering the knights don't recognize him or knew of his adventurer past until it was brought up by him himself, it could be despite how we'd think he'd be notorious even as an adventurer for his chaos that maybe his reputation was a lot more restricted to within the guild until he joined the knights. or maybe those 3 specifically lived under a rock
Yanqing, Seth Lowell, Nakajima Atsushi, Kimura Kouichi, Hamato Leonardo: sillies doing their best even when they have to deal with shit its ok we can work through this somehow trauma be traumaing but its ok ive dealt with worse probably hahahaohmygoshwhyismylifelikethiswtf
Mordred Pendragon, Lohen, Yuri, Oma Kokichi, Toph Beifong: I CRAVE VIOLENCE TRAUMA IS A BITCH BUT IM THE BIGGER PAIN IN THE ASS IF YOU EVER FEEL SAFE JUST KNOW THAT IM OUT THERE I CAN AND I WILL
Whiteout: pure silly
Shadow the Hedgehog: pure trauma
Plutia/Iris Heart: pure freak
Chara: the 1st two
Lilia Vanrouge & Lloyd Garmadon: the 1st two at different points in time
//Leaks!!! (Lohen's materials, Unreleased Story Quest mentions)
my thoughts on Lohen's ascension materials:
(Part 5/6)
note: just a reminder that this is simply for fun!
₊˚ ✧ ━━━━━━━━━━━━⊱⋆⊰━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✧ ₊˚
thank goodness for dream solvent. just kidding, it's so hard to get dream solvent (unless it's just me).
the fluffy dodoco in the background and the amazing music make up for the hell this trounce domain fight is. although, i will admit i laugh at the king and queen's dynamic.
i lost on the amazing Escoffier so, using Wriothesley for cryo it is! (i've been obsessed with running the nicole, durin, emilie combo with wriothesley in everything- ignore the double pyro)
also don't have much to say about this one, but unpopular opinion: i liked farming this one more than the Natlan dragon...
- Part (5/6) Ascended Sample: Knight (Chess Piece):
Description:
"A rare sample resulting from the alchemical activation of a substance."
"In the esoteric codices, the bronze knight knows not whether its mission is to conquer or to protect. Since its alchemical elevation, it has merely been seeking to discover its purpose. The age of bronze was an age of heroes.."
the Ascended Sample: Knight (which i "lovingly" call a chess piece) is one of Lohen's talent ascension materials.
like a few other materials in this series, this material is quite obvious as to why Lohen uses it: it's a Knight!
Lohen, set to become the next "Benevolent Knight" and Captain of the Knights of Favonius 5th Company, yet almost no one thinks he acts like one. even his story continuously points out that he seems like the least "benevolent" knight ever.
the Ascended Sample: Knight is actually much more similar to this than on the surface level, which is simply the fact that they're both Knights.
in the description, the chess piece "knows not whether its mission is to conquer or to protect." Lohen struggles with the same exact question.
am i to protect? to conquer? what exactly is my purpose?
a bowmaker? an adventurer? perhaps a knight?
none of these options really satisfy him.
one of the major conflicts in Lohen's story quest and character stories is that he mixes up strength, conquering, and protection.
as i've established before, after the kidnapping and surviving the attempt of becoming one of Eroch and Dottore's experiments, he became so obsessed with gaining power so that no one would ever be able to control him again. i like to think that he's more focused on what he can control here, like his technique, or his trap method.
then, comes the battle against Rerir.
the obsession never left. it increases tenfold, he just hides it well. he begins experimenting with dangerous power, attempting to harness that power that could go beyond human limits.
the Ascended Sample: Knight's description mirrors this, i believe.
our lovely chess piece was elevated through alchemy, just how Lohen was tempted by artificially obtained power.
however, after elevation, the knight realized that it no longer knew what it existed for.
Lohen risks going down the same path. he wants strength, and he hates feeling helpless.
but, he starts losing sight of why he wants power in the first place.
the Ascended Sample: Knight's description ends with the line: "The age of bronze was an age of heroes."
