Hi all - if you're looking for the archive of the old wolfstar fanfiction rec blog, head over to @nonsensical-mishmash-main.

@remussiriusetc was my main blog, but I am very uncomfortable following and liking from a Harry Potter URL. I left it alone for a long time because I wanted to preserve it as an archive, but as it's been about 9 years since I regularly posted recs, I decided it was ok to change the name. I created a new sideblog with the same name (yep, this one) for the purpose of redirecting anyone who's still looking at this old blog.

For now, I'm still planning to leave the old posts up, and I'll keep blogging at @nonsensical-mishmash.

URL change! I really didn't want to keep using an HP URL as my main blog - I found I was avoiding interacting with people on here because it looked like I was supporting JKR, and I didn't want a URL I chose in...2014? 2015? to be people's first impression of me. I want to make it clear that I do not support JKR and actively support the trans community, and I stepped away from this blog and this fandom nearly a decade ago.

official notice of inactivity

I haven’t been posting fic recs regularly since 2016, but I want to just make it official: I don’t expect to return to this blog. Two things:

I will be keeping it up to preserve it as an archive! I hope that people will still find it helpful/enjoyable in my absence!

This is my main, but I don’t want to clutter it (see: preserving it as an archive), so I will be posting a chaotic mess of personal and other-fandom stuff on my sideblog, @nonsensical-mishmash - you’re very welcome to follow me there if you’re interested! (Not sure? See here for what to expect)

url change reflects content change! i haven’t been fandom-blogging for a long time, but i do still want a place to put all the posts that make my brain vibrate at the right frequency, so i’m going to repurpose this blog for general personal use!

Apparently 38% of Americans are planning on gathering in groups of more than 10 for Thanksgiving. I’m begging you, please do not do this. The results are going to be brutal. If you can’t convince your family to cancel, please just don’t go yourself. Or at least convince them to have the meal outside, or to make it smaller, or at very very least keep the windows open. This is real bad y’all

My former coworker posted a picture on his Instagram story of him and 19 family members, no social distancing, no masks, just 20 people crammed together. This guy is in school to be a nurse, and it makes me LIVID.

I got COVID in March, and I’m still dealing with the physical repercussions every. single. fucking. day. Right now I’m lying flat on my back but in the next five minutes I’ll have to roll on my side because I can’t breathe in this position. I’m dependent on an inhaler. I had to leave my job. Even small actions wear me out, and my physical stamina and strength is a fraction of what it was before I got sick.

And I’m relatively lucky—I was able to stay at home for the 6ish weeks I was severely ill, I’m alive, and I have no organ damage. But eight and a half months later I’m still very much only operating at a fraction of the level I was before I got sick.

I caught it before there were confirmed cases in my area (March 8th, so about a week before “social distancing” was even a thing, and I either got it while voting or at work), so the one thing I take comfort in is knowing that I didn’t get it because I was dumb or didn’t follow the rules; I just got insanely unlucky.

It’s not worth it. You don’t want to get this. STAY HOME. DON’T LET YOUR GUARD DOWN. DON’T TRUST THAT OTHERS WILL DO THE RIGHT THING. You can do everything right but ultimately our safety lies in the hands of others. Remember:

So stay home and don’t gamble on other people doing the right thing. It might just kill you.

Thank you for this. I think we really don’t talk enough about Long Covid. I’ve heard lots of accounts of it, both from friends and in articles. We need to stop framing it as if the possible outcomes are small chance of death vs large chance of having it and getting better. Rather, soooo many people have what you’re describing.

the holidays are coming up and a lot of americans are used to the family get-togethers that come with this time of year, but like. i’m begging y’all. skip it this year. you don’t need to be sharing food and air around a table with a dozen or more family members, putting yourself and them at risk. don’t bring your kids to family gatherings and put them at risk, too. just don’t go. i know, it’s absolutely more difficult this year after so many months of no contact, but we’ve had three consecutive days in the US of the highest number of new COVID cases reported, and people are still being hospitalized and dying, and if you care, really care, about your families and friends, you gotta see the big picture and understand that one year apart is better than a lifetime with one of them gone forever.

video chat them. bake and cook together virtually. send messages. make phone calls. do whatever you need to do to stay close emotionally and mentally, but physically, stay home.

Defeating an incumbent president is hard. Getting people to participate in politics when it’s just been hopeless chaos and noise for the last four years is hard. Getting out the vote when you can’t campaign door-to-door and relying on a newly widespread voting form across the country instead of in-person voting is hard. Voting when an entire political party in the country has committed themselves to making it difficult or impossible for certain groups to vote is hard. Defeating a president who has an entire propaganda media machine behind him with no obligation to the truth or decency is hard. 

All the caveats apply - it was closer than it should have been, this win is not joe biden’s but the hundreds of thousands of grassroots organizers who worked tirelesly, there is still work to be done on the georgia senate race run offs, joe biden being a democrat doesn’t mean he is perfect nor exempt from criticism, etc etc etc etc. 

But this victory is a BIG FUCKING DEAL. And it’s NOT A GIVEN. People across this country worked very, very, very hard for today. Our problems will not all be fixed tomorrow, or when biden is sworn in in january - but the united states of america is a brighter, safer place today than it was yesterday or the day before. This is a big fucking deal. And we should be allowed to take a moment to BREATHE and experience it.
