Having porn culture normalized in daily society has its impact. Porn normalizes physical abuse during sexual intercourse, not only does this cause more domestic abuse it also means that many sex workers are often physically abused or expected to allow physical abuse as part of their job.

Does anyone else remember 10 years ago when we all knew sex was observed at birth by doctors/midwives, and that was the normal term. But then the trans community decided to co opt ‘assigned at birth’ from the intersex community (in fact they tried to use coercively assigned but got push back) and everyone just went along with it instead of setting boundaries.

What I hate is that the intersex community is easily misunderstood now when they use their own terminology!

The whole point of “assigned male / female at birth” was that it is NOT about anatomy. That’s literally the point. It was a way to talk about their lives and experience. Someone talking about being AFAB didn’t actually tell you ANYTHING about what their body was and is like.

Now using AFAB and AMAB has essentially become a way to avoid saying someone is male or female, but meaning those words. That is what happens when you use the words for everyone, especially people without intersex conditions. If 99% of the time the AMAB person is just male and the AFAB person is just female, they become synonymous in everyone’s mind.
