If there’s any expression on Khushi’s face that haunts me in this sequence - it’s this one.
She looks disturbingly young and on her face there’s a quiet plea. A plea for him to stop what he’s doing and not go through the marriage.
She still hopes he would listen.
A part of her isn’t completely processing what’s happening.
This silent exchange in the car is both painful and so expressive. Her face is screaming for him to stop, you can literally see a thousand lines running across, fervently whispering him to stop - to not go through this, and you can see the wall Arnav has constructed around him.
They’re both numb to different extents.
You understand her helplessness because physically she also feels weak - she’s aware of how powerful he is and it is nothing for him to drag her up the stairs.
It is so interesting that she doesn’t ever ‘tell’ him to stop - because she has verbally given her word and given into the blackmail. But it’s just her eyes.
You know this sequence was acted so well that I often wish this moment was utilized more on the show. This whole blackmail marriage. The unfair deal. The plea in her eyes, the coldness in his. Perhaps it’s the most well executed track in the show. There’s not a single shot, a single expression that means nothing.
The reason why I find this so critical is because they have a long history of him roughly pulling her out of the car, stranding her, and then re-establishing that he would never do that again.
But right now they’re breaking down everything they thought they had - turning things to the worse, almost irreparable.He’s not stranding her on the road, but he’s rather drowning her in room. She’s hoping he’d read her eyes, for that’s how they almost always communicated their hidden feelings with.
But this time he leaves her with a wall.
These moments break down EVERYTHING Arnav and Khushi had built to come to a level of trust where they could confess their love - and you know it’s going to be even harder for them to come back to that level of trust.
So Khushi’s plea, I believe is the last time Khushi tries to honestly access what she believes are his emotions - she still thinks he is approachable.
And after this moment - Khushi never shows her feelings or request him for anything ever again. She gets honest again when she’s drunk, and when she rescues him from kidnapping, but we really go back to Khushi being completely honest - even in terms of a pained request - is during the consummation.
