D&D changing Jon being jealous of Robb because Jon is just as good or better than Robb to Jon being jealous that Robb was better than him is just another example of why they didn’t understand the material they were failing trying to adapt.

Jon being just as good or better than Robb at something highlights how unfair the society Jon and Robb live in can be.

The only difference between Jon and Robb is that Robb was born to married parents and Jon wasn’t. Despite Jon being just as good as Robb or even better than him Jon will never be able to hold the position that Robb does (or if he does it’s because of extreme circumstances). It’s not about competence it’s about luck. Robb did not earn his title as heir to the North he was born into by pure chance.

It was about the discrimination that Jon faces simply for being ‘born wrong’. It’s not about Jon and Robbs dynamic so much as it’s about the way Jon is unfairly treated by Westeros.

But Dipshit and Dumbass kinda forgot being a bastard was important to Jon’s character and that a huge part of asoiaf is about discrimination and how harmful it is but honestly that’s not surprising considering how time and time again they ignored the messages GRRM was trying to convey in favor of ‘ha ha lets write a story where everyone that tries to make meaningful change ultimately dies and nothing gets better’

I like Catelyn Tully/Stark as a character but I really can't stand the way her fans defend her abuse of a child ( aka Jon Snow).

1. Example no 1:

Implying that Catelyn despite her distaste of Jon let him create strong bonds with his siblings when the actual text suggests otherwise. A very young Robb Stark was parroting his mother, telling his brother Jon that he could never inherit Winterfell when they just played. Catelyn didn't want to let Jon says his goodbyes to Bran, despite knowing that they were close and that had her son been awake, he would have wanted to say goodbye to his older brother. She also adviced Robb not to make Jon his heir because according to her, he could betray Robb like Theon did. She was sabotaging Jon's relationships with his siblings , as much as she could. It's no coincidence that Jon has not a close relationship with the sibling that was closer to Catelyn and more influenced by her ( aka Sansa). Jon and the rest of his siblings had a close bond, despite of Catelyn's efforts, not because she allowed it.

And yes, Cersei treated Robert's children more cruelty. But I didn't know it was a competition. It's really distasteful to say that someone should be glad to be abused bc someone else got it worse. Like imagine saying that Sansa should be grateful to be abused by Lannisters and co. in Kings Landing because Jeyne had it worse being abused by Ramsay. But I guess it's fine to make a joke in this fandom when the abused is a male child.

Example no.2:

Reducing a child's worth to being just a "bastard". I guess since Lady Stark wasn't resenting a true born child and she was resenting only a bastard that makes it okay!

Also, she never hated herself for hating Jon. The closer to regretting her actions are these thoughts:

Catelyn had nothing against this girl, but suddenly she could not help but think of Ned’s bastard on the Wall, and the thought made her angry and guilty, both at once.

But that doesn't stop her from accusing Jon that he'll probably betray Robb two books later:

"Jon would never harm a son of mine."

"No more than Theon Greyjoy would harm Bran or Rickon?"