...this is where i shamelessly bring back Varka (how many times will this guy be relevant to Lohen's story??)
honorable mentions include Adorno, Adorno, and dare i say, Adorno?
Character Story 3 reveals that a younger Lohen was pretty much obsessed with Varka's "legend" (thanks to Adorno) and wanted to chase that ideal.
Varka is quite literally the guy Lohen wants to become. wait, no. Varka's the guy he wants fighting by his side. no, no, not that either. Lohen wants to prove to Varka he can handle it on his own.
...or so he thinks.
Lohen grew up idolizing his heroes: Adorno... Varka...
but, as he becomes an adult, he's a cynic.
poison, lack of trust, traps, ambushes, infiltration...
the Ascended Sample: Knight symbolizes the old heroic ideals that Lohen could no longer fully believe in.
he wanted to be a "hero", but unfortunately, he thinks that heroes die so instead, he settles for survival. effectiveness.
being "good", doing stuff the "right way", gets you killed.
being passive, like his father, and denying to fight back, cost Lohen his childhood.
he just focuses and focuses and focuses on what he sees. he sees a strong, courageous wolf in Varka. he sees a swift, determined arrow in Adorno. he wants to be just like them.
but, he doesn't realize why they do it.
circling back, the chess piece "knows not whether its mission is to conquer or to protect."
Lohen spends most of his story believing protection and conquering are the same thing. here's the thing, they might go hand-in-hand, but Adorno's lesson teaches him that protection isn't just "strength", isn't just about "winning", it's something else entirely.
Lohen believes that if he kills every threat and wins every battle, that if he becomes strong enough, then surely by then he has protected everyone.
this is why Varka emphasizes that Lohen meets with Adorno. he sees him wavering, already teetering on the edge of morality, and the fight with Rerir did not help matters. Varka had asked Lohen to visit Adorno a while ago, but he knew that Lohen's fear of disappointing Adorno was holding him back.
Adorno's lesson says otherwise, in regards to power and protection. he teaches Lohen to give candy to Mondstadt's children, to help others, to preserve life. he guides Lohen on how to show kindness, just as Adorno had shown Lohen kindness.
the Ascended Sample: Knight never really finds out if power exists to either conquer or protect. however, Lohen's story is about him slowly learning, from those that "guide" the sharpened arrow, that the answer is much more complicated than just a simple word.
even if conquering's the part he's good at, or even if power is what he thinks he needs, protection just might be the next chapter in his story, where he learns that a kind heart could be the missing gambit in his strategy to checkmate his struggles.

thank you for reading!
one more part left!! this has been quite the story, and with each read i feel like i learn a little bit more about Lohen ૮₍ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ₎ა
i hope these thoughts are also as interesting to you as they are to me!
if there are any points i missed, or if there's anything you'd like to contribute, feel free to let me know! mistakes are common and i may not have caught every bit of information, especially with the amount we have.

have a wonderful day/night! drink some water, or apple cider! maybe even the water from cider lake! - wren
censoring in case someone who hasnt seen the preload materials is scrolling by slsjaiwhwj
reading this sipping flavored water then immediately googled if the only variant of this material is the knight piece specifically bc the knight piece is the one with the weirdest movement pattern
in chess, the knight moves in an L shape at different angles. its a weird one. like yeah it can move backwards but also why an L???
then again the knights do be quirky lol
(heres an image to better see, the red squares are where the knight can go)
but its not the only variant theres also the rook and the queen.
the rook moves in a straight line in any direction, while the queen can move in any way and direction.
im not very good at analysis (i havent played chess since 6th grade) but i do notice that the knight is the only one of the 3 pieces that cannot move in a straight way.
the knight must always make a turn to get to its place. it cant just go in a line, which is ironic since as the "sharpened arrowhead" lohen flies towards his target.
