As much as I like the non-binary flag I’d prefer it if people could just remember that the white part of the trans flag represents non-binary people and stop treating people who don’t fit the gender binary as “less tans” than binary trans people

Lots of non-binary people have felt worried about if they’re allowed to call themselves trans, or if they’re “trans enough” to use the trans flag or join in during trans events like trans visibility days without even knowing that the white stripe on the trans flag is for us non-binary/genderqueer/genderfluid/agender/intersex/etc folk. I feel like it is important that the white stripe is recognised because currently so many people who don’t fit the gender binary feel less valid as trans people than binary trans people.

Okay so after some discussion with others, and some embarrassing mistakes, I’ve decided to put up this CORRECTED version of the Galaxian Alignment system.

The reason for the correction was because not only did I get the demi- terms incorrect (and accidentally switched Galaxian with Celestian), but I had misunderstood the original intent of the coined system.

The description for Solarian is “In many cultures and religious systems, the sun is associated with masculinity, and male energy. As a result, a Solar Nonbinary Person, or Solarian, would be someone who has similarities in identity or experience with men. The term functions as a less easily abused form of ‘male aligned.’” 

The point is to give a replacement to ‘female-aligned,’ ‘male-aligned’ and ‘nonbinary-aligned’ statements, but it also has to do with the person’s experience. For example, while I identify as transmasculine, I have both female-aligned and male-aligned experiences in my day to day life, so I could identify as Eclipsian. However, because I’m transmasculine and I do not want to identify with female alignment in any capacity, I identify as Solarian. 

So there’s a number of ways you can use these terms for yourself. You can describe yourself under both your gender identity and your gender experience (which in my case are actually different), or you can go with just the one that best matches your experience or identity. Some even use this to acknowledge that, while they are of a certain identity, they still experience another alignment at the same time. 

It’s completely up to you.

But remember, these are not genders. These are alignment identifiers, minus the ‘male-’ or ‘female-’ or ‘nonbinary-’ spectrum alignment implications. So I’d tack this on my gender as “solarian trans man” if I was describing myself.

Real quick shout out to nonbinary and genderqueer folks who don’t use any type of alignment terminology!

We don’t need to define ourselves as masculine-aligned, feminine-aligned, or even unaligned! We are just who we are and that’s awesome!

So a real big shout out to all us folks out there who don’t use any alignment terminology, some people might try to force it on us, but that’s cause they are ignorant or hateful!

microlabels give people the ability to make themselves more comfortable with a complex and personal part of who they are. microlabels cast light on experiences that could otherwise be ignored. microlabels helps people.

people who cry, “microlabels are hurting real trans/nb people!!!” or, “we need to focus our attention on real trans/nb people! they don’t deserve representation in discussions!” or, “those labels are made up! how could someone ever believe that?? ridiculous!” are wrong. that’s it. they’re wrong. they are:

1. recycling old rhetoric that has been used against them before.

2. ignoring labels that are real, just because they are strange or foreign or they don’t understand them.

3. ignorant and hateful and hypocritical.

Hello everyone! This is resource I wanted to tell you all about! It’s an app called “Voice Pitch Analyzer”. It has you read a passage a full minute, and then tells you if the range may be perceived as more masculine, feminine, or androgynous. (Disclaimer: Obviously peoples voices vary from person to person. There are women with very low voices and men with very high ones. This does not mean they aren’t “real” men and women. This is simply a post for those with voice dysphoria or who would just like to sound more masculine, feminine, or androgynous to those around them). Please don’t be discouraged if you voice does not land in the range you want it to! It takes practice, and practice is just what this app is for. It allows you to practice speaking in the range you want to be percieved as. Admittedly, it can be a little disheartening having to strain my voice just to get in the upper androgynous range, so a major dysphoria trigger warning to anyone considering downloading it, but, with practice I am getting better and able to talk in that low voice for longer periods of time.