could it be a symbol of him changing targets then? or changing methods? constantly? first he leaves home to fight monsters, then he becomes an adventurer, then a knight. he started with an arrowhead, then a bow, and now a polearm knife crossbow whatever secures him his goal
i was about to also dig into the design of the knight piece itself a bit but it seemed less relevant to lohen himself since its a general material. i do want to note that its the only piece represented by an animal (horse) but also armored with a visor and shoulder pads
i then started checking what constellation images have an additional accessory
not BEING an object, or things like clothing, or a background. clear, additional objects in the art. bc Lepus Miles is a rabbit holding a spear and shield
Venti: Carmen Dei (Lyre)
Raiden Shogun: Imperatrix Umbrosa (Sword)
Zhongli: Lapis Dei (Spear)
Traveler: Viator/Viatrix (Sword)
whats interesting here is most all including Lepus Miles weapons. yes, even the lyre venti's lyre is used for his skill its a weapon. whata also interesting is that Lohen is the only one with two: a sword AND a shield. offense AND defense
we mostly see him on the offensive, but rarely on the defensive
why is he so armed that it appears in his constellation? maybe his walls are just that high, the even in a representation he has to be armed to the teeth. the hare sits up straight, as though on standby. the Lepus Miles is the Rabbit Knight, but it can also be read as the Hare Soldier
wait why the fuck am i going over constellation this was about the knight piece wtf happened im sorry for mh mess of a thought process uh so yeah the knight piece in chess moves like a weirdo and thats cool and might say smth about Lohen wow its been an hour cool bye
(it took me a second to figure out how to do this lol)
first off, your mind?? this is amazing! also i tend to drift during my theories too, it's just hard to stay on topic when it comes to Lohen! you explained the board game so well (I learned a bit!) and you bring up some good points that i didn't even notice! enjoy your flavored water and have an awesome day ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡
tyyyyy both for the reblog and the analysis series i love reading them so much it gives so much insight on how much we can dissect a char down to their materials <333
mmm lohen analysis... yummy fuel for my lohen pilled brain
hope you have a good day too :D always nice to learn new things bc of our favorite characters ^w^

wondering if lohen has some form of paranoia partially bc im a little paranoid but also bc of some preload shit so censoring for spoilers
would lohen check a room before he walks in? check multiple times? check the ceiling? check behind him while at the doorway? check around him while by a window?
(i do this sosjwkejkw)
bc itd make sense alongside the fact he has everyone's footsteps memorized. the source of his trauma, the thing that altered the course of his entire life, was famed and trusted investigator Eroch betraying the knights to secretly collaborate with the Fatui by abducting test subjects
bc the people trusted him too much or didnt know him as well as they thought, children were taken from their homes, people (Crepus) was killed, and lives were ruined
so why not thoroughly investigate everyone? why not stalk the powerful Traveler, who is also well trusted with a lot of power and reputation and conveniently keeps arriving in nations to solve their problems? it doesnt hurt to be sure. the more info known the better
why not always know who just walked by? it helps with accurately recounting events, knowing who was where at what time.
hell, Albedo was JUST accused of murder a bit ago. fear of betrayal in the knights hasnt died. the idea of a high ranking official in the order is no longer far fetched
why not be sure? its safer this way
it prevents tragedy from repeating this way
this way where will be no more Lohens
or Theodores
or Dilucs
and of course, this paranoia is capable of as much harm as it is good
Lohen is as capable of helping Mondstadt as he is destroying it

would lohen care about being called a bunny and want the distinction of being a hare or would he be like "yeah sure bunny it is"
bc i have another char i rlly like who turns into a tiger but gets hissy when ppl call him a cat and i wasnt sure if lohen would be irked from being associated with the small cute mostly harmless and weak bunny than the mad hare he is
ive seen fanfic of him both embracing being called bunny and getting fussy over the nickname and i honestly like both and think both are cute and im leaning towards he only accepts being called bunny by ppl he trusts to not say it in any way implying smth about his strength and abilities
but i wanna hear ppls opinions bc i like going through the comments and reblogs and nodding at all of the cool interpretations everyone has of the same character we all love and enjoy it is very fun for me to interact with fellow lohenlings
(adding a poll so ppl too shy to comment/reblog can still leave their opinion i get it dudes me too)
Hare or Whatevs?
he is a HARE tyvm
he doesnt care hes flexible
hes only bnuuy for certain ppl
Other (feel free to comment!)
i just wanna see results dude
